It was late at night.

A cold hand slid into my pajama top, jolting me awake.

“Who—mmph…” I got one word out before my lips were silenced.

The scent was familiar. The kiss burned, leaving me dazed.

My mouth trailed lower, his hands leaving marks as he roamed over my skin.

“Kyle? You weren’t supposed to be back until the day after tomorrow,” I gasped. I’d booked his return ticket myself.

“You mean so you could mess around with other men while I was gone?” His voice had a sharp edge, like he was scolding me. His teeth nipped at my earlobe.

“I didn’t…”

“Still lying, babe?”

“I swear I didn’t… Ah!” I didn’t get to finish before he claimed me with an overwhelming force.

“Keep your voice down. I don’t care if you scream, but if the old lady next door hears us, that’s on you,” he murmured against my ear, his voice rough and low.

I slapped a hand over my mouth, eyes wide with nervous tension.

As if punishing me, Kyle was relentless that night. He always had a way of making me feel like he’d fucking me and consume me entirely.

I woke up sore but Kyle was already gone the next morning.

I am Angela Wells. I had grown up with my grandmom, just the two of us. When I was eighteen, my grandmom fell gravely ill and needed surgery. The staggering medical costs had forced me into a desperate decision—I’d sold my virgin.

That was how I’d met Kyle. 

He has owned my body.

Four years had passed since then. Our secret transaction has continued.

He’d said he’d let me go when he got bored, but that day never came.

Now, I had graduated college and joined X Corp, working as his personal assistant.

Kyle had been traveling for business lately, so I spent the last two nights at my grandmom’s.

When I got to work, i heard shouting from Kyle’s office.

“This is basic stuff! Fuck off. Don’t bother coming in tomorrow!”

A young man stormed out, his eyes red.

I recognized him. He was one of the new interns. Just last night, the interns had all gone out for barbecue together.

He spotted me and tried to stop my step, concern in his voice. “Angela, don’t go in there. Mr. Alexander’s in a bad mood.”

I balanced a coffee tray in my hands. “It’s fine.”

Four years of dealing with Kyle’s temper meant I knew it well.

I knocked and stepped in, placing the coffee beside Kyle. His dark circles told me he hadn’t slept well.

Walking behind him, I reached out and began massaging his temples. “Why’d you come back early? Wasn’t this supposed to be a slow couple of days?”

Kyle closed his eyes, letting me work, but said nothing.

“Dinner tonight?” I asked softly, watching his chiseled profile.

He didn’t answer immediately. He rarely spoke much, but his presence alone was commanding, as if the world belonged to him.

Today was my twenty-second birthday. It was also the anniversary of the day we’d met. I wanted to spend it with him.

“I’m busy tonight,” he said flatly, shutting down my invitation.

I lowered my gaze, hiding my disappointment behind a small smile. “Alright.”

Kyle suddenly opened his eyes, the sharp coldness in them freezing me in place.

“What’s with that smile? Happy I won’t be around tonight? Gonna run off with some other guy?”

“There’s no other guy.”

“That intern.”

“We just had dinner with some coworkers last night. That’s all.”

“He likes you.”

I blinked, startled by his accusation. Kyle must’ve been overthinking it. We were just colleagues.

“That’s not true,” she said firmly.

“Fuck off,” he snapped, his irritation evident.

Back at my desk, I overheard whispers nearby.

“Half an hour in there again. What do you think they’re up to this time?”

“What else? Sleeping her way to the top. How else does someone from a no-name college get into X Corp unless Mr. Alexander handpicked her?”

I knew what they said about me. Two months on the job, and I’d heard plenty already. I had studied fashion design. Now I worked in the secretarial department, a role Kyle had forced on me. But I don’t care that. It’s my existence.

After work, my best friend Vivian invited me out for dinner.

“It’s your birthday,” Vivian said. She’d even reserved a table at an upscale restaurant to celebrate.

But I hadn’t expected to run into Kyle there.

He wasn’t alone. Beside him sat his mother and a well-dressed woman with flawless makeup.

Kyle’s mother beamed. “I’ve known Lydia since she was a little girl. Once you two get engaged and give me a grandchild, I can finally relax.”

I stood frozen in the distance, the words hitting me like a bucket of cold water.

Kyle was getting engaged!
