My three brothers and cousin stood by my side in the beautiful, concealed Southside chapel Sarah and I had personally picked out as our wedding venue. I couldn't count the number of Sarah's bosom friends that were seated in front of me, all of them chatting in low tones, and looking around conspiratorially.

Their invites merely stated that they were jointly invited by the Williams and Delmontes, but no wedding was mentioned. We did it that way to ensure that our special day couldn't be swamped by the paparazzi, but it had currently worked in our favour in more ways than one and I couldn't be more relieved.

I was meant to announce what we were gathered here for the moment I took my place at the altar, but how could I do that when I had no idea on who the bride would be?

“Maybe this is truly for the best,” Frod said, and Emerson nodded in agreement.

“Sarah might still change her mind. She might still make it,” I said, but they all looked at me as if I'd lost my mind.

“Heartiest congratulations to you, Sir,” one of the guys working at the supplement department in Delmonte Magazine said as he extended his hand for a handshake. I took it, wracking my brain as I tried to place the name. Hunter, I think? “When Estel and I got the invite, we instantly guessed it'd be something like this, but for some reason we felt it'll be Sarah and you. I always thought you two were seeing each other secretly or something, but it all makes sense now. You were simply being a gentleman. Creating a strong bond with your future sister-in-law.”My heart clenched painfully at the thought of Sarah being my sister-in-law. He was right, that was exactly what she was now. I exhaled, forcing a smile on my face. Elena tensed up beside me. I shrugged as I said, “The Williams and the Delmontes have always been more than just business associates. We're much closer than that.” I had nothing else to say to him.He nodded in agreement, his gaze moving over to Elena, and I cringed inwar

“Rule number three, when you're together, you must share a bed. There will be no separate rooms, or lives.”“Four. You're not allowed to see anyone else while married. You two must be faithful to each other. If either of you cheat, mistake or not, you two would lose everything. The empire, and your parents' stakes, do you hear? We take our family values pretty serious in this family. Our bond is at the core of everything we do, and your family? It starts with you two. With trust, love, and devotion.”Elena nodded slowly, uncertainty wafting off her. Surely she didn't think I'd allow her fuck around while she bore my last name? I clenched my jaw and looked away. Everything about this marriage was mentally draining.“The fifth and final rule you two must abide by is, you must be open to the possibility of finally falling in love with each other. I know you're still hanging on to past feelings, but I believe if you two spend quality time together and give yourselves a honest chance, your

“We should probably talk more about this,” I said after a few minutes had passed. “About us. What do you think?”She bit down hard on her bottom lip, her spine straightening, her body rigid. “I think that's a good idea. We should.”“I know this isn't what you wanted, Elena, and honestly, I didn't think it would come down to this. I didn't want it to. I want you to know that in this marriage, I don't expect anything from you. You heard Grandma. All she wants from us is to give this a honest chance, and I believe we can make that work. Judging from our performance today, I'm confident and happy that we're such great actors.”“Great actors?” she repeated, her brows drawn together, her gaze roaming over my face. “What are you driving at with this?”I exhaled, tugging my bowtie loose and unbuttoned the first button on my shirt. “We did agree to faking our romance in the public eye, didn't we? We have to make her believe we're trying, even when we know we're not. So long as she thinks we're

Richard did most of the talking as he gave a tour of his living quarters. I was in awe at how big, spacious and beautiful it all was. Until today, I'd only ever seen his living room and kitchen. His quarters were similar to Talia's in size, but while Talia's was pink, glitzy and glamorous, Richard's was black, cold and basic. Perfectly all-man.I could see my sister's strong influence all over the place, and it felt awkward. She sure did have the entire place in the palm of her hands, given the decorations and setting of things. It made it even more obvious that everything here was meant to be hers. Her territory, and I was only encroaching in it. I supposed, in many ways, everything was still hers. Richard was still hers, not mine. Her books took up most of the shelves in his study. Huge, brown books of health, celebrity magazines, cooking recipes and the likes. He had her pictures on the wall in every room. The love he had for her was choking, and painfully evident in every nook and

The knocking started by five AM on the dot. No more, no less.I sat up in bed and blinked, disoriented. My gaze fell to Richard who lay beside me, and the events of the previous day flooded my mind. Never in a million years did I imagine us in this position...side by side, waking up together and married. The knocking stopped for a moment, then started up again — this time louder and more insistent. I pushed the sheets down to my waist, letting it bunch around it. “Richard, do you hear that? Wake up.”“Hmm,” he mumbled, blinking heavily as he turned towards me. He sighed as his eyes fluttered open. “Elena,” he whispered sleepily. His eyes leisurely roamed over the red lace nightie I was wearing, lingering on my breasts for a minute. I was awake till twelve, waiting for him, but he didn't come up until I'd dozed off. I wasn't sure he'd be next to me this morning at all. If he'd spent the night on the sofa, I wouldn't be surprised at all. It wasn't easy having me on his bed, when it was

“Where do I stand in all of these?” Sarah asked, wiping her wet eyes clean. She sniffled. “Where does this leave us? You're willing to throw away all we've built for the past five years? That's insane.”Richard looked at me, but I was at a loss for words too. If anything, I was anticipating his answer as much as Sarah was. He was the man after all. He was the main character in this.“I'm sorry, Sarah. You know the type of man I am. You know how I feel about marriage. You made the decision to walk away from this. You didn't even consider my feelings. There is... There is nothing I can do to help you. You said we were over.”“I know, my love. I wasn't thinking clearly. I was stupid,” she let out a breath, her eyes on the floor. For a brief moment, I let myself soak up her words. I believed that she was truly remorseful. But when she lifted her face and shot Richard a wicked, scary smile, I knew I was wrong.“You two only have to stay married for five years, isn't that so?”Richard blink

I exhaled quietly as I straightened my tie in front of the huge dressing mirror, feeling an onslaught of mixed emotions. I had another wet dream about Elena last night again, and it really messed my head up. Usually, I'd just shove it down to the bottom of my mind and remind myself that I couldn't control myself while subconscious, but I hadn't been able to get it out of my head all day, and I was feeling so fucking terrible. And this morning, when Sarah came barging in, I felt even worse. She had been the only woman I'd gone down with for the longest time. The only woman I'd ever loved, and now I was married to her sister, instead of her. It felt like I'd betrayed her in the worst way possible, and the last thing I should be doing was lusting over Elena too. It was a fucking nightmare. Within the span of a week, my life was upheaved in the worst way possible.Where did I ever go wrong?“Going somewhere?”I froze at the sound of Elena's voice, and looked up, meeting her green, steely

Elena's hurtful look was all I could think about as I made my way to the restaurant where Sarah and I had planned to meet. She looked so helpless — pained. We were only married for a day, and I was already hurting her in more ways than one. What the hell was wrong with me?I had no idea what to make of it. The concept of her and me. I was scared. I didn't know what the future had in store for us, but I was starting to wonder what the next five years would look like for the two of us. I thought she'd want to keep her distance, that she'd want to push me to Sarah, but the way she just touched me — her heartwarming possessiveness — it was beautiful in a way I didn't expect. It made me feel things I'd never felt before.“Richard! Over here, love!”I ran a hand through my hair and exhaled as Sarah rushed toward me the moment I stepped into the private restaurant she'd arranged for us to have lunch together. She wrapped her arms around my neck and rose gently to her tippy toes, her lips bru

I slipped into my wife's dressing room and leaned back against the wall, taking a moment to just watch her. Her makeup artist was putting the final touches on her, and she looked fucking magnificent. Tonight, her long hair was loose and wild, spread all over her body, accentuating the blazing-white gown she was wearing. It was the same gown I watched her draw on Sarah's birthday. Seeing it on her tonight was surreal. Her creativity knew no bounds, and I couldn't be more proud of her.Her eyes lit up when she saw me, and I pushed off the wall. I grinned when she dismissed everyone in her room, no doubt reading the look in my eyes.“Richy," she said, smiling. I would never tire of the way she said my name. On her lips, it was simultaneously a prayer and a sin."Baby," I whispered. "You look far too fucking beautiful in this. I can't take this. I can already imagine what all your pervs will have to say about the photos of this book launch." She chuckled. “It's the last one, my love," she

My heart was pounding wildly as I led Elena to the helicopter that was waiting for us. I had negotiated more multi-million dollar deals than I could count, and never before have I felt fear like I felt today.“Are you okay?" she asked as I buckled her in. “You're so quiet."I nodded, unable to suppress my nerves as I sat down next to her."Where are we going?" Elena asked through the headphones.I beamed at her. “You'll see.”I held her hand tightly as we flied toward the cabin where our story started. I knew that there was no point in pondering on what-ifs, but lately I couldn't help but wish things had played out differently. What if I'd drank a little less and actually remembered my night with Elena? Would we have been happily married years ago? We'd have made so many more memories together, and we'd both have saved each other from so much pain."Wow!" Elena pointed out the window, a huge smile on her face when she saw the hundreds of flowers spread across the lawn...She was so rid

I walked through the home Richard and I built, my heart heavy. There was no trace of Sarah left, our cleaners ensured it. Yet I could still feel her here. I wondered if the scars she left would ever fade.I was trembling as I sat down on the sofa, still reeling from the news that was released about her. Countless affairs, and irrefutable proof that the child she was carrying was not Richard's.Climbing her way to the top like that...I never would have expected that. I couldn't wrap my mind around it. It was like I never really knew her at all, and it made me feel even worse for sacrificing so much for her.I felt like an idiot, and I was ashamed of my subservience. I catered to her all our lives, feeling guilty for having had the childhood she'd always wanted, when it was obvious that she lacked for nothing. She'd always had this way of making me feel inferior, and if not for Richard, I never would've been able to untangle myself from her web. My heart felt heavy as I walked into the house I arranged for Sarah. I wished it hadn't come to this, because despite the rift between them, I knew Elena still loved Sarah. I wished I didn't stand at the center of their fallout. All I wanted to bring my wife was happiness, not torment. I knew Elena. I knew she was still hoping that Sarah would change, but the bitter truth was that she wouldn't."Richard," she called, smiling. That intimate and smug smile of hers irritated me a great deal. I may have been able to dispel many of the rumors she circulated, but I wasn't able to get rid of them entirely."Congratulations, " I said. "The doctor told me you're in the clear, and the baby is doing well. Looks like a change of scenery is exactly what you needed."She nodded. “Yeah. I love this place. It's much better than your place. We'll have to renovate that. It isn't child-friendly, and I hate the interior."I nodded as I sat down on the sofa, opposite her. “Yeah, we're not doing that. Elen

I watched as Alanna joked around with Talia and Felicia, my heart full. Emerson, Ford, Brock, Talia and Felicia have been staying here with me, much to Alanna's delight and Silas's annoyance.Felicia and Talia have been taking turns sleeping next to me, ensuring I didn't get caught in a downward spiral caused by social media. Though truth be told, there wasn't much being shared anymore. Richard's plea worked, and people massively took down their posts. It sparked discussions about cyber bullying and the mental health of celebrities, but while that topic was on people's minds, so were we."Elena," Alanna called.I walked up to her, and she frowned as she pulled their security feed up on the TV. It showed Richard walking into the building, and my eyes widened.Silas groaned and gritted his teeth. "Well, well, well. If it isn't my least favorite Delmonte."Alanna and I stared at him wide-eyed as he called up the police and requested that Ares be taken off their property. He turned to me

I was absentminded as I took a bite of the breakfast Alanna made for me. I tried not to, but I ended up scrolling through my social media feeds all night, and I found nothing but hatred directed at me. Despite Richard's best attempts, screenshots of deleted content were making their rounds across all channels. We've made it into every single gossip magazine, and they were all scrambling to create timelines of Richard and Sarah's relationship. It came to no surprise to me when The Herald reported on Sarah's pregnancy, which only villainized me further. Now I was not just the woman standing in between two childhood sweethearts, I was also the evil stepmother-to-be.Watching my love for Richard being turned into a spectacle for everyone to witness was one of the hardest things I'd ever had to do. Photos I couldn't recall taking were being posted online, showcasing how we used to look at each other when Sarah and Richard were still dating. The media had everyone convinced that I'd been se

My heart felt heavy as the driver that picked me up parked in a large elevator. It started to rise, until the car was parked in the corner of my friends' living room. The passenger door opened, and my friend Alanna offered me her hand. Her arms instantly wrapped around me, enveloping me in a tight hug, and that one small human gesture was more than enough to make me fall apart. I burst into tears, loud, heart wrenching sobs escaping my throat as she led me to the sofa. “I didn't know where else to g-go,” I said to her.Alanna and I have been best friends ever since she walked into my boutique in search of a wedding gown. No one has ever understood our friendship, but it was one of the most genuine and closest I've got. It isn't as simple as suing just one single magazine, and even if we do, it's too late!"I walked into our wardrobe and yanked my clothes off the hangers, my movements erratic."Elena," Richard called in panic, his voice breaking. I wished I had the energy to keep up the facade, but I didn't. After what Richard told me last night, I could barely stand to look at her.
