Evelyn

I flipped the pancake on the plate and pour some hot coffee into two mugs.I usually don't stay at home but today Bobby told me to take a leave from the work since I was not feeling well from last night due to the sudden drop in the temperature.

I kept the plates and coffee mugs on the table and waited for my mother to join me.My Dad and siblings were gone in the early morning.So it was only me and Mama.

"Smelling delicious."Mom eyed the pancakes sitting on the chair .

"I hope it will taste delicious too."I dug the fork in the soft pancake.

"It is yummy my baby is improving in her cooking skill."Mom moaned taking a bite of her pancake.

"I have never been bad in cooking either."I laughed sipping my coffee.She is master to me when it comes to cooking and I can never beat her in that.

"So what plans do you have for today?"She looked at me.I could tell by her expressions that she wanted me to help her in doing laundry or cleaning the kitchen .

"Nothing specific well,"I paused and took the last sip of my coffee,"Xian and Amal asked me to join them for lunch."I told her about my best friends' plan.

"Ohh okay then."She didn't say anything further and resumed her eating.

"But I can assist you if you need my help."I said and saw her face brightened up.

"I love you so much honey you just save me."She gave me her broadest smile.

Before I could reply to her,the buzzing sound of my phone gained both our attention.The call was from a private number.I frowned for a moment pondering over the caller as none of my familiar people use a private number.

"Evy."Mom eyed me to take the call.

With confusion written on my forehead,I picked up the call.

"Hello am I talking to Miss Evelyn Collins?"I heard a female voice in a professional manner.

"Yes."The only word escaped from my mouth .I mentally slapped myself for the stupidity.

"Miss Collins I am Bianca Newman,the head of the marketing department of  Black Co.I want to inform you that the interviews are scheduled for the post you have applied will start from sharp twelve in the afternoon today.So please arrive at our office before eleven thirty with your resume,valid id and other important documents."She said in a flow in her same tone which she used before.

My eyes were about to come out of their sockets on what I heard.The Black Company accepted my application.I literally gave up all hopes to get approached by them and the interview was on the same day.

"Hello Miss are you still on line?"The lady's voice brought me back in reality.

"Umm yeah okay I will reach there on time."I replied in a composed tone as much as I could to avoid making fool of myself.

"Okay I hope you'll make it on time."She said briefly.

"Thank you Ma'am."I said .

"You're welcome Miss Collins,"She cut the call.I jumped on my place like a monkey.I couldn't believe on my luck.

"Evy easy don't tell me your name got selected in a lucky draw and you claimed the jackpot of 10 million pounds."Mom joked on my reaction.

"It is not less than a jackpot Mama."I gave her a victorious smile.She narrowed her eyes at me with puzzled look.I walked closer to her and held her hands.

"Mama my application has been accepted by the Black Group of Companies and they called me for an interview in this afternoon.

Her eyes went to the size of saucers .She flinched her hands back from my grip.

"DID YOU JUST SAY BLACK CO.?"She closed her mouth with her palms.

Yess Mumma."I gave a small nod.

"Oh my god! Evy I am so happy for you finally my baby  is getting what she deserves but still they are Blacks".She was not able to digest the news.

"I will give my 1000% Mumma.I hope

this time,we won't get disappointed."I said fiddling with my fingers.

"When is the interview?"She asked thus my skin hairs jolted up realising that I was wasting my time.

"Holy sh*t.I have to run now.I must reach there at eleven thirty and it's almost ten."I yelped running towards my room ignoring her advise to calm myself down.

I rummaged through the piles of clothes to find a simple and sober pair of dress in which I could look presentable for the most important interview of my life.

It didn't take me long to change into a grey knee length skirt and pink shirt.I tied my hairs into a high ponytail and

put on my heels.

Quickly I grabbed my purse which had my phone,id and other important documents and rushed down to the street bidding a bye to Mom.

Luckily I got a cab after waiting for five minutes.The cab driver dropped me on the address in time.

"Do you work here?"He gave me a surprised look when I handed him the fair.

"No I am here for an interview."I smiled.

"Ohh!Then best of luck Miss."He said and drove away.

I turned my head to the building and my jaw touched the ground when the skyscraper came into view.It was a multi storey building.The walls were made of glass which were shinning majestically in the daylight.

I showed my id to the security guard and they allowed me to enter inside.The interior was also something that I couldn't take my eyes off from the luxurious black and white marbles.The employees seemed busy in their respective work snd didn't bother to notice a person .

I reached upto the reception where a beautiful lady in her twenties was typing something on the computer.

"Umm hello I am Evelyn Collins.I have an appointment for the post of marketing manager."I said to her.

First step towards my new life.
