Caroline’s POV:

As soon as the question left my lips, Sophia froze like a statue. Tension visibly rippled through her body, but within seconds, she forced it all down.

“Of course,” she said simply, as though her sudden appearance wasn’t strange in the slightest. She snapped her arm to gesture at the nanny. “Sandra informed me of what was going on. I’m George’s mother, so of course I should know if my own son was poisoned!”

She spun on her heel to face William, fake sorrow bubbling in her voice. “William, honey, I know there are some misunderstandings between us—”
