TWO DAYS LATER
Coming down to the class areas of the best private school in LA - Royal High Academy, Jessica thought there was nothing to be nervous about but standing in front of the class, her palm suddenly became sweaty and her tongue went dry.
This was her first day in the school after she almost lost her job and definitely, she was bound to get nervous.
"These are just teenagers!" She alleviated herself before finding the courage to go in.
"Good day class!" She greeted as she stood on the podium and almost all the 20 students dropped whatever they were doing to reply to her except one who pretended to be sleeping as soon as she entered the class.
"Good Day ma and welcome to our grade." They chorused.
Jessica took her time to introduce herself to them before allowing the students to introduce themselves one after the other until she got to the last student who was still resting his head on his desk.
Jessica walked towards him and fondled his fluffy dark golden brown hair slightly in an attempt to wake him up.
"Wakey wakey, young man!" Jessica joked. "Don't you think it's too early to be sleeping in class?" She asked nicely, causing the other students to giggle and even make side talks.
To her surprise, the boy stood up and packed his bag ready to leave the class but Jessica was on his way and he needed her to move.
"Move out of my way!" He said in between his teeth.
One look at his troubled eyes and Jessica knew she had seen this kid somewhere before.
"This is just 10 am, you must really want to go home and continue this sleep but it's not yet closing hours." Jessica joked and the whole class made an uproar of laughter, annoying the student even more. He tried to force his way out of the class but Jessica held his arm and pulled him back.
"Cade Westham." She read out from the name tag on his uniform. "Have we met before?" She asked expectantly and she finally evoked some response from him after a mischievous chuckle.
"How can you forget me after taking his number from me? If you are this forgetful you won't do well as a teacher, you'd be better off as a whore chasing after married men since you'd have to forget their faces the next day." He replied, intentionally provoking Jessica for making fun of him all this while.
Jessica felt her heart boiling with wrath and her face contorted with rage on hearing Cade's statement.
Immediately she recognized him. This was the same emerald green-eyed kid he met on the elevator of the school's admin block during her meeting with the school's board of directors and when she tried to talk to him, he got angry, told her to stop pretending, and gave her a number which she still can't figure out the owner or the reason why he gave her the number.
She felt highly insulted and at this point, she definitely couldn't keep her anger in check as she raised her hand in anger to give to slap him but her hand got stuck behind her ear as a stocky man in a suit grabbed it before it could get to Cade's face.
"And you are?" Jessica asked, looking at the Pure Ivory-skinned man in a dark blue tuxedo holding her hand.
"The school…"
"You're the school management who is going to take my job away from me?" Jessica asked angrily, interrupting him.
The man smiled, patting his golden blond hair briefly, "No...just a guardian!" He replied.
"Oh! You're his brother? Or Father? I must say you're doing a bad job raising such a nasty and disrespectful asshole…"
"Not everyone deserves respect," Cade mumbled, audible enough for Jessica and The man you here.
"Shut the f*ck up, Cade. You know I only stopped her from hitting you because she can lose her job as a result. I'm not like that useless brother of yours who has pampered you. I will slap that stupidity out of you." The man scolded and Cade knew he meant his words.
Jessica swallowed hard and shut her eyes briefly, 'Jessica calm down! Remember you're still on probation here. This spoiled little brat will make you lose your job if you don't calm down!' She soothed herself before opening her eyes again.
"I'm...I'm sorry if I was rude, but it's so hard keeping my cool sometimes." Jessica apologized to the man.
"I understand but you will have to try harder if you want to keep your job." He advised rolling his eyes over to a CCTV camera which Jessica didn't even notice was there.
"Physical violence is highly frowned upon and you have to mind your language as a teacher. You can punish him instead." He added with a smile on his face.
"Thanks for the heads-up," Jessica replied, trying her best to fake a grin.
"You must be a new staff member here!" He guessed.
"Yeah! This is my first class with them and this…" She paused to sigh and roll her eyes at Cade who was still standing, "...gave me such a memorable welcome." She completed.
"I apologize on his behalf. Nice to meet you. I'm Klaus Wright, Karen's elder brother and you're?" Klaus asked.
Jessica was at loss for words as she remembered Mr. Wright, "You are, Mr. Wright?" Jessica asked, pointing her fingers upward.
"Yes…" Klaus replied, looking up to see what she was pointing at, then Jessica quickly dropped her hand.
"I...I'm sorry about that. I mean, Mr. Wright of Wright's Group?" She asked, referring to a multimillion group of companies.
"Yeah, that's right. It's like you're not from around here. What's your name?" He asked again.
"Oh, sorry about that. I'm Vegas. I mean Jessica Vegas." She replied placing her hand on her forehead before briefly splaying it over one of her eyes.
Leah was definitely right. First, it was her Idol Elizabeth Warren, now it's Klaus Wright. She will really get to see lots of celebrities while teaching.
"I'm from around here, it's just that I don't keep tabs on celebrities except for my favorite ones, but by the mention of their names, I am quick to realize who they are." She explained briefly.
"I'm obviously not amongst your favorites." He joked and they both laughed at it.
"I've wasted enough of your time and that of the students. I will take my leave now. See you around." He waved at Jessica and bowed respectfully to the students before leaving.
Jessica turns back to look at Cade who has remained mute after getting scolded by Mr. Wright.
"Get The F-- Get Out Of My Class!" She scolded and Cade left with so much pleasure.
"I apologize for the time wasted because of that rude boy. So shall we begin?" She asked and was happy to receive a cheerful reply from the students.
A WEEK LATER Jessica stormed the 12th grader class in a Straight at the bodice, dark blue denim mini dress with a collared neckline, three-quarter length sleeve, and an a-line hem for added movement. Then she topped it up with sleek sneakers and a white round channel bag, her long caramel hair packed in a neat high bun. "Mr. Cade Westham. Get out of my class!" She affirmed as she dropped her laptop on the podium and connected it to the whiteboard projector. All through the week, she never allowed Cade to be in her class either willingly or not. "You can't just keep sending me out of the class just because I decided to skip it once. I paid for this and you can't deprive me of this privilege." Cade retorted as he stood up to his feet. "You paid for it, right? Report it to your parents or the school management. But until then, GET THE F-- GET OUT OF MY CLASS!" She yelled and Cade had no other choice than to stomp out of the class and head to the admin's office. Jessica continued h
"Oh welcome, Mr. Westham! How are you doing?" Mr. Logan, the school proprietor, greeted with a broad grin as he stood up from his seat and walked towards the couch arranged circularly just in front of his desk. "I'm very good and you?" Cruz asked, as he also walked in and had a handshake with the proprietor. Jessica was embarrassed by her reaction but thanks to the pleasantries the men were exchanging, she quickly returned to her seat, her eyes staring down at her sneakers. Mr. Logan offered Cruz and Cade a seat across Jessica while he sat on the singular couch relaxing on his desk. "Miss Vegas, we meet yet again," Cruz said but Jessica just sighed and looked sideways, her hands resting on the sides of the couch. "So, Miss Vegas, I hear you're having some problems with Cade here, can you tell us about that?" Mr. Logan requested, gesturing toward Jessica. Jessica immediately sat up and removed her hands from the couch, fixing her gaze on Mr. Logan, "I don't have any problem w
The crowd slowly dispersed as soon as the ambulance left with Cade and Cruz and soon, Jessica was alone sitting on the ground. "This is all my fault! I shouldn't have been so harsh!" She kept mumbling to herself as she bit her lower lip. She stared blankly at the ground forgetting that she was in the school area until a young lady in a red mini gown and a black ankle strap pump walked towards her and bent down to tap her shoulder, her long black hair sweeping Jessica's face briefly. Jessica panicked upon her touch as she was tugged back to reality. "Miss Vegas, are you alright?" Miss Willow asked as she helped her to her feet. "I-I...I'm fine." Jessica stuttered. "Is this your first time witnessing an accident?" She wondered but Jessica was too shocked to speak as she just kept staring into space. Mr. Willow is a Chemistry teacher for the 12th graders and she shares the same office with her so she helped her to their office and her desk. "What is wrong with her?" Miss Cale
Two other nurses pushed a new stretcher toward Cruz and he was immediately laid on it. They knew well that Cruz would never agree to stay out of the operation room even though he was already practically losing his mind so they had to take extreme measures. "Take him upstairs, and place a few securities there until we are done here." Mrs. Robertinstructed and the nurse did as instructed before she also entered the Operation room. Some nurses prepared the main VIP operation room on the third floor. Soon a few notable surgeons at the hospital surrounded the operation room and each taking turns to be the first and second surgery assistants for the operating surgeon. A few hours to midnight and Cruz woke up to find himself laying on a medium-sized hospital bed in the VIP ward. "Cade!" He called out as he jumped up from the bed and walked toward him Just when he attempted to open the door, Mrs. Robertpushed the door open first. "Where is Cade? Did you already perform the surgery?
"What is wrong with you now?" Leah asked worriedly as she hurried into the room and met Jessica holding the wooden chair beside the table for support. Jessica was lost in thought for a while. "What if something bad really happens to him? How will I ever be able to forgive myself?" She thought aloud, her head dropped down in guilt. "Jessica! You think too much! Westham Pharmaceutical is the best hospital in LA with great doctors like Cruz himself. Cade will be fine. The best you can do is pray for him." Leah advised, removing Jessica's hands from the table and holding them. Jessica slowly raised her head and her teary eyes met Leah's worried ones. Leah raised her hand and wiped off her tears, "Let's join, Tyler now or he will be worried. " She suggested, gesturing to the door and Jessica sluggishly dragged her feet out. Even though Jessica tried to take her mind off him for a moment, it was just so impossible, and immediately after she had noticed Tyler and Leah were done wi
Even though Cruz was laughing, his eyes and body language say otherwise and this scared the hell out of Jessica making her hesitate in grabbing his hands. "Come on!" He smiled, gesturing for her to grasp it. With much difficulty and hesitance, she slowly stretched out her right arm and as soon as her fingers caressed Cruz's open palm, he grabbed them and pulled her towards Cade's bed forcefully. "Yesterday, this was what you succeeded in doing. Now…" He paused to inhale deeply as a way of calming himself down. "...Cade has gone into a coma and now he will definitely fail his exams because he won't even be able to participate in it just like you prophesied. You must have seen this coming right?" He inquired, purposely intimidating her. "Mr. Westham, I…" Jessica dropped her head down as she couldn't utter a clear word because of the huge lump that had suddenly developed in her throat from trying to hold in her pain but Cruz only saw this as a pretense. With two of his fingers,
"What will you say to him?" Cruz asked as calmly as he could as soon as Jessica answered the call. "I-I…I will apologize to him, I will tell him other things I can probably do for him just give me a chance, please!" She pleaded. Silence ensued between them for a while before Cruz broke it. "Come to the hospital tomorrow after your classes but make sure you don't lose it and begin to say hurtful things to him aga…" "I understand Mr. Westham, I will definitely be there tomorrow!" She replied happily, interrupting Cruz. Before she could thank him for the offer, he ended the call just like the first time. "I'm doing this just to rid myself of this guilt cramped up in my heart, don't think I will ever forget the pain you caused me, Mr. Westham!" She mumbled to herself before going into the bathroom to wash up and change into her nighties. The next morning, Jessica left for the school in a peach-colored mini T-shirt dress with maroon sneakers and a round purse to match. She wa
TWO WEEKS LATER Jessica couldn't make Cade wake up in the seven days she requested and since then, Cruz banned her from entering Cade's room again and made sure that the security agents see to it. Jessica continued her classes even though it hurt and was uncomfortable but that fateful morning, she was shocked to see Cade sitting in the class when she went in to teach. For a moment she thought it was her usual hallucinations but she never imagined Cade with a band-aid around his head which made it more believable that he was real. She walked down to his desk to take a clearer look, "I'm sure I have served my punishment of two weeks outside your class. Are you still going to send me out?" Cade asked curiously. Jessica's eyes were welled up so she quickly raised her gaze and cleaned up her tears to avoid embarrassing herself in front of the students. "Definitely not!" She replied with a smile. "Welcome back, and I hope we have a fresh new start!" She cheered as she traced he
