As Mrs. Gilbert fell, she stared at me in surprise while I pointed a finger at her and warned, "If you ever try to hit Cora again, I will forget your relationship with her father and chop off your hands."

The doctors came inside the room to prepare Cora's father for transfer at this point. I helped Emily up from the ground and said in a voice audible enough for everyone to hear, "Mr. Gilbert will be moved to a higher facility to speed up his recovery. Take good care of him until we see him again, Mrs. Gilbert."

She nodded while pretending to have been frightened by me. Meanwhile, I held Cora's hand and took her away from her father's body. She reluctantly followed me and after he was transferred, I asked Emily to go back home, sending two men with her for protection and promising to have her car delivered to her.
