Eighty

The mansion was silent as they got out of the car. Amelia was expecting Anne at the door, but there was no one. She smiled, thinking of a way to surprise her mother about the pregnancy. She had been surprised about many things and thought her mother deserved a good surprise after everything they had been through.

Inside, their wing was silent. Amelia frowned; from the day Anne had come to their house, she always waited for them in the living room. It had never been empty when they got back. Getting suspicious, Amelia moved to her mother’s room, but it was empty. She turned towards the kitchen, toilet, and their bedroom, but Anne was nowhere. Amelia’s eyes felt heavy with unshed tears as she turned to Mike.

“Mum is not at home, Mike. She’s not at home. What am I going to do?”

Mike frowned; had he made a mistake by leaving Anne alone in the mansion? He pulled Amelia closer, “Don’t cry. We’re going to find mother. Remember what the doctor said. Wait here; I will ask the securities.”
