Miranda’s P.O.V

“Are you sure that there’s no way for us to come to the party? I really want to get dressed up and mingle with the rich, even just for one night,” Angela huffed as she swirled the spaghetti in her plate with her fork. She, Jeremy, and I were once again in the canteen having lunch, and it was my third day at work.

“Invitations were sent to the individuals on the guest list; thus, I cannot add anyone on it since they have already gone out and we’ve received RSVPs. I really wish I could get you guys in,” I explained and took a sip of my iced latte.

Jeremy’s lips curled in derision. “It’s probably for the best. I would hate to be around those types of people for long, plus attending a party hosted by the boss. No thanks, I’d rather go to the bar and look for some chick to hook up with, thank you very much,” he sniffed righteously with a sly grin. Angela glared at him and almost threw a slice of cucumber at him.

I glanced at my phone and saw that it was already one forty-fi

Third Person’s P.O.VThe day of Davien’s inauguration had arrived, and pretty much everyone around him was in a frenzy; except for him. He was as cool as a cucumber as he thought of it as not a big deal; for him it was just like any other day, save for the huge press conference and evening party to follow. In the morning, he got up very early and went out for a jog before returning and entering his private gym to do some bench pressing and cardio. Right as he was in the middle of a set of burpees, the door opened and Miranda walked in, already dressed for the day in a white suit with a pink silk blouse and white heels. Her hair was up in an intricate do with it parted at the side and pinned back. Her make wasn’t too obvious; the only thing that stood out was her bright red lipstick, which made her cerulean orbs pop.“It’s almost eight in the morning and you haven’t even gotten dressed yet. Are you trying to be late?” she reprimanded, giving him a judgemental look. Finishing the last

Miranda’s P.O.VI returned to the house around four in the afternoon to get ready for the dinner party. Davien had opted to stay a while longer, since he had an impromptu meeting with the board of directors who wanted to discuss a few things with him before the party. I’d gone straight to my room after arriving, showered for half an hour, and then emerged from the bathroom squeaky clean with my hair damp and smelling like vanilla. I was trying out a new shampoo, and let’s just say that I was loving the results so far. I don’t think my hair had ever felt this silky. After blow drying my hair, I took a curling iron to create beach waves. I was thinking about dying my hair black for a change. I just wanted something different, I wanted to be a different version of myself. I guess I’ll find the time to do that in the weeks to come. From a distance, I heard the front door open and some footsteps going up the stairs. I assumed that Davien had just gotten back from the office and was now rus

Miranda’s P.O.VSasha continued to glare at Davien’s mother, who seemed unphased by her presence. She took a flute of champagne from a nearby waiter and took a huge sip from it. Once done, she handed it to one of the burly men escorting her. Everyone had pretty much gone back to what they were doing but kept one eye in our direction. I stood there, looking lost and like I’d rather be anywhere else but there. I was about to step away into the crowd when Davien’s hawk like gaze landed on me. “Who might this bellezza be?” she asked, golden eyes flashing with curiosity. I nearly crumpled under her intense stare, that is, until Davien decided to step in to rescue me.“She’s my personal assistant, Miranda. Miranda, this is my mother, Giorgia,” he said, and once again placed his hand on the small of my back. Giorgia extended her hand to me, which I hesitantly grasped in a slow and unsteady shake; unsteady because my hand was shaking. There was something rather intimidating about this woman,

Third Person’s P.O.VCamille had never been overly fond of attending big social events where people made it evident that they had lots of money and many connections. The evening was rather bland, with nothing much going on. Most of the night consisted of her keeping her eye on Miranda, who didn’t seem enthused to be there more than her. She was just about to fall asleep in her seat when suddenly the music got more upbeat, and couples began to occupy the dancefloor.Like the gentleman he is, Jason offered her to dance and she happily obliged. He wasn’t exactly the best dance partner out there, but he wasn’t a complete dud on his feet either. It was a distraction that she very much needed if she was going to last an hour or more at the party, which she wished she had ditched instead of attending. But Michael had insisted that she attend, for the sake of reconnaissance. So far, she had gathered little information on Miranda, or Davien, whom they both suspected were somehow romantically i

Miranda’s P.O.VAfter what happened last night, I have been avoiding Davien which is no easy feat. I mean, we live under the same roof, and we work at the same place, so you can imagine how badly I am failing at this. We came back last night, and the car ride was extremely tense and awkward. I was fidgeting the whole way, and from the corner of my eye, I could see that Davien was calm as always, but his grip on the steering wheel made his knuckles white, which made me think he was just as uneasy about this as I was.I won’t lie, kissing him was probably the best thing I have ever experienced, and it made me feel alive. I liked it so much that I didn’t want him to stop; I want it to go beyond that. I had to remind myself that a) I’m still technically a married woman, albeit getting a divorce and b) he is also technically my boss. For a moment, I let myself get carried away by these weird hormones and emotions that get activated whenever I am around me. I knew it was wrong, but damn, he

Miranda’s P.O.VMichael was finally able to sign the divorce papers and today, we would be meeting in order to make settlements concerning how we would split our assets in a fair proportion. I’d told my self to be calm, because there really was no point in me meeting up with him and his lawyer if I was a nervous wreck. I’d gotten the day off from work thanks to my somewhat lenient boss.Speaking of my boss, the last couple of days have been extremely awkward. We hadn’t spoken much as he was completely swamped with work, now being the full time CEO, his duties had in creased tenfold. He had to make sure that every department of the company was functioning optimally, having several meetings with stakeholder and various potential investors. Also, there was the fact that he was thinking of expanding to Europe, which would involve a lot of travelling. Right now, there were talks of buying a marketing firm in France, and that was his main preoccupation. My meeting with Michael and his attor

Miranda’s P.O.VI used a back exit in order to avoid Christian seeing me. My mind was too clouded with anger for me to see anyone that I know, and as such, I knew that Christian would notify Davien of my upset behaviour. Let’s just say I wasn’t in the right frame of mind, and I was a little embarrassed from how I’d handled the situation back there. It was so unlike me to have such a violent outburst but lately, Michael had been pushing me into a tight corner. It would only be normal for me to react that way, or at least I think it was. I should have at least knocked him out in the process…I needed some air, hell, a lot of air so I opted to walk around aimlessly for as long as my legs would allow. Good thing today I’d worn flats otherwise I’d have looked like a complete idiot, wandering in the streets with stilettos. When I’d married Michael, I’d never thought that he’d be the type to hurt me this much, and a part of me that still loved him was utterly disappointed. Let’s face it, you

“Can’t you move any faster?” I spoke in impatience, literally on the edge of my seat.Donovan gave me the side eye before training his attention back on the road ahead. “You need to relax. I can’t control the traffic with my mind and you know damn well how bad it can be at this hour. It’s rush hour, dude. Why don’t sit down, and keep your mouth shut otherwise I’ll throw your ass out of my car,” he seethed in utter annoyance.Rolling my eyes, I sat back in my seat and crossed my arms, to keep me from fidgeting with them. I just wanted to get to the pub and make sure Miranda was okay. Heaven only knows what kind of people she was currently surrounded by and what they were doing to her. She certainly didn’t belong with that kind of crowd and if anything, I was really upset with her for even stepping foot in such a shoddy establishment. We’d been on the road for almost an hour now, due to the flow of traffic that seemed to be more stagnant than anything. I’d have taken my own car, but Ch

8 Months LaterMiranda’s P.O.V“I’m so jealous of Davien right now. I know Angela would never do any of this for me,” Jeremy huffed as he put up the last of the decoration in the dining room.Angela stuck her tongue out at him before making her towards the table, putting the utensils into place. “Firstly, you’re an ingrate so no matter how much I do for you, you always find a way to under appreciate it and me in the process. I’ve given up on trying to surprise you after that whole lingerie incident,” she pointed out with a scowl. My eyebrows rose in intrigue. “Lingerie? You never told me about that. Please do tell me what happened,” I beamed, bringing over a bouquet of orchids to be the centre piece.“Well, for our one month anniversary, I might have made a trip to a store and bought us a matching set of lingerie. Jeremy here wasn’t at all pleased about it,” she huffed with an eye roll.Jeremy gave her a flat look. “Are you kidding me? Your set was sexy as hell but mine? That was a fr

Third Person’s P.O.VSome hours later, Miranda was tied up on a chair in some abandoned warehouse looking place, blindfolded. As soon as they landed, she had had her vision obscured, for some reason. It’s not like she would know where they were anyways or have anyway of contacting anyone about her location. Whilst everything that was happening threatened to make her have a freak panic attack, she relied on breathing patterns. It had already been a couple of hours and the atmosphere was becoming too tense for her to breathe. Now that she thought about it, the food she’d consumed on the aeroplane was quite horrendous. Yet again, what did she expect from a plane chattered by Michael, some gold-digging cheap skate? It had given her indigestion, probably because her baby had rejected it too.Her baby… She’d been thinking about the child nonstop. Miranda had never quite thought about motherhood before but after this morning, it was all she could think about. With Michael, he had made it cl

Davien’s P.O.VOf all the news I’ ever received in my life, besides just hearing that the love of my life went missing a short few hours ago, this is by far the most numbing of all. I was so dazed by the doctor’s words that I dropped my phone and stood there in paralysis. All colours must have drained from my face because the bodyguards rushed to me to check if I wasn’t having an aneurysm or something of the sort. Mathias picked up my phone and ended the call, before placing it on the huge mahogany work desk. “Sir, are you okay? Would you like me to call an ambulance?” he asked warily but his words fell upon deaf ears.My whole world had literally tilted on its axis. On the one hand, I felt this inexplicable elation at the thought of having a child with Miranda but then the harsh reality was that she was currently still at large, which only made the situation more dire. The door to my office burst open and my mother strolled in, eyes bright and lips red as always, dressed in an elega

Miranda’s P.O.VAs Michael forced me along the side path we were walking on, I made a mental note to not panic because that wouldn’t be good for me or the baby. Plus, that’s what he wanted, for me to be scared and whimper in his presence but I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction. I’d already made a fool of myself in his presence multiple times, I wouldn’t be doing that again. “This is a little over the top, don’t you think?” I said in a snide tone, and I earned a scowl from him. “I knew you were desperate, but this is really low. I just don’t understand why you can’t get over me even after all those horrible things you said and did to me. If you loved me, then you’d have never done that shit,” I sniffed, and he pressed the gun harder into my back. For a moment, he pulled me into a conveniently placed alley along the way and had me pressed against the wall. “I was very blind back then, and I thought I didn’t love you. It only took losing you for me to realise that you are the lo

Miranda’s P.O.VYou know, as someone who had been a fan of romance novels and films alike in my teenage years, I always found it very astounding when a female lead would unexpectedly wind up pregnant with the child of the hot and charismatic male lead, in fact, it was a popular trope for me. But now that the exact same scenario was happening in my life, all I could feel was complete numbness.Me…pregnant? I am pregnant, with Davien’s kid?I hadn’t thought about it much when I’d skipped my period some days ago, call it an oversight on my part but I thought the monthly bleeding was bound to show up any minute now. When the doctor smiled at me broadly, I just sat there like a mindless drone waiting for some shockwave to bring me to life. I’d hoped that I had some stomach flu, but this is a lot more serious than I’d anticipated. Was I really pregnant?“I can tell from your reaction that this is very shocking and most probably your first child. But I can assure you the tests are very concl

Miranda’s P.O.V“I just wish that I had a boyfriend who could take me out on fancy yachts and fly me to Paris for a romantic getaway,” Angela whined, a pout visible on her face. She was at her apartment whilst I was still some 10 000 feet in the air, a few of hours away from touching down in France.I laughed as I held the phone up. “This is not a romantic getaway, it’s business. Besides, I’m sure that Jeremy is a great boyfriend anyhow,” I argued lightly, resulting in her rolling her eyes at me.“He’s just no hot, half-Italian billionaire. Tell me, does Davien have any friends available?” she asked before her phone was abruptly grabbed from her and Jeremy’s face popped up on the screen. He didn’t look at all amused by Angela’s words, and a little frumpy from waking up from a nap I surmised.“I think this call had reached it’s end. Enjoy your trip, Mira babe. And pray that your stupid friend and I wouldn’t have killed each other by the time you come back,” he grumbled groggily before

Davien’s P.O.VI pushed the heavy weight with all my might for about the umpteenth time since I woke up. I had been at the bench press, trying to channel my inner frustration and pent-up stress into some time in my personalised home gym, even though working out since 2 a.m. in the morning can be deemed absurd by many. My upper body was so sweaty like I’d walked through the Sahara Desert, but instead of feeling like a piece of bacon on a grill, I felt refreshed and empowered. I was mainly aggravated due to this whole Kidman being on the run situation. Granted, I had hired a small army to protect Miranda at all times, but somehow that didn’t make me feel any less worried about her safety. It had only been a little over three weeks since Camille’s murder and still, the police had no idea where that bastard was hiding. I’d always considered the feds to be quite incompetent, but this just took it to another level. I mean, Michael didn’t even have that much influence or prowess when it cam

Third Person’s P.O.VHis getaway had been perfect but now, because of his recklessness, he was on the list of wanted criminals. It hadn’t occurred to Michael that he’d someday end up on Interpol’s radar, and it wasn’t as exhilarating as it was depicted in all those action-packed thrillers he’d watched over the years.Being on the run sucked because he had to keep a low profile and be always on alert. If he played his cards right, he might not end up ever getting caught and he’d be able to exact his revenge on Davien and Miranda. Their chartered plane had taken them all the way to Marseille, France where he’d purchased a sweet little home using one of his offshore accounts, he’d prepared months ago. It was where he’d stashed his secret money that he’d made from all the clients he’d dealt with at Hux & Co. Though dishonest, it was a very lucrative way to make money, and with all the down time he’d had to himself investing in other businesses under a guise, he’d made even more money tha

Miranda’s P.O.VI walked into the cafeteria; pulse unsettled. Tensions were still thick, since I’d found out my e-husband had murdered his lover just yesterday. I’d skipped lunch yesterday due to lack of appetite but today, I was really famished. I hadn’t eaten much in the morning and last night, even though Davien tried by all means to convince me to do so but I just couldn’t. The thought of ever having been entangled with Michael made my skin crawl and my stomach twist painfully.Exhaling inaudibly, I made it to the lunch line and got a serving of today’s special before finding my way over to our usual table. To my surprise, only Jeremy was occupying the space and he looked a little bit distracted. “Hey Jeremy,” I greeted before plopping down next to him.He glanced at me fleetingly and offered a half-hearted smile. “Hey, baby doll. Where were you yesterday?” he asked immediately, and I looked down at my plate in disdain. “I had a lot of work, so I couldn’t come to lunch,” I lied i
