Mirabella's pov

It was late at night, and I was lying on my bed, mindlessly swiping through Tinder, trying to find my next hookup for tomorrow, when a knock came at the door.

"I'm full, Eunice," I called out lazily, not bothering to look away from my phone.

"I’m not having dinner."

The knock came again, but the voice that followed was not Eunice’s.

“It’s me, Bella. Open the door. We need to talk.”

I hissed under my breath, my irritation spiking as soon as I heard Jayden’s voice.

"Bella, open this door now!” He barked as the door handle rattled under his impatient grip.

I scoffed, my eyes still glued to my phone. “Oh, I get it. You had your dinner, and now you are here for dessert, right?”

My voice rose a little. “Well, newsflash, Jayden, that’s not happening anymore. Get over it.”

The rattling stopped for a second, but then there was a loud, sudden crash as the door flew open, slamming against the wall.

My heart jumped into my throat, panic gripping me for a split second, but I ma

Jayden's povI was supposed to feel satisfied after leaving Mirabella in misery, just as I had planned. Striding toward my study, I expected the usual rush of satisfaction, but instead, an unsettling emptiness crept over me, leaving me confused. “Why am I feeling like this?” I muttered under my breath, my brows furrowed.Normally, I enjoyed seeing her suffer—whether it was through hitting her or using her like she was nothing but a sex slave. But this time, it felt different. Was it guilt? Guilt for leaving her in that condition? The thought annoyed me, yet I could not shake it. My thoughts were interrupted by Eunice’s panicked voice echoing from upstairs. “Mirabella! Mirabella! Wake up!” she screamed. I scoffed, irritation bubbling up. "Why is she yelling like that slut’s fighting for her life?” Maybe this lingering dissatisfaction was just because I had not taken things far enough. Maybe that’s why I felt so off. “Sir, she’s fainted!” Eunice’s frantic shout came again, louder

Mirabella's povWaking up to the sight of Jayden made my heart race, as though I had come face-to-face with the demon that had haunted my nightmares for years. It felt like he had stepped straight out of my dreams to finally finish what he started—to end me. Those brief moments of unconsciousness had taught me something: no matter what, death could never be an option for me. I had to stay alive, no matter the cost, and make every second count.“What happened? I thought he left,” I rasped, my voice barely above a whisper, as I turned to Eunice after he left the room. I didn’t really expect him to leave because predators don’t let their prey go—not even if it begs. “Yes, but I called for his help when you fainted, and he came back,” she said, smiling as she gently brushed my hair over and over. Her response threw me into confusion."He did?" I whispered in disbelief. "Yes, he did," she replied.I tried to sit up, wanting to get a grip on what was going on, but she gently pushed me b

Jayden's povPainting usually calmed my mind, but today, it failed me. The strange guilt from putting Mirabella in that situation earlier refused to fade, lingering like an unwelcome shadow. It was not just painting—it was everything. Even the usual distractions of alcohol and sex from the night before had not worked. For the first time, my coping mechanisms had betrayed me. None of this had ever happened before. Painting had always been my last resort, the final escape when all else failed. But now, even that was not enough, and the frustration gnawed at me. Unable to shake the restlessness, I left home early, hoping that burying myself in work would help. Hours passed, but the storm in my head raged. It was during this battle with my thoughts that Zayn finally arrived. I had called for him earlier, needing his presence more than I cared to admit."What about your girlfriend, or is she your fiancee?" I asked him immediately after he sat in front of me."What?!" His eyes widened i

Jayden's pov "Wait!" Zayn frozen before he slowly turned. When I told him to return to the chair, his jaw slackened, and his eyes widened with unease. I smiled reassuringly. "Relax. I’m not taking back my decision about your relationship. There’s just something else I need to talk to you about." His shoulders sagged with relief, and he smiled faintly before sitting back down. I leaned forward, my tone dropping to something more serious. "What I’m about to tell you is the real reason I called you here. I trust you, and I need this conversation to stay between us." His expression shifted, curiosity flashing in his eyes. "You have my word, boss." "Not even your girlfriend, Zayn. Do you promise me that?" He nodded, affirming that it would remain a secret between us forever. Afterward, I laid it all out for him—everything that had been going on between Mirabella and me. I told him about how I used to treat her, the punishments, the restrictions, the harm I caused, an

Mirabella's pov"I'm sorry you had to go through all this," Caesar said as he walked into my bedroom, joining Lucy and me. "Well, we both knew the risks," I chuckled. "Remember you said it would either end like this or with that fleeting victory we thought was the finish line." I reminded him. After confirming Jayden had left, I called them with Eunice's phone to break the news. I didn’t expect them to actually show up."I think we should take you to the hospital," Lucy suggested."You need proper treatment. Self-care won’t cut it.""That’s not an option," I replied, shaking my head. "If I leave this mansion again, he might actually kill me. Besides," I added with a forced laugh, "Eunice’s treatment this morning helped a lot. The bruises are already feeling better.""But—" Lucy began, worry still etched on her face.Caesar cut in before she could finish. "She’s right, honey. She’s been through enough already."He strode confidently toward the bed where I lay, hands buried in his po

Mirabella's pov The door creaked open, and my heart, already racing, pounded harder against my chest. "Stay calm, Bella," I said to myself, but calm was impossible when he was near me after what I had almost gone through at his hands. "Good evening, Mirabella." His voice was soft, as if he were not the same man who had left bruises on my skin. I shifted on the bed, pressing my back against the headboard. My fingers gripped the blanket like it was the only thing tethering me to life. Was this another game? Was he luring me into a false sense of security before unleashing more pain? His gait and demeanour were cool, but I knew better. It was nothing but a facade. I also knew his smile was hiding whatever malice simmered beneath. “How are you feeling? Did you sleep well today?” His question made me shift on the bed as my legs instinctively pulled closer to my chest. I felt like a prey trapped under the gaze of a predator as he approached me. "What is he up to this night? To cont

Mirabella's pov I heaved a heavy sigh of relief when the door opened to reveal Eunice. Her face eased the tension that had knotted my stomach. “You scared me,” I muttered, pressing a hand to my chest. She smiled as she stepped inside. “You thought it was him, didn’t you?” I didn’t answer, but my silence said enough. She crossed the room and sat beside me on the edge of the bed. “You should get changed,” she announced. My brows furrowed in confusion. “Changed? For what?” “To go to the hospital.” She grinned like it was the most natural thing in the world. I scoffed, shaking my head. “Enough with the jokes. Jayden is home. How is that possible?" Her smile did not falter. “What if he gave the order?” My breath hitched. "He gave the order?” I repeated, the disbelief thick in my voice. "Why would he— No. Stop. Just tell me the real reason you are here. Does he want me at the dining table or what?” “No,” she replied calmly, gently pushing me back when I tried to sit

Jayden's pov I was in my study room that night, the dim light from my desk lamp casting long shadows across the walls as I tried to distract my mind by reading when Zayn returned from the hospital. I later joined him in the living room. "Why didn't you take her by yourself instead of me, boss?" He asked, his voice tight with the frustration he did not hide well, despite the casual way he sat down across from me. I looked up at him, startled by the question. My mind was still processing our conversation from earlier, but his words had hit a nerve. I met his gaze, my eyes narrowing. "I'm disappointed to hear that from you. Need I remind you of the implication of it?" He blinked, caught off guard, before leaning back on the sofa. "Implication?" His voice was laced with confusion. "You mean people thinking that you were the one behind the state she's in?" I scoffed, shaking my head. His thinking was so off it almost made me laugh. People already knew I had a reputation for s

Mirabella's povFor days, I hadn’t given much thought to my conversation with Lucy and Caesar. I had been too caught up with Jayden—spending time together, going on dates, and having sex. But one evening, after dinner, he took me to what everyone believed to be his study room.At first, I thought he was taking me on another date when he mentioned earlier that he had a surprise for me until we stopped in front of the door.At first, I was not sure what I was looking at as the warm glow of a chandelier hanging from the ceiling slowly illuminated the space before me, revealing a breathtaking sight. Floor-to-ceiling shelves lined the walls, packed with books. A large wooden desk sat near the centre, between two chairs. But what truly caught my breath were the artworks. Framed paintings and sketches hung meticulously on the walls. Scattered around the room were more canvases, some stacked against the shelves, some propped up on easels as if abandoned. A scent of aged paper and faint t

Mirabella's povI woke up to the soft golden glow of sunlight spilling through the blinds, warming and painting stripes of warmth across my skin.My body instinctively craved a stretch to shake off the remnants of sleep, but just as I began to move, a voice cut through the stillness. “Stop.” It was sharp, yet calm, and it made me freeze mid-motion. Slowly, I turned my head toward the voice, my gaze landing on Jayden. There he was, perched on a stool by the window, a streak of sunlight catching in the messy strands of his hair. A faint smile curved his lips, but his eyes were sharp, focused on the canvas before him. In one hand, he held a brush, dappled with shades of vibrant color, and his other rested lightly on the edge of the easel. The brush danced effortlessly over the canvas, his wrist flicking with confident precision.“Don’t. Move,” he repeated, softer this time, his smile widening ever so slightly.“What the hell are you doing?” I asked, my voice groggy with sleep. H

Mirabella's povThere was nothing more I had prayed for than to find a home—an actual home where love did not feel like a transaction or a weapon. Now, I had it. Jayden, our adopted son Lucas, and Eunice had become my everything. For the first time in my chaotic life, I felt like I belonged somewhere. The room buzzed with warmth as I sat in Lucy and Caesar’s luxurious living room, gushing about my life with Jayden. I spoke with a wide grin, my hands animated as I described Jayden's hilarious antics and his sudden obsession with baking cookies for me. But something was off. Her silence had been gnawing at me for minutes. She usually had this infectious energy that lit up every conversation, but now, she sat stiffly, her hands clutching the hem of her dress like it was the only thing holding her together. Her face was swollen, bruised, and far too quiet. My words faltered mid-sentence, the grin melting from my face. “Lucy, what happened to your face?” I asked. Her eyes darted away

Mirabella's povI left the hospital with Jayden and the boy, Lucas, whom he had adopted. To my surprise, Jayden was not just changing towards me—he seemed different overall, especially with how friendly he had been to Lucas since we left the hospital. The man who once seemed cold and distant now wanted to take a little boy on a tour around the house. “Are you sure the kid isn’t your long-lost son?” I raised an eyebrow and smirked. It was so unlike him that I could not resist teasing him about it. His face scrunched in confusion. “I don’t know what you are talking about.” “Have you forgotten how you used to barely tolerate me?” I shot back, crossing my arms. "And now here you are, ready to give Lucas the grand tour.” He let out a scoff, shaking his head in disbelief. “Don’t tell me you are jealous.” “Me? Jealous?” I shrugged nonchalantly, though my smirk gave me away. "Please. I’m just stating the obvious.” That was all it took to flip the switch. His gaze darkened as he bega

Mirabella's povJayden's voice dropped low. "You probably should have figured it out by now that you were operated on while you were at the club, like so many others in your position."He paused, his eyes fixed on the floor."A tracking chip was implanted in your arm to monitor your movements in case you tried to escape. It’s still there, and it’s how I’ve been able to keep track of you.”The fact that he was finally telling me now... stripping himself bare just like he had been doing of late was the final confirmation I needed that he's now changed and loved me dearly like he had been claiming.Slowly, he raised his gaze, his eyes meeting mine for the first time since he started speaking."You didn’t know, did you?" His voice barely above a whisper. He hesitated, then stepped closer, just two small steps, as if unsure of how close he could get. "I’m sorry for keeping this from you until now," he said, his voice cracking with emotion."I—""It’s okay," I said, cutting him off gently

Mirabella's povI had expected Jayden to storm into my room first thing this morning, dragging me out of bed out of anger after what happened last night. Instead, I woke up on my own. It made me wonder if maybe, just maybe, he had actually changed like Eunice and Lucy kept insisting—and maybe he did deserve a chance after all. Then it hit me that I had completely flaked on my plan to meet Lucy at the art exhibition last night. Grabbing my phone, I dialled her number but got no answer. I tried again. Still nothing.Feeling a pang of guilt, I typed out a quick message: "I'm sorry, babe. Jayden and I couldn't show up there because something unexpected came up. You know I’d never ditch you on purpose, right?" "Let’s meet up later today so I can make it up to you. We’ve got a lot to talk about!" Even as I sent the message, my stomach twisted with worry. Was she still mad at me? Or worse, was she hurt? I told myself she would eventually reply or call me back, so I pushed the thoughts as

Jayden's povThe sex with Mirabella last night was thrilling, but a wave of regret kept hitting me afterward. Now, I could not stop questioning if I had made a mistake. Sure, I could blame the alcohol, but was that really a valid excuse? I let out a heavy sigh as I drove to the hospital to check on the boy I had hit last night as Ariana’s words of advice kept echoing in my mind. “I’ll deal with that later,” I muttered to myself, even though I hoped Mirabella would not feel hurt to prevent pulling us back together—exactly what Ariana had warned me against. When I reached the hospital's registration desk, I felt a small wave of relief when the nurse informed me the boy was awake and doing fine. Without wasting a second, I headed straight to his ward. The moment I walked in, our eyes met. He tried to adjust himself in bed but winced, clutching his side. “Take it easy,” I said softly, offering a faint smile as I moved closer. He kept his hand on his ribs, his eyes narrowing in susp

Mirabella's pov“Why are you trying to drink yourself to death?” I asked Jayden, surprise and shock still etched on my face. He didn't say anything but only stared at the ceiling as though it held the answers to every question he was too tired to ask. The Jayden I knew was sharp, always in control. But version of him looked... shattered and exposed, a shift that had been obvious since he struck the boy. "Why are you doing this to yourself?" I asked gently, moving a little closer. He muttered something under his breath, too low to catch at first, but the words eventually registered.“What if the boy dies, uh?” His eyes darted to mine, wild and glassy, searching me for something I didn’t understand. "I can't just stop wondering about the possibility no matter how hard I try not to."It was hard to ignore the state he was in."You are drunk, Jayden," I said, closing the distance between us after realising there was no point in having this conversation with him again.
