Skyler’s POV
Since everywhere was quiet, I decided to make Kia happy, at least to share my best moments with him. "Anty Skyler, what is the stake that you will not leave my daddy?" Kai asked all of a sudden. We were outside the house, in the compound, and he began to pluck flowers where he was playing with butterflies. "Why do you ask?" "Nothing, I just think this will be the beginning of my dad's peace of mind. He has not been having rest of mind and always thinks of something anytime he is alone," Kia said, moving closer to me. "Has he ever told you what he always thinks about?" I asked him because this was the first time hearing this. "No, anytime I ask him, he doesn’t answer me, and I think it’s because he needs a woman beside him. When I was with Grandma, I told her, and that was why he called Anty Clara from abroad to come home and marry." "Ohh, so you mean that was the reason why Clara is here?" "Yes." My mouth gaped. I could recall how many times Zain would just go silent and start thinking, the reason for which he couldn’t share. I don’t think it’s about a wife, it must be something else, though. "Kia, let’s go inside. You’ll stress yourself a lot, and you’ll need to rest," I said. Turning back to the door, I saw a young lady in her late twenties, dressed in a suit and casual wear. "Hello, how can I help you?" I asked. But when she came in, it was Kia she was looking at. "Hi, my name is Kate. I’m Zian Hill’s friend. Is he around?" she asked. I moved back a bit because, even when she was talking, all her focus was on Kia. "Kia, go inside. I will meet you soon," I said to Kia. I don’t trust anyone, neither do I know anybody. As much as Zian’s parents are not in full support of this, there will be some problems within. "I’m sorry. Zain Hill is not around. And who are you to him?" I asked her all of a sudden because if Zain wanted to give someone an appointment, it would either be at the office if official or at the bar if casual. I’m his PA and have been working for him for years now. I have never witnessed Zain Hill giving someone an appointment at his house. "I’m his childhood friend." I moved away from the sun, and we walked into a chamber where we normally organize for visitors who don’t want to come inside. "And who are you to him?" she asked all of a sudden. That was a foolish question, but I answered since I hadn’t found out who she was to Zain. "I’m his PA. You can call me Skyler." "Ohh, that’s good." All of a sudden, I saw Zain’s car drive in. Zain doesn’t come home at this time unless it’s urgent. Definitely, there must be something wrong. "Why are you home at this time of the day? What is wrong?" Instead of answering my questions, he asked, "Do you have visitors?" pretending he didn’t know who came here. "No, she came for you, and I wonder why you invited your visitor home. Why not the office? Why not a place like a bar or restaurant?" "I don’t think I have visitors." "Hi Zain, you’re so pretty. You are now a grown man," Kate said immediately when she saw Zain coming towards her. But Zain said he didn’t know her. I could see Zain trying to use his eyes to signal the girl, not trying to confuse her. "Do you know her?" I asked Zain. "Yes, she is one of my friends from childhood." I didn’t understand anymore, but I knew there was something wrong that he wasn’t telling me. I whispered to him, trying to note the truth about her. "She is Kia’s mother," he said. "Kia’s mother? How?" I was shocked. Why would a woman give birth to a child and leave him with a man for years, then come back now? I left their midst immediately. After hearing that, my mind was spinning. Is Zain trying to tell me that his ex has come back? My nostrils flared as I stared at Zain again. I couldn’t believe she’d taken Zain away from me. I slammed the door behind me so hard the walls seemed to shake. My chest felt tight, like there wasn’t enough air in the room. My head was pounding, and my hands wouldn’t stop shaking. She’s back. I clenched my fists so hard my nails dug into my palms, but I didn’t care. I could still see her face, smooth skin, the bright smile, the way her hair fell perfectly over her shoulders. She looked like she stepped out of a magazine. And me? I felt like a crumpled piece of paper standing next to her. “How can she just come back like that?” My stomach twisted, and I pressed my hand against it, trying to make the feeling go away, but it wouldn’t. She left her son. She left her son with my husband. And now, she thinks she can just show up like nothing happened? I started pacing the room, my feet moving without thinking. I couldn’t stop seeing the way my husband looked at her. That soft smile, the warmth in his eyes. He never looks at me like that. “She’s better than me,” I muttered under my breath, the words cutting me like a knife. The thought hit me like a punch to the gut. Of course, he still loves her. How could he not? She’s beautiful. She’s perfect. I couldn’t compete with her even if I tried. But all I feel is this sharp, aching pain in my chest. I’ve been the one here for him. I’ve been the one to kiss him goodnight, wipe his tears, and hold him when he was scared. But none of that matters now that she’s back. I stopped pacing and stared at the floor, tears blurring my vision. My throat burned, but I refused to cry. Not for her. Not for him. The tears started falling before I could stop them, hot and heavy down my cheeks. I wiped them away with the back of my hand, but they kept coming. I hated her. I hated how perfect she looked. I hated how she made me feel so small, so invisible.Skylar's POVI was skeptical about what to do at the winery party’s opening, surrounded by the state’s wealthiest people. I couldn’t believe I’d been allowed at such an event, but as the manager of Zane Hills, who sat beside me, it was my job. I was growing tired of the role, and I’d been planning to leave soon, especially since it made focusing on my relationship nearly impossible. Today was my anniversary, yet here I was, spending it with my boss instead.“Welcome, everyone, to the auction of the Azure Veil wine recipe,” the hostess announced, snapping me out of my thoughts. I sat up, focusing on the stage.“We have prominent businessmen with us, so we’ll jump right in before starting the night’s celebration.” She gestured toward the curtains, and applause erupted as they parted, revealing a single blue bottle on a stand.“The bidding starts now. Ten million, going.”“Seventy million”“Eighty million”“One hundred”“Child’s play,” Zane muttered beside me, tapping his fingers on the
“You what?” I almost screamed. “You had it coming, Skylar. I don't want a girlfriend who won't be there if I need to feel loved. I don't want a girlfriend who loves her job more than me.” “So you cheated on me, Ray? How could you do this to me? How could you even think of doing that to me? That's unfair.” I almost screamed, tears running down my face, and just then, I heard the door push open, and slowly it was closed. My eyes met with my boss's eyes, and he looked as though he were standing there, a towel wrapped around his waist and water dripping from his hair down to his already wet chest but instead of feeling attracted, I was disgusted. And then it hit me, I just had a night with my boss. “Holy…” I quickly covered my mouth, not to draw attention to myself over the phone. I just cheated on my boyfriend also and here I was criticizing him for doing the same. Why does Zane always have to be in it? “Please, Ray. Let's just talk about this.”“There's nothing to talk about.” He c

Oh, my God. Zane Hills, please. I need to go and get prepared for today.”“Well, before you go, you have to see what I have to offer. Don’t you think so?”“Offer? I don’t understand. What do you mean by offer?” Soon one of his men walked in with a suitcase in his hand, and soon I started to wonder what was going on.“So! Miss Skyler Miller, what do you think about this? He said as he stretched out his hand towards me with a paper.”“What is this?”“Will you just check it out first and stop asking questions?”Soon I went through it, and it was a contract—a marriage contract! “What is this? What does this mean?”“What do
Skyler POV. I woke up to see a man that probably will be in his 25 now. I can’t still process who he is until I open my eyes wider, and I could see myself in a different room. "How did I get here?" "But you chose this hotel room number. You approached me first. Why are you asking me that question?" "Who fuckin are you? I don’t know you. You took me to this place to drug me and had intimacy with me." "Don’t touch me," I shouted as he wanted to calm me down when he realized that my voice was rising up. Then, I saw myself naked, and my bra and pants on the floor. "What am I doing here? Please, can you explain what I’m doing here with you, asshole?" He smiled when I called him an asshole. "You must be joking. If you don’t believe me, let me tell you how it started." Then he took his phone from the table and showed me a video. I was choked when I saw myself, talking and forcing him. I saw how I was behaving in the bar. I was frustrated, and I fast-forwarded it. I saw how I was ridi
Zain's POV As we stepped out of the Ministry of Marriage building, I let go of Skyler’s hand. The only reason I had held it inside was to avoid giving the paparazzi a story they didn’t already have. Still, a few pictures of us were captured while leaving the building. I smirked slightly as the cameras flashed.“Congratulations, Mrs. Skyler Hills. Congratulations on being married to me. Cheers to a good life,” I said casually before getting into my car and driving off. I didn’t look back to see her reaction, but I imagined the shock written all over her face. When I got home, I was greeted by an unwelcome sight, my parents.“What are you guys doing in my house at this time?” I asked, already annoyed.“Really, Zain? What were you doing at the marriage registry?” my mother shot back.I froze momentarily, wondering how they found out so quickly. “What do you mean, what was I doing? I didn’t think about that since it was a contract marriage. He sniffed my neck and seemed to love it.''This smells nice; you used a different perfume?'' He asked as he looked into my eyes with so much emotion in his eyes. For a while, I thought he was truly in love with me, and it was not based on a contract.''Hey, what are you thinking? You look so hungry; have you had breakfast yet?''I stuttered a little. ''I only had coffee.'' Immediately, he removed his manly hands from my waist and
I stepped out of my office and saw Mrs. Eve Hills holding Clara’s hand behind her, yelling at her son."Why do you have to embarrass her right in her presence if you are a low-class secretary? You humiliated Clara, and that is not fair enough to someone who flew down here to check on how you are doing. You need to do better, Zane Hills."I stood there, not too surprised; this wasn’t the first time Mrs. Eve Hills yelled at her son for not doing what she wanted. Zane raised his head and looked in my direction. Immediately, his mom and Clara turned to me, hatred flashing in their eyes.I felt a little insecure and used my finger to adjust my hair behind my ear."Is that a diamond ring?" Clara said as she noticed my ring finger. Mrs. Eve Hills rushed toward me, grabbed my hand, and examined the ring."Oh my goodness! You can’t afford this, Skyler. Skylar I noticed you didn’t wear the dress I bought for you to wear to the marriage registry. We had a very beautiful view from the top of the hotel room we lodged in last night. "I don’t think so," I said sharply, standing to pour more wine into our glass. "Who cares? You are my wife now, and that is all that matters to me." For a minute, he sounded so sweet, but I quickly snapped out of it, remembering it was just a contract marriage. "You know, Mrs. Eve Hills and Clara Scott almost figured out that with the expensive ring you bought for me. You could have just bought something I could afford." He pulled me closer and kissed my lips tightly. "You wear anything I get for

Skyler’s POV "I bet he is hiding something, he has been so sneaky since he came out of that marriage registry," Clara said bluntly. "Tell me, Zane Hills, is there something you are hiding from me, your mother?" "What! Am I now a kid who can’t have his own privacy?" "You are my son! Zane Hills. And I have every right to know at least some important things about you." "Really, Mom! You should start with yourself, talking behind my back, and planning a marriage I do not want for myself." "That is so rude. Zane, Clara is a good woman. I picked her specifically for you, she is the daughter of the most successful vintner. Joining both families together would be huge, Zane." "That is enough, mother!" He yelled "That is enough!" "You both need to leave now!" "Then tell us what you went to do in the marriage registry." "I will tell you when you have decided not to always poke your nose in my business." Her mother said. He walked to the door, opened his bedroom door, and waited f
