The wind was blowing hard, making it very hard to travel on foot.,the howling sound of the clattering roofs. Tthe outpouring of rain, children happily dancing on the street, the thunderbolt that created light on the already dark skies - those were witnessed by the young boy of seven, wet and chilling all over his body, he kept on walking, carrying a small bundle of clothes, not knowing where to go.
His small feet were already aching, he had been on the road for a long time, crying his heart out, tears were flowing from his emaciated face. The young boy looked up to the skies and asked desperately, "Where am I to go? Nobody wanted me, hu!...hu!...hu!...How I wished my father didn't leave me!" Only the howling wind and the unceasing rain seemed to hear the plea of the young boy; no one bothered to even look at the sight of the pitiful creature. He trod and trod until he got tired and hungry. Sitting at the bench, he saw a young girl looking at him. Her eyes were focusing on him, and he got scared. When she was about to come close to him, he suddenly got up, with a bundle in his arms, he immediately ran away but the young girl called him and said, "Excuse me! Are you not hungry and cold? I only want to give you this bread. Please come back!"
Perplexed and anxious, the young boy hurriedly walked back and took the plastic bag which contained pieces of bread, from the young girl. He ate the bread quickly, eating every crumb and even licking his small fingers. The young girl was observing him, wondering why a child like him was left alone at the park, starving, without anyone helping him, when suddenly a woman's voice was heard from behind.
"Jane, why did you run away? We have been looking for you everywhere!"
The young girl turned around and answered, "Auntie, I saw someone who looked very hungry(pointing at the young boy who had just finished eating his bread), so I gave him my food."
"It's alright, let us go, your mom and Cassandra(her cousin) are waiting for you inside the car."
The young girl and her aunt quickened their paces, went to the store nearby where the vehicle was parked. Meanwhile, the young boy followed them and shouted, "Thank you for the food, miss!"
Jane looked back and smiled at him. She was very glad to have helped the young boy. She was a six-year-old girl who came from a wealthy clan, an only child, she had everything in life but remained humble and kind. It is not the first time that she had shared her food with others. Her family owned the biggest supermarket in their hometown. They also owned thousands of hectares of land. Though an heiress, she is a good and kind-hearted person. She was also enrolled in an exclusive school for girls just like her cousin, Cassandra.
"Where have you been? Do you know that we have been looking for you everywhere? her cousin asked the young girl. She was haughty and proud. Unlike Jane, she was known as a spoiled brat who has no empathy towards other people, especially the poor ones. She may be a lot prettier than her cousin, but their behaviors are opposites, the other one - kind and humble, while she was haughty and proud.
They are of the same age, their mothers are siblings. Jane's mom was older and got married first but gave birth after three years, the same year that Cassandra was born. "When I was about to come here, I saw a young boy, he was crying so hard. I felt pity for him so I approached him....he got so scared and ran away...I called him back and told him that I only want to give him food to eat...he looked, awful mom...." Jane explained to her mom.
"Oh yeah! For you, everyone is good, what if he is a thief, huh? And worse, a kidnapper, you know, some gang uses kids to lure children like us...it is better not to trust anyone..."
Jane's mom, who was as kind as her daughter understood what she did but she would not like their argument to continue. She had enough of the two girls' bickering that she said in a calm voice, "That's enough girls, nothing happened to our dear girl here, so let us stop this conversation, and let us all head home."
"You are right Luisa, there is no sense in making this a long and tiring discourse, let us go home, okay girls?" Amelia, Cassandra's mom retorted.
Amelia Martin married a businessman who was older than her by ten years. It was a business marriage. That was the time when their construction company suffered a loss due to stiff competition in the market. Rafael Agustin was already a very rich businessman who was engaged in food production. He also owned some restaurants and resorts in the country. At first, Amelia did not want to marry him but in the end, she was persuaded by her parents, fearful that she may end up homeless. Rafael, who knew that the marriage was not to his advantage, did not hesitate because he had been in love with her since he saw her when she was a teenager. He had helped her family financially which resulted in the stability of their company, which made Amelia fall for him during their married life.
The two girls finally smiled at each other and played with their respective dolls just like any ordinary young girl - forgetting what had transpired on that early morning.
Left at the park, alone and chilling, the young boy finally decided to walk faster, grateful to the strange young girl who had given him something to eat to fill his hungry stomach. He felt renewed again, his energy coming back, he started to look for a place where he could spend the rest of the day and to find shelter where he could rest or sleep.
When the sunset, he saw himself at the company of other children, one of them asked his name and the reason why he had been roaming around the streets. He was adamant at first to talk to the young boy, but he had to, if not, what else a poor lonely boy could do?
"I do not have a place to, my father left me, and I have no one. Can you help me please?"
The stranger saw desperation written all over his face and retorted, "You can stay with us, we are living on the streets and we begged for food. As you can see, we are homeless. Are you sure you want to live with us?"
Perplexed but determined, he answered affirmatively. Immanuel, at that age, was helpless and needed all the support he could get from anyone, even to children, who looked as desperate as he was.
He shook hands with Antonio, nicknamed Anton by other vagrants, a young boy of nine who had been homeless ever since he was three years old. His parents died when he was seven, leaving him alone with other strangers, who became his family.
He did not go to school, and he did not learn to read or write; the main reason why he had a hard time understanding the conversations of other people around him. Imman, on the other hand, was taught by his mother at a very young to read and write; even his father had given him some lessons. He was enrolled to enter grade one when an unfortunate incident had occurred, changing his life completely. His father was accused of killing a construction worker. The sad part about it was that he was not the murderer - he was framed. The dead person was his friend, and both were working at the construction site near their house.
Armando Gonzales, the poor wretched father of Imman, was taken by force by the policemen at the sight of his sobbing son; his relatives did not take the young child to their care, instead, they ignored the plea of the young boy and even sold the little abode where they used to live.
All his childhood memories were gathered in that small house - his mother's embraces, kisses, the sweet talks they always had at nights before going to bed. His father's hugs, his never-ending patience towards him, the days that he used to play with him or the days that he used to tag along with him especially on Sundays, memories that he promised to keep as long as he lives, inside his heart.
For our young hero, being alone with strangers seemed to bother him at first; he could not understand how they have lived under the bridge with a filthy surrounding; mosquitoes and flies bothering them while they were sleeping, with no clean water or food; wearing shabby clothes, not taking a bath, unless it rained. That blatant reality he had seen and experienced while he lived with them. "I am just like them now. I only need to survive...I have nowhere to go so I have to stay and must not cause trouble," he once told himself.
Unlike other children, he tried to work as an errand boy; the place where he lived was near a store and he had asked the owner to give him a job as a helper at the said place. The owner took pity on him; asking him to carry bags when she had come from the supermarket, putting them inside the store. Doing this menial job, the owner gave him money and some food to eat. She was so impressed with the hardworking boy, asking him from time to time if he wanted to continue schooling. He replied positively, to the envy of the other children who were contented by just begging on the streets. Anton, for one, wanted also to help at the store, so Imman told Jessica, the store owner to help him too, but she said that she could only help one of them.
Disgusted by her decision, Anton vented his anger towards the innocent boy. One night, while Imman was sleeping, the jealous boy wrung his neck, punched his face hard, which almost caused his life to end. Fortunately, one of the older boys woke up and stopped Anton.
There was hatred in his eyes, so vile for just a nine-year-old boy. He shouted and yelled, "Get out of here! You are selfish and I hate you!"
Other children heard how he had screamed and vilified the poor innocent boy but none of them tried to stop him. They had listened to him spitting out obscene and defamatory words against Imman. Tired and frustrated at hearing derogatory words spoken against the young boy, a sturdy and well-built young man of sixteen, advised him to just leave and never to come back again.
Sobbing and disoriented, without knowing what he would do next, he decided to take his bundle out and leave. He walked the streets; not even looking behind, his heart almost breaking! "Where will I go? Who would take pity on me? Oh, father! Where are you now? I miss you so much!"
He trod his way to the store. It was closed so he tried to knock, twice he did, but no one answered. One of the neighbors who was passing by saw the young lad and told him that the owner went back to her hometown and would only come back after a week. Saddened by the news, Imman found his way to the park and slept on one of the benches, looking pitiful and hopeless.
When he woke up the following morning, he made his way to the supermarket and tried to look for a job that would help him sustain his basic needs - food and shelter. He tried to talk to some of the vendors and asked if he could do some errands for them; luckily, one of them said that he needed a boy that would help him carry loads of his commoditites which he sells to the passersby. The vendor assured him that he would give him money and food in exchange for his work. At first, the well-built man, huge and chubby, of middle age, treated him well and did what he promised but after two months, he started to abuse the poor young boy; the slightest mistake would result to harsh punishment by beating him a wooden stick. His miserable situation would continue until one day, he decided to leave the cruel man, bringing with him a little amount of money that he had saved. At that very young age, he had learned not to trust anyone - telling himself repeatedly that most of the people were bad and that most of them would only want to hurt him. Trust for others had become hard for the young boy.
One rainy night, while he was out again looking for work, he saw an old man who was alone and seemed to want to cross the street. He was almost hit by the truck but with the young boy's help, it was prevented. When Imman saw the oncoming truck about to hit the old man, he immediately rushed to the scene and helped him cross the street safely. The grateful old man thanked him and bought food for him to eat. He observed that the young boy was homeless because of his shabby appearance. Looking curiously at the young boy who was eating, he was asked by the old man where he lived and inquired about his family too. With all honesty, the young boy essayed his story, starting from the time when his father was accused of murder and was taken by the police officers at their own house; how he was abandoned by his relatives, and lastly how he tried to live with other homeless children. He also mentioned that his mother died when he was very young and that he had been trying to work hard by doing errands to earn money so that he could go to school. Moved by his story, the old man asked him if he wanted to come and live at his house and then if he would like to go back to school with his help.
Immanuel did not reply, he had doubts that the stranger would hurt him too, though his countenance showed otherwise. He thought how he was maltreated before, that all he could do was look out from afar, without emotion, whatsoever. "Do not worry, I am not a bad person. I lived alone, without any family members. It was just a pity that a young boy like you had been living like this. You have to study and later find a job so that you would have a better future. By the way, my name is Pocholo Asuncion, a school teacher, a widower, and I can see through your eyes that you are a smart and kind-hearted boy. Do not be disheartened by the attitude and behavior of other people, my friend, remember that as there are bad and evil people like the ones you have met, there are also those who are kind and nice individuals," the old man smiled at the young boy.
Though he did not understand much of what his new friend said, deep inside his young heart, he believed that he had found a true and gentle person that he could trust. He looked at him and smiled for the first time, for a very long while. "Sir, thank you for your encouragement...I will always keep that in mind. My name is Immanuel Gonzales and I promised that I'd do my best to finish school and I will make you proud."
The school teacher laughed and patted his head and asked, "By the way, what do you want to be when you grow up? Do you want to be a school teacher like me?"
"No sir. I would like to be a lawyer!" he replied enthusiastically.
After enjoying the meal and after a lot of thinking on the young boy's part, he decided to accept the old man's offer. He had lived with him and was treated like a son of his. Immanuel studied hard, graduated on top of his class, and became a top-notch lawyer. A year after he graduated, his mentor and friend died.
The fine weather had made Cassandra's mood even better; the young woman of twenty-six, with a well-proportioned body and with an angel-like face, is about to meet the man that her parents wanted to be her husband. She did disagree or dislike the idea, for her, marriage is just a business that does not involve any emotions, though, for her family - it was a big deal. Unlike her cousin who was engaged with the man she loved, Cassandra has never fallen in love yet, despite her age. She had been busy with her career, and she always wanted to be independent, no matter what. Being an heiress like her cousin, many young men who came from rich families have been wooing her, wanting to win her heart, but none of them succeeded, even the one whom she was supposed to marry. She was almost near the parking area when the phone rang, it was her mom who was already waiting for her at the restaurant, together with her future husband. "I am coming, mom!
Living alone in an apartment is not a difficult one for Atty. Immanuel Gonzales; got used to it ever since his foster father died of a heart attack a few years back. He has been a top-notched lawyer, most sought after by the wealthy and powerful. With his looks and charisma, most of his clients took a liking to him. Some of them were amazed how this man of twenty-seven had made a big impact in the law industry. He had a high rating of success, notwithstanding the case. Mostly, he had clients who were accused of fraud, tax evasion, and even murder. One such case was that of Mr. Ernesto Lopez, a rich oil magnate and airlines owner who was accused of killing his own wife so he could marry his own lover. He hired Atty. Gonzales, as per the recommendation of his former client who was a friend of the suspect. Their first meeting did not as intended by both parties as they did not appear to trust each other. When he was being ques
The following day, Cassandra, with her mother, went to a boutique to check on a dress that she is going to wear on her wedding day. Her mom would like to see her wear the most expensive and most elegant dress ever worn by any other brides. Amelia was busy talking to the designer when she noticed her daughter who was keeping her silence, quietly waiting for her mom on the corner, watching her conversing with the designer. She called her daughter to discuss with them the design she wants, specifically the color of the dress that she would like to wear. Her daughter replied by saying, "Mom, whatever you want me to wear is okay with me, you have a good taste in fashion. It doesn't matter which one, you could decide on my behalf." "Well, it seemed like I will be the one to decide my daughter's wedding dress. Miss Lyn, could you please show us the latest trend in wedding fashion? I would like to see her wear the most fabulous gown that
It has been several weeks since the lawyer and the heiress started their secret relationship. Their refuge was a small house outside the city where they built their dreams together; the place where only themselves exists. Both knew that it would be hard for Cassandra's family to accept the lawyer because of his poor background. One night, while they were talking about their respective work at their offices, Imman mentioned about his father, who was a convicted criminal. The heiress was surprised and a bit disappointed but she tried to hide it from her lover, not wanting any misunderstanding to come between them. At first, she thought that she could not go on with their relationship but she changed her mind when she was introduced to the poor old man. One sunny morning, the lawyer brought her to his father's abode. They were welcomed wholeheartedly by the old man, which in return, was given hugs and kisses by the couple. The
As expected, Jane's wedding was a success. It was attended by wealthy businessmen and personalities belonging to their social circle. Present also were their friends and relatives from both families. Her cousin, who was her maid of honor looked amazingly gorgeous that day, making lots of men turn their heads. Some guests were gutsy enough to compare the cousins where the bride failed in comparison with her cousin. Nonetheless, the atmosphere created was good enough to make the wedding one of the finest ever held during that year. A toast was given to the couple hoping for a blissful life together. Most of the guests stayed and enjoyed the magnificent food and wine that were served to them. Chicken dishes, beluga caviar, lobster, seafood of different varieties, steaks were some of the food that was served to the visitors. The newlyweds were a picture of happiness throughout the ceremony, being given blessings and toasts on all corners of the hall. "Lo
Two weeks before the anticipated wedding of Cassandra and Greg, Amelia had never been busy as before. She had been checking on the guests' list, the reception area which will be held at a luxurious hotel, the restaurant, the souvenirs, the ten-foot-tall cake, and other things that would definitely be needed for a successful wedding. She even booked a flight to an island country for the couple where they are going to spend their honeymoon. All seemed to run smoothly as she intends to. For her, only a blissful life is waiting for her only daughter - the one thing that matters to her. She was surprised when she received a call from her daughter, wanting to talk to her. They agreed to meet after working hours at their favorite restaurant. Dressed in a simple black and white shirt paired with dark grey pants and wearing sneakers, Cassandra looked very pretty and gorgeous but something seemed to bother her mother because her eyes looked sad and there was s
As a young and talented lawyer, Imman made friends with a lot of his clients including Mr. Daniel Ruiz, hotel and restaurant magnate. He even employed him as his family's personal attorney. Impressed by his court trial records, the chairman made known to the lawyer that he wanted to set him up with his own daughter, which, he politely declined, reminding him that personal matters must not be entwined with business matters. Chairman Ruiz, a sturdy and chubby middle-aged man of fifty-two, who had been balding since two years ago, just laughed every time the lawyer declined his offer of marrying his daughter. He believed that the young man is perfect for his only child and that having him as a son-in-law would help him more in running the company, though, in one of their conversations, the attorney already mentioned that he had come from a poor family and his father was an ex-convict. The chairman, who, on that occasion was a little tipsy, told the lawy
The wedding of Imman and Daniella was attended by wealthy businessmen, most of them came from the hotel and resorts industry. Even the chairman of the Agustin Food and Beverages Company was invited along with his wife and niece who was heavy with her first child. Congratulations were given to the couple, wishing them the best of luck and happiness in their marriage. Imman greeted all the guests warmly, even the father of his former girlfriend. "I'm glad you are enjoying the party, sir! It's been a while since I saw you. Let me introduce you personally to my wife." Daniella, who was busy entertaining other visitors was signaled by her husband to come and greet one of their guests, which, none other than chairman Agustin, who behaved extremely well in front of the bride, but when they were left alone, he whispered to the lawyer, "My daughter is way prettier than her, but I could not blame you for marrying her, she is damned r
Imman went inside the kitchen unnoticed by his former mistress. He held her waist from behind and hugged her tightly. Ella was startled, turned around, and saw the handsome features of the lawyer. "Imman, I didn't see you coming..." He was pressing her hard to the wall, kissing her forehead, her lips, then on her neck. He stopped when he heard little footsteps coming from behind, then he heard a little boy calling him, incessantly. "Daddy, daddy! Where are you!' the boy was running hard and gasping for breath. When he saw his father, he pulled his arms and said. "Dad, please stay with me in the playroom, mom is still cooking, so we could stay play...then later please help me choose what to bring for my older siblings tomorrow...come now, please!" He did not resist his son's demand and let him be pulled away from his mother. Ella grinned at her son who is so comfortable being with his father. She knows later on that Imman will stay with her the whole
Two weeks before Christmas, Imman's children have already prepared their gifts for their father and their grandparents on both sides. They also bought gifts for the little one who is now five years old and is very much excited to see his mother again who will spend the vacation with them. Imman, as usual, is not in the good mood. It will be the third time that he will spend the holiday without his wife. "Grandpa, can you please help me put these little socks on the Christmas tree, please? Mom will come and she will put something inside my socks, I know that!" said his grandson whose eyes were the same as his and all of his other children. He lifted him and kissed his cheeks before putting him down on the floor. "Thank you, grandpa! I'm going to dad and ask him to give me more socks so I can have more gifts from uncle and auntie!" the boy ran away shouting the name of the twins. If only you are here, Cassandra, then life cou
The day of the wedding has arrived. The church was decorated with an abundance amount of flowers of different species. Guests have come to witness the union of two people who have met fifteen years ago but only had the chance to pursue their dream of becoming that fateful today. Isabella looks very pretty as one of the flower girls while her twin brother, the ring bearer was the cutest boy in the crowd. Even Elijah, his father's best man, looks so happy to realize the dream of his parents. Now they could properly be called a family and be with his father every day. When he first saw his father on the beach, he started to believe that his parents will stay together, and after the accident that he was involved in, it became real. They have planned their wedding but his dad goes missing and marries someone else. His mother did not know that he cried a lot when his father got lost at the sea. At a very young age, he had to care for his mother who was als
Arriving home with the twins, Cassandra already saw the lawyer's car outside their mansion. He was already inside, waiting for them. Her mother, Amelia was the one who opened the door for him(she did not work that day because of her migraine). It was a relief to see her mother home and she decided to talk to her later on when the lawyer goes home. The children were delighted to see their father waiting for them. They kissed him both and his young daughter pulled him to the living room, wanting to play with him after they changed their school uniforms but their mom told them that she wanted to talk to their dad in the garden and they should finish their homework first before spending time with their dad. "But mom, can you please give us snacks? You are so quiet in the car that I could not tell you that I'm starving!" said Isabella as she keeps on observing her mother's sad face. "Of course, dear! Please go to the bath
Ella called the next day to inquire about his injuries and calmly told him that he is in his apartment and taking a rest. "You don't have to worry, Ella, the doctor said I'm okay. How about you? Did you sleep well? Is the baby awake now? I wished I could come to your mansion today but I could not, my whole body is aching a little..." the attorney said to her. "I could come and visit you, I will bring our son with me if you want. What do you think, darling? If you don't want to see me, it's okay, I will just call you every hour to check on you." "You can come and cook for me, Ella! Today may be the last day that we could be together, after that, I could not promise that I could even visit my son in your mansion..." there was sadness in his voice which was felt by his mistress but she tried to ignore it. "I will come now, darling! I will take care of you as much as I want
Ella was awakened by the cries of her son the following morning. She hurriedly took him from the crib and quickly breastfed him. His tears were all over his face and his mother wiped them away. "I'm so sorry dear, mom slept well and forgot that she has a baby to feed..." After sucking milk from his mother, the infant smiled at her which made his mother very ecstatic and happy. She placed him on his crib and put a pacifier on his little mouth. She was about to go to the bathroom when she heard her phone ring and saw that Imman tried to call her twenty times last night. The person who is calling her is the lawyer. She immediately answered her phone and was asked by the attorney why she did not talk to him yesterday evening. "I'm sorry, darling, I slept early! Maybe because I got so tired yesterday, do not worry about me, okay?" she replied while looking at her infant who was playing by himself. "I will come tonight, Cassandra
Just after thirty minutes, a car stopped in front of the Schweitzer's mansion - it was Cassandra's. She was wearing a dress that vividly show her hourglass figure and she had a little make-up on her face. It was the nurse who opened the door for her and told her to come inside but before she even made one step inside, she confronted the nurse and pushed her making her stumble on the floor. "Are you the one who hit my child, huh?" she asked, with her eyes full of anger. "How dare someone like you, hurt my kid! As far as I know, you are the nurse who is in charge of the infant, and I bet you have already hit him too without his mother seeing it" she added. Cassandra is already inside the mansion and heard the voices of the twins coming in her direction. "We are not yet done, nurse! You'll see whom you are dealing with!" The nurse got up and pushed Cassandra on the wall, which shocked the heiress terribly. "I'm not afraid of you, ma'am! Your daughter sh
The night before Imman took his children to his mistress, he called his eldest son to join him in the garden and asked him to spare some time for him. His mother was also there, sitting beside the lawyer. Their teenage son was smiling as he approached his parents. The couple grinned back and commanded him to sit between them. "Why do you want to talk to me, dad? I have been doing great at school and I don't have any problems with my siblings and tomorrow, I'll see the little one again, what is this all about dad?" the teenager was perplexed for he had seen no reason why his father, along with his mother had to talk to him alone. "Son," the attorney said. "Dani told me that you broke up with Amanda, is it true?" his son's head bowed down in shame, not wanting to reply to his father's question. "It is true, then. Well, you are still young to even have a serious relationship with Amanda but you can still be friends with her right?" he asked the young man agai
At the attorney's law firm, one visitor has come whom he did not expect at all. It was his former wife - Daniella. She greeted him with a kiss on his cheeks and hugged him lightly, the way friends do when they meet. "How are you Imman? Is everything ready for the wedding next week?" asked the ex-wife. "I'm fine, Dani! How about you? I heard you are dating the CEO of the Aguirre Corporation, I hope that you'll marry him someday." He chuckled as he said this to his ex-wife who only smiled at him. Then she replied, "It's not true, Imman. We are friends and the one whom he is dating is also a friend of mine" "Your dad told me the other day. I do hope that you'll marry someday and forget me, Dani, you deserved to be happy..." Imman said seriously. They were sitting in front of each other, barely talking but when Daniella's eyes met his, an old feeling rekindled again on the woman's side, which didn't even go even after the
