(Harper’s POV)
Oh my Goddess, oh my goddess. I was currently holding hands with Colton Stokes, and he was my fated mate. I shyly looked up into his eyes through my lashes and saw that he was watching me intensely, and I immediately blushed at the look in his eyes and looked away again. I heard him chuckle, and I blushed even more.
Alpha Daniel finished talking, and everyone clapped, and I had to break contact with Colton’s hand so I could clap too. Not that I remembered anything the Alpha had just said. The clapping died down, and I felt sparks on my back as Colton placed his hand on me and began to guide me through the crowd quickly. I made an attempt to look back to see Katie but noticed that she was preoccupied with talking to Damien.
We left the room. Colton grabbed my hand and pulled me into the gardens and around the side of the building. Once we were around the corner, he spun me around to face him and backed me up against a wall. He buried his face into my hair, his nose grazing my neck, and took a deep breath, sending shivers down my spine.
He growled in appreciation and whispered, “MINE!” and began kissing down my neck. I gasped and held on to his arm. I felt a heat in my stomach when his teeth grazed the spot on the crook of my neck, and my breathing became shallow. Colton lifted his head, and he had a lazy smile on his face.
“Wow, Strawberries, you smell amazing.” He hooked his finger under my chin and lifted my head to meet his eyes. From this close, I could see that his eyes were hazel, and there were flecks of gold in them. I took the time to really look at him. I mean, I had seen him from afar but never this close before. He had a soft face that didn’t have any sharp features, apart from the slight point to his chin. He had a heavy stubble, and his medium brown hair was shaved short at the sides but then longer on top, and it was slicked back. From what I can see, his body was basically that of a Greek god, but then he was a future Beta, so it was in his genes to be beautiful.
I trailed my hand down his clothed chest over his black shirt, and I felt his hard toned muscles, and my hand continued down as I felt his eight pack under my fingers. My hands ended up at the line where his shirt disappeared into his tailored black trousers, and I hovered there. Suddenly I felt very hot, and that heat in my stomach was getting warmer. I involuntarily bit my lip as I noticed a bulge in his trousers.
“See something you like, Strawberries?” His voice sounded husky as he watched me. I looked into his eyes, which seemed to have more gold in them from a few minutes before.
I tried to compose myself. “Erm….”
Shit. Think, Harper.
“Erm…”
Oh crap, I was struggling to think of, well... words at all.
“What’s on your mind, Strawberries?” he teased. He knew what was on my mind. It was written all over my face.
“Why do you call me Strawberries?” I asked, and he grinned and buried his head in my neck again and took a deep breath again, and then nibbled my ear before whispering, “It’s what you smell like to me. Strawberries.” It felt like electric currents were running down my body, and I gasped.
“You smell like beautiful juicy ripe red strawberries.” And then he was in front of me, and his lips were so close to mine, his voice was a low husky tone again.
“I wonder if you taste like them.” He closed the gap and pushed his mouth against mine. His lips felt as soft as they looked as they pushed against mine. His hands glided to my hips, and he pulled me towards him, so I was flush against him. I gasped into his mouth, and he took the invitation and plunged his tongue into my mouth, and the kiss deepened. I put my arms around his neck, and he pushed me against the wall, not breaking contact with my mouth or body.
The heat in my stomach dropped, and something lower down awoke in me. He finally broke apart from me just as I started to wonder if you could die from kissing and if it was a worthy way to go. We were both breathing heavily and just looking at each other.
He looked at me with a heated expression. “As much as you match the name strawberries, I would like to know the name of my little mate,” he breathed.
“Oh!” I gasped, “it’s Harper,”
“Well, nice to meet you, Harper. My name is Colton.”
I nodded, “I know,” and then blushed because I wondered if I sounded like a stalker .“I mean, that you are our future Beta, so everyone knows who you are.” I felt very hot again. “But me, I’m not Beta, or any rank really, so I’m not known, really.”
He watched me with an amused look while I rambled on before he placed a rough finger on my lips to shush me.
“Calm down, sweetheart.” He chuckled. “No need to be so nervous.” I focused on getting my breathing back in control while he rubbed circles on my hand with his thumb again.
When I felt a little more composed, I smiled at him.
“Thank you,” I said, and he smiled in return and placed a soft kiss on my forehead.
“Should we go back to the party?” I asked
He growled. “I’d rather not,” he said. “I’ve just found my fated mate after three years of looking, and the last thing I want to do is to take her back into a room full of sex-starved unmated werewolves.” He looked me up and down with a look that made me want to clench my legs closed. “Especially when she looks this good.” Then he leaned in closer. “And when I can smell the amazing scent of her arousal.” I blushed again, and he chuckled.
“I’m a Beta love,” he said, and I quirked my eyebrows. “Alphas and Betas tend to run on heightened senses and urges, including the possessive nature of a newly acquired mate, and I suspect if we went back in there, I would rip some guy’s head off for just glancing at what is Mine.” That last word rumbled into a growl, and I nodded, trying to avoid the strong urges that my own body was expressing down below.
“We... erm, we could take a walk,” I suggested, and he smiled
“Could we head towards somewhere more private so we can get to know each other,” he asked with a glint in his eye. “I mean, I would take you to my room, but there is a big party downstairs, so not ideal for talking.”
“Oh, yeah,” I beamed. “My house is about twenty minutes away on foot.”
“Perfect, lead the way, Strawberries.” He linked his fingers in mine, and we started walking to the front of the house and down the drive.
We talked about so many things as we walked. I told him about my family. He knew of my dad and knew Tommy. We talked about his family, which was basically him and his parents. We also talked about hobbies, music, and TV. By the time we reached my house, I felt like I had learned a lot about him and knew he had learned a lot about me.
I let us in through the front door and switched on the light. Colton stood by the door, looking nervous. I looked at him, puzzled.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, taking his hand
He smiled and looked down at my hand, and then when he looked back up at me, his eyes were pure gold, and there was a look of pure raw heat.
He growled before saying, “I am trying to be a gentleman here.” He started to walk me into the wall behind me and both his arms at either side of me, trapping me between his hard body and the wall. “I don’t know if I can control myself around you,” I gulped and tried to suppress a moan.
“Then don’t control yourself,” I whispered. “We are mates, aren’t we? It’s only natural, so -”
His breathing became more ragged the more I talked, and he crashed his lips down onto mine, interrupting what I was saying.
“Bedroom,” he gasped as he broke contact. I pointed up the stairs, and he growled and smashed his lips to mine once more, claiming them as his, and lifted me easily as I wrapped my legs around his waist, and he carried me up the stairs to claim my body too.
(Harper’s POV) Colton crashed into my bedroom door, pressing me against it. His mouth descended on my neck and sucked on the spot where he would soon leave his mark, right in the crook where my neck met my shoulder. The feel of it sent tingles through my body and turned some heat on inside my lower regions. I let go of him enough to reach around and grab my door handle. It flew open as I turned the handle, and we fell into the bedroom. We landed on the floor, with him on top of me and my legs still around him. “Ow!” I exclaimed as pain laced through my back from the impact, and Colton looked up, shocked. “Shit, Strawberries, sorry.” He pulled himself off
(Harper’s POV)I screamed again, the pain too much to bear as tears streamed down my face. I tried to pull away, but Colton held me tight as he continued to rub circles on my nub while rubbing his hard member against my back. Another wave of pleasure chased the pain around my body. Both sensations seemed to run on endless cycles as I cried out and gripped the sheets that covered us.“That’s it, baby girl,” Colton grunted against my ear “Ride it through,” before he grunted again and I felt warm liquid shoot up my back as he came again. He slowed to a stop as he leaned against me, panting.I began to cry as I felt his lips graze my neck once more, and he wrapped his arms around me, whispering shushing sounds in my ear
(Tommy’s POV)My car screeched into the parking lot of the pack house and I jumped out. I was furious; I wanted to find that little shit and rip him apart. I could hear the music of the party still going. These things normally lasted till past daylight. I was normally one of the last ones left standing, or if I was in bed, certainly wasn’t sleeping. But not this time. Katie had come looking for me, telling me she couldn’t find Harper, and she was worried. I played it down and told her I would look for Harper and to go have fun. That was when she pouted and mentioned something about Damien. She said how he was flirting with her until one of his friends came over and mentioned Colton had bagged that girl, and then he suddenly wasn’t interested. She was very upset about it, but I told her she had a lu
(Harper’s POV)I looked at the ring on my finger, and then back round the room. Tommy had the look of fury on his face. Everyone else was smiling and chatting. Colton was running his hand up and down my arm, and the sparks were making it hard to think straight.I was engaged! To Colton Stokes! At any other time this might have been one of those dream come true moments. Hell, this time yesterday I might have thought that this was my dream come true. But now circumstances were different, very different. I took a step away from Colton and shook my head.“But he rejected me,” I whispered. The Alpha stopped talking and looked directly at me, then I realised my father and the Beta had stopped talking too, and were also looking at me.“What did you say, Harper?” the Alpha asked, his tone oozing with authority. I couldn’t help but bit on the side of my lip. The Alpha was
(Harper’s POV) Everyone looked up as we walked into the dining kitchen. My mum’s eyes zero’d in on Colton’s hand wrapped around mine and grinned. I was thankful to see that Tommy hadn’t left the house and was sitting in the corner of the room. He was glaring at Colton as soon as we walked into the room, but had refused to meet my eyes. The Alpha stood up and smiled “Here they are,” he said cheerfully “Come take a seat my dear, it is your birthday after all,” and then he held his chair out for me. Before I could sit down, though, Colton slid into the seat and then I let out a surprised yelp and he pulled me down onto his knee. He wrapped his arms around my stomach and gently kissed my shoulder before looking around at everyone. “I thought I would save a seat for someone else,” h
(Harper’s POV)I sat on the floor, not moving. If I moved, then I would have to pack and once I had packed then…I didn’t want to move to the pack house; I had lived here in this house my whole life. Even when I go to University in September, it will be a local one so that I can drive home every night and sleep in my bed.“Harper sweetie” I looked at Louise, who had kneeled down beside me and was rubbing my back. “We should get started on some packing” I shook my head.“I don’t want to,” I said, fresh tears welling up in my eyes and Louise pulled me into a hug.“I know sweetie, I hate to say it but I don’t think you have any choice right now” she pulled away and smiled “but plus side, we’ll be living together,” and I smiled back and nodded my head. Louise helped me up off the floor, and I tu
(Harper’s POV)Driving up towards the pack house felt a lot more daunting than it did 24 hours ago. It’s hard to think that this time yesterday I was so excited for the ball and finding my mate. And since then so much has happened. The house wasn’t lit up like last night, most of it was dark. This gave it an eerie feeling. As we drove over, Louise explained the basic layout. The ground floor was where the great hall was, as well as a pack common area and a couple of spare offices. The 1st floor was all the main offices and where the majority of the pack businesses were run from, then the 2nd floor had the entertainment centre and gym which was strictly for named and high ranked as well as important visiting guests, who also stayed on the 2nd floor. Third floor was shared by the Beta and Gamma families and top
(Harper’s POV)“What?” I ask in disbelief. Did I just hear Colton tell me I wasn’t allowed to go to university?“I said no!” he growled, “and that’s final.”“Whoa!” Louise exclaimed “She’s your mate, not your property, and she has been working for this for years” She was getting angry, and so was Colton. The pressure of being sat between the two was almost unbearable.“If you are worried about me going away, then I got accepted at Leeds University, it’s only an hour drive from here and I was planning on traveling to and from every day anyway” I smiled at him, hoping to smooth his fury. He just glares at me and tightens his hand on my thigh until his fingers dig in and I wince with the pain. He leans in close to me as I feel tears line my eyes.“I said no!” he said slowly over pronouncing every
Thank you for reading Beyond Beta's Rejection. This project started out so very different to where it ended. But I love the direction it took. As you can see, this part of the story is over, but there is so much more to tell. There will be a second book. I am in the process of mapping out and outlining now and I am hoping to start writing and releasing chapters in the first quarter of 2022. But for now I need to work on another project which you will soon likely see appear. Thank you once again for the time and money that you have spent of this labour of love of mine and I hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed writing it. I will be talking more abou this and other books in my fan group Aisling's Puzzle Pieces. I can't add links here but I am sure that if you search my name on certain sites then you will soon find it. Lastly I want to thank my e
(Harper’s POV)The next few days seemed filled with so much activity. Elias and I announced that we had completed the mate bond, and for the most part, people seemed happy. But I noticed both Drake and Tommy sharing a look that I tried to question later with Tommy. He continued to be evasive with me the whole time, but insisted that he was happy for us. Elias said that maybe I was imagining it, but I was sure there was something that they weren’t telling me.The Council swept into town for debriefing everyone after the battle. Elias was cleared of any suspicion and we heard that the sovereign had ordered a full sweep of every member of the Council to weed out any more Circle members. In private, Drake confirmed that he was in fact the Divine Warrior for the Immortal line and he, Harry and Aaron spent many hours poured over texts about the two
(Harper’s POV)The battle seemed to dissipate after I killed Nathaniel. I didn’t know if seeing me slaughter their feared leader with the angel blade scared them or if it was just good timing, but there was no more fighting. I looked around to see the courtyard, a mess of dead and wounded.“Harper?” I turned to see Tommy looking at me in disbelief.“Hey,” I said and shrugged. He grinned, tears down his face,“Fucking hell Harper,” he pulled me into a hug and I laughed, “Don’t ever do that to me again,”“I’ll do my best,” I said. He pulled me to arms’ length.“You look differ
(Harper’s POV)My eyes flew open as I woke up in the cells. I sat up and looked around, allowing my eyes to adjust to the low light after the brightness of the Neverplain. I looked down to see the angel blade still in my stomach. I inclined my head at it curiously. Was I meant to pull it out myself? Everything was beginning to blur for me. The Neverplain and my angel and the visit from Drake. Did Drake really visit? Or was that just my perverted imagination putting him there? And was he really also a Divine Warrior? There were a million questions running through my mind, some repeated, some serious, some stupid. It was like my mind was in overdrive and I couldn’t focus on one thing.I heard a chuckle to one side of me and looked towards the source.“Hello darling,” Marcus said from his perch
(Drake’s POV)I looked down at the werewolf in front of me in sympathy. I had heard many things about Elias Owens. I knew his family were allies of the order and also knew they had been ripped apart by the destructive Circle twenty or so years back. I even remembered Owen’s brief time at the Council. He had disappeared one night and then a couple of days later, I heard about the attack on his pack. I had no idea that he had a demon bloodline in him. He had hidden it well. And now here he was, cradling his dead lover. The sweet Harper. The beautiful woman who had risen in the ranks of the warriors with ease over the years. I was unsurprised by her progress as I watched her. I could tell at first sight who she was, or what she was. Her ethereal glow was unmistakable and would be recognised by others of our kind. I was almost surprised that she didn&rs
(Elias’ POV)My head was pounding as I woke up to the buzz of activity. I sat up, looking around to see that I was laid in one of the booths at Howlers. The room was filled with council warriors, as well as some of my own. I looked around for the centre of the activity and saw the vampire that had tried to take Harper from me.Then it hit me again. Harper. My beautiful mate was dead. I felt like I couldn’t breathe all over again as a single tear slipped down my cheek. The rage followed and with it the stirring of the demon inside me.“Kill,” it said. The guttural voice felt raw with hatred. I agreed with what he said. I had to find Nathaniel and rip him apart limb from limb. I would scatter his remains across the town and the ground would be soaked with his blood. I would make him
(Colton’s POV)I was dragged from the cells by two or three warriors, still hearing the painful screams of the woman I loved. I tried to fight, but I heard Nathaniel instruct them to drag me back to the pack house. I was thrown into the Alpha’s office as Nathaniel strode in, instructing various warriors to surround the house and be on guard. Louise was in the corner crying, her makeup streaming down her face. I glanced over and she looked up at me. Despite all the hatred, all that I had done to her, I knew that in this moment we were both mourning someone we loved. I saw that acknowledgement in her eyes.Nathaniel sat at the desk and began to speak but he was interrupted by the sound of a mournful howl, one so powerful it could be heard all the way from the cells to where we were now. One so painful that it meant only one thing. Immediately, t
(Elias’ POV)***Earlier in the Day***The last few days had been terrible. I had been in constant battle with whatever this thing was inside of me. The rage inside me at seeing the man responsible for my sister’s death had been like a drug to the monster, and I had spent much of the time in the back of my own mind. All I was able to do was to go over the events that had just happened. Finding out that Harper was a member of the Council was a shock. But then she mentioned that name, Nathaniel. There was no way that the man she thought could help me was the same man I had spent so many years hunting for. I stopped struggling against the warriors then. Either Harpers Nathaniel was going to help sort this epic misunderstanding out or…Seeing his face was enough to unleash the monster. The man I had be
(Harper’s POV) I looked over to see Colton standing there in a black suit and black tie. Despite everything that had happened between us, I couldn’t deny that he looked good in the suit. He moved into the room and kissed his mother on the cheek before holding his hand out to me. I looked at the hand, not wanting to take it. Colton sighed and then nodded to two warriors dressed in all black. They both advanced on Louise, and she backed away. “My uncle was clear, you are both to be escorted this evening,” Colton said, his face blank, “It can be done the civil way, or the not so civil way and I saw one of the warriors handling what looked like a collar and lead. “Fine,” I Snapped and took Colton’s hand, “But if he tries to put that on my friend, I will use it to strangle him with.” the warrior stopped an
