After the moment Danyel met Yasvie, he became a very different man from who he was before. All his thoughts changed. The way he spoke, the gestures he made while talking…everything. He was turning into a soft young man rather than a tough warrior; who he used to be and who he was expected to be.
As for some times, Danyel totally forgot who he was. In his thoughts, Yasvie was already his. He did not want to research her background or anything else, he just wanted her company. No one, not even Danyel thought he would fall that much madly in love.
As for Yasvie, she was having weird feelings too.
While working at the laundry, she could not stop recalling that moment she shared with the Crown Prince. Yasvie felt like she was seeing the prince’s face everywhere and sometimes found herself smiling for no reason; exactly the symptoms of Love.
But she feared to let her feelings grow because it was the freaking crown prince that she was thinking about!!!!
Even an ordinary palace guard would be considered off-limits for a water maid. The Crown Prince? Way out of her league.
But she could not help constantly feeling that the Crown prince was treating her in a special way.
“Maybe he was just being nice to me. Maybe he treats everyone else that way.” Yasvie muttered to herself, avoiding her inner voice.
Miranda- the harp player felt that Yasvie was acting weird. She immediately understood the cause of Yasvie’s change. Actually, anyone could have guessed it if studied her for two minutes straight. While preparing the instruments to perform, Yasvie glanced numerous times at the path which Danyel came on last night.
“Give up on your thoughts, silly girl. One praise from the crown prince and now you’ve forgotten who you are.” Miranda said angrily.
Yasvie had a quick blush, realizing that her thoughts were revealed. She understood that her hopes were ridiculous.
“For helpless people like us, it is best to not have any big hopes because they are always going to lose. Dreams and goals are for big people, we are here just to help them.” Miranda continued.
“Whoa! You are such a negative person! I am sorry Senior, I can’t agree with you. My grandmother always said ‘Anyone can be anything if they have courage.’ And I stand by that.” Din uttered confidently.
“How dare you?! Anyone can be anything? Huh… So Yasvie can marry the crown prince? Oh, she can be a concubine, of course.” Miranda yelled.
“Yes, look at Lady Arya. She was a water maid too. Now she has everything.” Din argued.
“No Din. That’s how everyone sees it. Servants and silk dresses and all. But being a concubine is the worst thing that could happen to a woman. She might receive all…but respect. Everybody bows and speaks politely to her…but behind her back, everybody laughs. A concubine is a varnished name for a mistress after all, isn’t it?” Miranda’s voice softened.
Din was speechless.
Yasvie wondered how a single glance led to a deep conversation. They started performing. No sign of the prince.
In the middle of the singing, Yasvie saw someone waving at her, far from the chambers.
It was the crown prince!!!!
He had managed to find a perfect spot to look at Yasvie without being caught by others.
Seeing him, Yasvie started to feel various things at once. Miranda was wrong. The prince came for real!!! Yasvie took his return as a confirmation that their feelings were mutual.
“It’s all clear. Oh my god, he likes me!!!” Yasvie’s inner voice shouted happily.
But she felt insecure when she recalled Miranda’s words about concubines. There was no way that a water maid could become the empress consort. If the prince liked her, her destiny would be to become a concubine and lead a very unhappy life. Yasvie’s smile faded.
Weeks passed. Danyel did not miss any evening and kept sneaking into the concubines’ garden. Unknowingly, that became his topmost concentration.
Watching from the distance, Danyel admired Yasvie’s beauty.
Her navy blue and turquoise uniform made her look like a goddess, unlike other thousands of water maids he had ever seen. He preferred those long sleeves rolled up which showed her hardworking, yet charming hands. He did not care that her knee-length blue skirt was a bit dirty all the time. Danyel always saw her hair in a simple braid, which was a part of her uniform.
One day, Danyel got the chance to catch up with Yasvie in private. What a lucky day!
He hid near the water maids’ quarters and waited for Yasvie to finish her work for the day and return. When the time came, he grabbed Yasvie from her wrist and gave her a sign to be quiet.
“Yasvie, I wanted to talk to you badly. Can we get some time?” Danyel whispered.
Yasvie was stunned. She could not believe that the crown prince had struggled just to speak with her. She began to feel important.
“Yes, your imperial highness,” Yasvie said in horror, shivering. She still had not recovered from the instant panic attack which Danyel caused.
“First, you don’t have to speak to me that way. Just call me Danyel, alright?”
“How can I ever do that, sire?!”
“It’s a command. Only when there is no one else around.”
Danyel had understood the keyword; command.
“What I wanted to tell you was…I think I…I…I think I love you. From the moment I saw you, I could not get you out of my mind.” Danyel admitted.
Yasvie could not think of a proper reply. Though she had feelings for him and knew that the prince had too, she never prepared herself for such a moment.
Inside her head, Miranda’s words echoed. But…what if he was different? He was different from every other royal in every way. So, why could not he be different in that too? Yasvie’s heart wanted her to trust the Crown Prince and tell him about her feelings, while her head warned her with Miranda’s curse-like statement.
After a quick battle, her heart won.
“I was feeling the same way your imperial…uh…Danyel.” Yasvie wondered how fearless she was to say it. She had never acted that way before, never.
Danyel felt extremely joyous. That was too good to be true; love at first sight, directly responded ask-out… Danyel felt like the whole world was revolving around him, as always.
After chattering for a few minutes, they agreed to meet each other at the same place, same time, every day.
Neither Danyel nor Yasvie could sleep that day. They were dreaming…awake.

Emperor Narendra was waiting for his royal messengers to return, who went to represent Hesmia and explain its decisions to the annual council of all kingdoms and empires.
In the latest session, the council was analyzing the recently occurred security problem at the Hesmia-Lisdonia boundary. Even though both emperors agreed to put an equal amount of soldiers at their boundaries, Emperor Narendra secretly plotted to increase the number of soldiers and invade Lisdonia. Before it was brought into action, Lisdonian spies discovered the plan and complained to the highest council with captured Hesmian soldiers as evidence. Hesmia was ordered to present a proper explanation and the council was to decide the fine which Hesmia had to pay to Lisdonia for breaking a royal vow.
Emperor Narendra was eagerly waiting to know what happened there, his heartbeat fastened when he saw the messengers enter the great hall.
“What happened, Bertillon?” the Emperor asked impatiently.
“Your Majesty, the council did not accept our explanation. They had strong evidence, our own soldiers. So the coun…”
“The fine, how much?” Emperor Narendra interrupted.
“Fifty thousand Semiis…”
Emperor Narendra interrupted again with a relieving sigh.
“…per month for a year.” Bertillon completed.
Narendra’s expression changed.
“What? Oh, we’ll have to increase the taxes.”
What a great ruler to make the people suffer for his fault!
“Did all the kingdoms and empires stand with Lisdonia?” the Emperor was curious.
“One kingdom asked the council to reconsider the decision and stated that we should be given a second chance. The council did not listen.”
“What was that kingdom? They shall be rewarded and the others will have to pay.” The Emperor said in a cunning way.
“It was Werto, your Majesty. A small kingdom near Aloma Mountains.”
“I know that one. One of my cousins married its king. How should we reward them?”
“I suggest a royal marriage, your majesty. Their support meant a lot that time, though nothing happened.” Bertillon stated.
“Oh, yes Bertillon. We will get the future empress consort from Werto. We cannot trust any other kingdom. Find out if the Wertese king has a daughter of the eligible age.” The emperor ordered.
Though Bertillon agreed, some of the aristocrats in the Hesmian royal council who wished to make their daughters the crown princess tried to stop it.
But the emperor suddenly said, “Dismissed.”
It meant that it was the final decision and the others’ opinions were unnecessary.

Danyel heard the rumors that he was going to be married to a complete stranger from a faraway kingdom, as a reward. He was furious.
Well, if that happened before meeting Yasvie, Danyel would calmly obey and do as ordered. But after the recent events, he could not think of another woman at any cost. Yasvie had become his entire life.
Danyel went to see his father.
“Your Majesty, is it true that you have arranged a marriage for me, as a reward for something?” Danyel asked politely.
“Yes, my son. You are at the age which I married your mother. Now it is your time.”
“But father, I don’t even know anything about that person. How can I allow myself to be married to a stranger? And her kingdom is not familiar either.” Danyel argued.
“Werto is located far away. But we have our blood in there. My cousin Artha was its queen once. And she’s the mother of your future wife. Winddane, tell the prince what you’ve found about her.”
“Your Imperial Highness, Princess Gianna is the first and the only daughter of King Edgar of Werto. The princess and her mother- Queen Artha were deposed by the king several years ago. Therefore the princess has lived a secret ordinary life in the island of Stri…”
Danyel interrupted,
“Father, what if we make a difference in our marriage system? Instead of exchanging princesses to strengthen the bonds between kingdoms, what if we choose a girl from the public and get closer to the people that we rule?"
The Great hall filled with laughter.
“What do you mean? Like a girl from a middle-class family?” The emperor asked, laughing.
“Even a girl from the bottom line will be fine, like a water maid?” Danyel answered.
“Oh my son, I never thought you would say such a silly thing. A water maid to be the empress consort? You are just joking, right? I didn’t have a good laugh for years.” Emperor Narendra could not stop his laugh.
Knowing that his wish was not going to fulfill that way, Danyel said,
“Of course I am joking father. I will obey any decision your majesty takes. I am glad to make your majesty laugh.”
But inside, he was thinking of a plan to get rid of it.
********************************
“So this is it. This is where we part, isn’t it, sire?” Yasvie broke into tears.
“No way, Yasvie. We won’t part until death. This princess Fiona…uh, whoever is not going to survive here. I will make sure she won’t marry me. Those princesses in frolicking dresses are so easy to defeat. I am sure this one is going to be an ugly, weak, annoying freak.” Danyel said in disgust.
He knew nothing about the person that he was speaking about.
Though she was born as the first child of King Edgar, Gianna’s life was quite different from a princess’. King Edgar was a sexist. He always saw women as children-makers and never reckoned that a queen should rule Werto. When he was the crown prince, he had the rare opportunity of marrying a Hesmian princess, which seemed quite impossible for someone like him; a not-so-handsome, nor-very-intelligent prince from a small kingdom. Then-princess Artha saw him when he visited Hesmia as a messenger. She immediately started having a crush on him, which made no sense because Edgar was not much attractive. Maybe it was just her destiny. She secretly followed Edgar everywhere and decided that she loved him. Princess Artha had no idea about Edgar’s hidden personality. She had fallen for the fake nice version of him, which he maintained with extra effort. The princess directly requested permission to marry him from then ruler- Emperor Dheema who
Gianna hated palanquins. She thought it was a shame to put her weight on someone else’s shoulders. Though she asked for a horse, Edgar denied it saying it does not match for a girl to travel on a horse. He had no idea how good Gianna was at horse riding. After she came out of the palanquin, Gianna gazed at the Hesmian palace which was bigger than any other buildings she had ever seen. On the other hand, Danyel was trying to recall the weird dream he had last night. This time he saw the brightest sun anyone could ever imagine. It was burning endlessly and it reminded him of a fierce warrior. Not only the view, but he also felt the warmth. “The sun? Um… According to my knowledge, the sun represents a strong man, mostly a warrior, your imperial highness. Maybe this symbolizes an arrival of a man into your life.” the royal astrologer was confused too. “What??? A man?? No way!!!” Danyel screamed. A man into his life? Like a lover or something? He felt disg
Soon after Gianna left his chamber, Danyel realized that he was never this much angry at anyone else. Though he maintained a rather tough, warrior-like personality, he was nice to everyone just like his mother. But with Gianna, he completely lost his temper. “I should have been more patient.” Danyel thought. As the girl would not give up, Danyel thought to convince his father to stop this wedding. “Father, I have something important to tell. Can you spare me some time?” Danyel asked in a hurry when he met the Emperor in the royal garden. The emperor was on his way to a concubine’s chamber. “A private matter, I guess?” Narendra raised one eyebrow. “Yes, your majesty.” All the maids and guards left them alone in an instance as if they disappeared into the evening breeze. “Father, I don’t think this Wertese girl is suitable to be the crown princess. She…um… she doesn’t seem err…royal enough. Maybe because she did not grow up in a
After the royal council was dismissed, Danyel went to Gianna’s chamber. “How are you feeling now? Does that hurt a lot?” He asked keeping a neutral face, though he sympathized with Gianna. Gianna was guessing that Danyel was the one behind the assassination attempt. When he came to see her, which never happened before, Gianna confirmed her guess. This brat! How dare he try to kill her! “No, sire. That doesn’t. I can’t feel the pain because I’m overwhelmed by the satisfaction that I didn’t let those cowardly losers kill me. It increases when I see their hopeless faces.” Gianna uttered, looking Danyel in the eye. “Oh, but I expected you to be more intelligent. That assassination attempt was a warning. It was a message asking you to quit. I thought you understood that. This whole place is dangerous for you. This might be only the beginning.” Danyel said. “Why didn’t you just send a note with them? I don’t like hidden messages at all.” Gianna gave
Danyel was going on a morning walk with his spy, maids, and guards when he saw a partially huge mess in the swordsmanship-practice area. The trainees were gathered in a circle and cheering loudly. When Danyel reached there; curious to see who was fighting, he was shocked to see his friend Amell- one of the best fighters in the empire being knocked about by…Gianna. Wearing armor, she looked better than he had ever seen her before. Her hair was tucked into a bun which was wet from her sweat. She was smiling and panting at the same time. Some were cheering for Gianna while others were encouraging Amell to get up and fight back. However, Amell was lacking energy so he gave up. He got up and said, “You’re such a fighter, aren’t you? You defeated all the best guys here.” Gianna smiled. She too was a bit tired after wrestling with seven muscular guys without taking a break. She defeated all of them; one by one. Though she was tired, she wante
Upon hearing someone’s footsteps, Danyel took his sword and prepared for a fight. His hand was still hurting, but he did not care. Even though Yasvie wanted to stand by Danyel and help him, she was too afraid to go forward. She hid behind Danyel. Danyel tightened his grip on the sword. The sound of the footsteps was increasing. Using his predicting skills, Danyel identified that only one person was coming their way. But he could not feel relieved because he knew that only one extremely skilled Lisdonian soldier was enough to kill both of them. Every passing second felt so long as if they were experiencing a slow-motion mode. Fear, curiosity, anger…all the emotions were bursting at once. The moment came…and the person was………Gianna! Again wearing armor. “Oh, it’s you! You scared me to death!” Danyel let out a big sigh. “Thank god it wasn’t another Lisdonian killer!” Gianna uttered. She felt so relieved. She was looking for a place to sto
Yasvie felt relieved as Danyel finally agreed to leave Gianna and save their lives. But she was wrong. Danyel had had other plans. After running a few yards up on the hill, Danyel found a nearly-perfect hiding spot filled with bushes. He stopped. “Yasvie, hide near the bushes. I’ll get Gianna.” He already had the idea of going back. “Sire no! Please don’t…” Yasvie did not get the chance to complete her line. “Here, keep this dagger with you.” Danyel gave her a dagger and ran instantly. He opened the temple door with much effort only to see Gianna falling on her knees in front of his eyes after an enemy’s sword went across her chest and belly; giving her a HUGE cut. She was not wearing a metal chest shield. Gianna went unconscious instantly. But she had managed to kill five men of Remington’s army. Seeing this horrific incident increased Danyel’s energy. He swore to himself that he would kill each of them. Showing off the combat
Hesmia was being prepared to welcome the new era under the new emperor. Remington was overwhelmed by the idea of sitting on the throne which he always dreamt of. In his youth, he challenged Emperor Narendra, stating that he could defeat the emperor in any form of combat skills. The reason for his overconfidence was a prediction from an astrologer whom he met while training in the Elville Mountains. The astrologer said that Remington had a kingly aura and that he could definitely rule a widely-spread nation. Emperor Narendra was shocked at his loyal friend’s sudden change. However, the emperor managed to defeat Remington in every battle. Filled with shame and rage, Remington vanished into the evening breeze without a sign. Everyone thought that he might have either changed his identity or been committed to an asylum. Merikh Remington, who was meant to be a forgotten memory, had unexpectedly returned to Hesmia with the most dramatic entrance. Nevertheless, the astrolog
Bingi was fallen onto Amell’s lap because of his sudden grab. Their faces were really close. They almost kissed. Bingi’s heartbeat fastened rapidly that she feared it would explode. It was not the case for Amell. He pushed her away, which made Bingi end up in the river.“Darn it. You made all my clothes wet. Is this how you avenge for seeing your abs?” Bingi shouted.“Don’t tell anyone what you saw. I’ll kill you if you do.” Amell threatened while wearing his long shirt.Bingi was clueless. She neither knew what he meant nor saw the scar on his back.“What? Others… don’t know that you’ve got abs?” She asked in confusion.Amell did not believe her. He guessed that she was pretending.“Don’t act like a baby. I know you saw it. You can’t fool everyone with your baby face, kid.” He was still glaring.“Don’t call me a kid. I&r
Remington kept ignoring Nimue’s request to appoint Nimie as the crown princess. He made a strictly confidential document that said that in case of his death, Hesmia would become a state under Lisdonia. It was a secret deal between the Lisdonian emperor and Remington.Nimue was totally unsatisfied with how Remington ruled, not taking any of her advice or instructions. She already regretted bringing him to power. But she could not go against him and join Danyel either.Nimie frequently did what she usually does when she is bored; sitting in the royal stable with her stallion- Sword. When she was young, she used to practice horse riding with Danyel. The duo shared a lot of time together, trying various games. They were very ideal as siblings. But after he went to the Elville Mountains, their bond weakened. Nimie was constantly mistreated and ignored by Narendra.Danyel had no idea about her situation, but he did not care enough to send her letters. That way,
The island ‘Stri’ was founded two hundred and fifty years ago. It was founded by a group of women who were continuously abused by worldwide traditions. Location:- Stri is situated in the Taedian Ocean. It is located in the south of Yelonhta, in the east of Cholaivia, and the west of Jor islands. Founding:- 250 years ago, Ahnia Sietomaya, a depressed Lisdonian woman left her house, who decided that she could no longer tolerate being abused by her husband and his family. The reason behind their abusive behavior was that Ahnia gave birth to a girl, instead of a boy as the first child. Back then, noble families believed that having a daughter as the eldest child would bring misfortune to the family. Ahnia took her six months old daughter and left the mansion. She was determined to find a place where she could raise her daughter properly. When she walked on the road and passed many towns, people stared at her and gave her weird glances because back in those days, it was rare for a w
“Fine. I’ll stay for a while. I want to fight too. But if anything goes wrong, I’ll be heading home without any second thoughts.” Gianna said. Danyel smiled. Gianna ignored him. “If you’re so sure about it, I’ll leave Bingi with you. She knows the way.” Minnah said. “Alright, Emse Minnah. Let me give you a letter for my mother.” Then Gianna began to write on a piece of parchment with an inked feather. “Dear Mother, I am safe. Glad you were rescued. I’m staying with the Hesmians to help them. I’ll come when this is over. I love you. Ginger.” After bidding farewell to the three Strians, Gianna returned to the villa. Danyel was sitting on a bench outside Gianna’s room. “Ginger, it is.” He said, laughing. “Yes, that’s what they call me. You know, it has its own secret code. When I put ‘Ginger’ at the end of a letter, it means I’m safe. If I put ‘Gianna’, they’ll know I ain’t safe. But I never got to use it, actually.” “So… since it’s your nickname, shall I call you ‘Ginger’?” “
Amell looked in the direction in which he heard a woman sneeze. He prepared his sword and stepped forward. His soldiers followed him. “Who’s there?” Amell directed his sword at Bingi. Bingi had the sword but she did not want to raise her sword against her crush. For a moment, she was stuck in an imaginary world, seeing Amell so close. His not-so-messy black and short hair, tan skin, brave gaze, and the overall warrior vibe made Bingi feel weird sensations all over her body. She did not even notice that Amell was preparing to cut her down, suspecting her as Remington’s person. Fortunately, Minnah and the others came on time. They directed their swords at the Hesmians. Amell felt that some of those girls’ faces were familiar, but he was not sure. “Who are you? Why are you following us?” Amell asked. “We’re not following you. We’re Strians. We’re looking for princess Gianna. We heard that she’s with you.” Minnah stated confidently. Lia and Bingi glanced at each other because they kn
When Danyel re-entered the room, he saw that Gianna was slowly opening her eyes.“Gianna, you woke up?”It took some time for Gianna to recall what happened. When she was done recalling, she could not stop feeling endlessly furious. She pushed away Danyel’s hand.“DON’T TOUCH ME!” She shouted. Danyel was rather shocked.“Gianna, it’s okay. You’re with me now. Rej’s gone. So don’t be afraid.” Danyel began to pat her but Gianna pushed him again.“I said don’t touch me. Just piss off. I hate all men.”She was yet to recover from the shock she got because of Rej’s actions.“But, Gianna, we saved you right on the time. He couldn’t do anything to you.”That statement only caused the sudden increase in Gianna’s anger.“WHAT? Couldn’t do anything? Don’t you see all the wounds on my face and hands? He punched me. He kicked me. And the worst… HE KISSED ME!!” She cried in endless rage.Danyel looked down. He could not understand how to respond. Gianna tried to sit without Danyel’s help but faile
It took some time for Gianna to recall what happened. She looked around observantly to find any clue about where she was. After a moment, Rej entered the chamber. He seemed unnecessarily proud of his act.“Hey, sweetie. Remember how angry you became when I just winked at you? What about now? Who’s going to help you? Even you can’t help yourself. Oh! Your prince Danyel? Not even a chance! He sold you to me. He never wanted you. He even hated the idea of showing you as his wife.” Rej went on.He removed his upper clothes and showed off his muscular chest. Gianna felt disgusted. She turned her face away from him.“But, I… saw your beauty. I admired it. I was very kind towards you, but you didn’t accept my kindness. And now, this is the price you have to pay for it.” Laughing wickedly, he rubbed Gianna’s cheeks.Gianna kept glaring at him but did not waste her energy struggling. Inside, she was thinking o
Danyel returned to his chamber after talking with Rej. His face had darkened. After thinking for a moment, he went on and knocked on the door of Gianna’s chamber. Gianna opened it expecting the monks who treated her. She was rather surprised to see Danyel. “What is the matter, sire? Are we moving out today?” Gianna was curious. Danyel did not say anything for a moment. “Gianna, I-I have something to tell you.” What was he going to tell her out of the blue? Was he going to confess his love or something? Gianna wondered. “Go on, sire. I’m listening.” “Gianna… you know that… that we’re in a serious situation. We need help. We need a lot of help. Without it, we can’t do anything. But… people just do not help us for nothing. They expect… something in return.” Seeing the guilty expression on Danyel’s face, Gianna felt impatient. “Come to the point.” “Well, Gianna… you know, Rej… he did so many things for us. If it was
Minnah and the others approached the healing house after crossing the waterfall and passing the cave. Gladly, Lokhas was not there. Otherwise, he would have wondered how they knew the hidden entrance. The healing house had two parts. One was open to an urban area in Lisdonia and the hidden part was always kept a secret. It had a history of centuries. Only the most talented and trustworthy students got the opportunity just to know that a hidden part existed. One of them would become the next head of the healing house. The hidden part had served as a way of escaping to the Lisdonian royal family since it was built. Kvahiya was a bit surprised to see the Strians, but she expected someone to come for Gianna. “Minnie!” That was Minnah’s nickname among her seniors. “Emse Kvahiya, it’s glad to see you again. Did Ginger come here?” Minnah uttered while observing around. Minnah and Kvahiya continued the conversation in Hesmian because there was a risk that the
