it's over

Chapter fourteen (it's over)

Sapphire's Point of view:

'BAM!’ My head hit against the airbag. I breathed heavily, raising my gaze as I pushed back the airbag.

“Are you okay?!" Tyler asked. I nodded, sighing.

I returned my gaze to the front of the car, luckily for us, our car didn't hit the truck. We were safe. The airbag only came out due to the sharp brakes.

Pedestrians were on the road side, staring in shock.

I heard a knock on the window of the car. I slowly rolled it down as I saw two cops looking in through the window.

I raked my fingers through my hair, making the scattered strands slick back.

“Sir, ma'am. We're sorry, but sir, License and registration, please. Do you know why we're here?"

“Yes, cop, we understand. We were chasing a car. We're sorry, it'll never happen again.” I apologized.

The second cop took over, "Chasing a car? At that speed? You're lucky you didn't collide with that truck. You were doing 80 in a 40 zone.".

"Officer, it-”.

Tyler cut me off, "I know, officer. I made a big mistake and I apologise."

"A mistake? You could've killed yourself or someone else or even kill everyone on the road. You're getting a citation for reckless driving and speeding. You're fortunate to be alive."

He handed me a citation. I glanced down at it. The boxes for reckless driving and speeding were checked.

Wait…..my eyes landed on $280. Two hundred and eighty is quite much for something we weren't completely guilty of, but we had no choice.

"You can pay online but within twenty one days.” He added.

I handed the citation to Tyler.

"Thanks, officers. Have a great day ahead.” I said, forcing a smile as I waved at them.

"Slow down. This isn't a racing track.” He replied.

I nodded, rolling up the window before Tyler ignited the engine and drove off.

“Where are we going now then?" I asked.

With his gaze fixed on the road, he responded, "I'm taking you home. We've had enough drama today.".

His voice sounded a bit grumpy which was very unusual of Tyler.

I shook off the feeling.

He abruptly scoffed, breaking the silence, “Cops.".

My brows furrowed. “Why are you acting up? You could have gotten us killed and put others’ life in danger also. Besides, they were only doing their job.”.

He let out a sigh, not replying to my words.

"Are you okay? You've been acting cold since……the coffee shop. What's wrong?!”.

He parked the car and rolled up the window.

“No, you tell me what's wrong with you! Something is going on you're not telling me, Sapphire.” He raised his voice.

I fliched, looking into his eyes. This was the very first time he raised his voice at me and for some reason, I felt my heartstrings cut off.

“Tyler." I whispered but he didn't respond or show any sign of remorse.

Well, wow. Just wow. His sweet attitude had always been a pretence?!

“There's nothing I'm not telling you. I'm telling you everything, including things I don't want to. My personal stuff! Everything!! You are my diary!!” I raised my voice back, tears collecting in my eyes.

“I can see the secret in your eyes, Sapphire! Don't you fucking lie to me. I've been calm and collected even though that's not who I really am, I did everything for your sake. Been a gentle man for your sake even though that isn't my true nature and you're now going to take me for granted?".

I forced a smile. "Oh wow. Just wow. So all this…..has been pretence all along? You've been lying to me! That has been a mask all along and this is your true face, Tyler.”.

"It is because I love you and now you're the one wearing the mask!!” He yelled, his voice thunderous as a muscle popped up by the side of his neck.

“I'm not lying to you and I'm not going to ever lie to you, but it's good to know you're lying to me at least!”I yelled back.

Tears began to glimmer in his eyes. "Give me your phone if you aren't lying to me. Give me your god-damned phone!” He yelled, snatching my phone from me.

He turned it on and kept trying to unlock it but the pin was wrong. He stretched his hand out with the phone. “Changed pin huh? Fucking Unlock it!" He yelled.

I shook my head, a lone tear finding its way out of my eyes. “it’s my privacy and it's none of your business.”.

“See?” He said, flinging the phone.

I reached for it on the floor, shoving it back inside my pocket. “If you don't trust me then why lie that you love me in the first place? Is it because you do not trust yourself and that's why you've been lying to yourself that you're a nice man even when you know it's all a mask?” I asked.

He shook his head, "You're the mask, Sapphire. You covered my toxicity even when I didn't want to. I wanted to to be the happiest lady on Earth so I did everything for you, including changing myself. But now, I see you leaving me, that's why my toxicity is starting to leak. You're the only remedy. You're leaving, Sapphire, I can feel it.”.

I yelled, "Then put a fucking ring on this finger!".

Shit! I didn't mean to say that.

The tears in his eyes became more visible. He swallowed hard on his saliva, battling with words as he didn't even know how to react. His lips wrre left parted, trembling.

He finally knew what to say but it came out as a lame choke.

“Tyler. I-" I tried apologizing but my words has already cut his heart far more than I could imagine.

My heart squeezed in my chest.

“It's over.".
