Chapter 12(gala)

Sapphire's Point Of View:

“Who’s that?” he asked.

“Who?" I asked before pressing my lips into a thin line, hoping it wasn't what it seemed to be.

“Who?" He asked me back.

The cat got my tongue. “It's Tiara." I lied, faking a smile.

“Your fiance?" He said.

My smile wavered, "I…it's just a little game we're playing and I was dared to do that. Don't bother, you trust me right? I don't become a lesbian, Tyler.”.

"Oh. I see. You should call her then. She seems to need you. Call her, I'd also love to speak with her. It's been a while you know and besides, I didn't send her greetings on her birthday.” He spoke.

I pressed my lips into a thin line again, grabbing my phone from the table before opening Landon's text.

'Where are you? Can we go on a date?’ I saw his message.

'No, fiance. I'm on a date with my boyfriend. Besides, those fake feelings should also go on holiday on weekends, please. You just got me in trouble.’.

I waited for a while then he replied, 'We'll be attending a gala tonight. As my fiance, you should be by my side, holding my hand. A trillionaire at a gala without a partner isn't so nice, especially not for one in his thirties.’.

'Sure. Just get me a nice dress ready.’ I replied.

'Bye.’I added again.

I placed my phone on the table. “She said she's too busy to get on a call right now. She was actually asking me something about the company I work for since she needed some details to see if she can also get a job there. She asked me to send greetings.” I lied.

Yet I would claim I loved him.

I couldn't keep hiding the truth from him forever and the more I hid it, the more the truth would hurt him if he eventually finds out which he would soon enough, but I couldn't bring myself to hurt him just yet.

“Okay then. Oh, concerning your company. You never told me how work is going. Is your boss nice to you? I really hope the work isn't stressing the daylight out of you! What position did you get?” He asked.

I laughed, "Chill, chill….not much question, babe.".

I then added, “Yes, my boss is very nice to me. And no, the work isn't so stressful ....”. Lies, raw lies! “I got the position of a personal assistant of a CEO.".

“Oh. Great. I hope your boss isn't crushing on you though. I can't imagine my own girlfriend leaving me for a CEO!”.

I forced a laugh before swallowing hard, thinking of another lie to feed him. “My boss is a female." I said.

“A female CEO? Perfect.”.

I prayed he wouldn't ask her name since he's also a CEO and I literally didn't know any other CEO except for him and Landon, not even the CEO of the world bank.

“Yeah.".

“Can I ask you something?" He asked.

Oh, no. Don't ask for my boss's name!!

"Can you go with me to the gala tonight as my partner?".

My heart skipped a beat at his question. I swallowed hard, unable to even think of what to say.

I zoned out, looking past his shoulder as my eyes caught a glimpse of someone in a black car on the road with a gun pointing at Tyler.

Tyler's gaze followed mine to trace what I was looking at. Immediately, both our eyes widened.

Before I could even capture the image of the person's face in my memory, the person quickly pulled down his black hood covering his face.

The car immediately zoomed off.

Tyler rose up swiftly, “Get in the car!" He commanded. I've never heard his voice so commanding before.

I quickly grabbed my phone and purse and ran behind him.

We entered the car and before I could even close the door, he fired the engine, zooming off at a crazy speed. I quickly closed the door before throwing my phone into my pocket.

“Use your god-damned seatbelts!" He shouted.

What the fuck?! Tyler was always nice until this moment. I've never heard him say the 'god-damned’ word. What on earth was wrong with him!

However, I ignored his attitude and fastened my seat belt then returned my gaze to the black car ahead.

The car took a sharp left turn. Tyler's leg slammed against the brakes as he quickly rotated the wheels to the left, causing the tyres to make screeching noises against the tiled roads.

My head leaned forward at the impact.

Just like fast and furious.

There was a speed limit sign ahead but Tyler broke the limit but didn't care, instead he kept going.

The car took another turn again but at the right this time. Tyler used the brakes, drifting to the right but we were met with a truck ahead of us.

A sharp scream escaped my lips. Tyler slammed against the brakes again but it was too late. All I knew was my heartbeat became faster than it was and….

'BAM!’.
