I woke up with my head suffering from discomfort and pain. A grunt rebelled from my mouth before I kneaded my temple to alleviate the pain somehow.
However, some footsteps came rushing towards this dim room. Gazing in the direction from where the sound came from, I saw a tall figure approaching through the shadowy hallway. He was obscured by the dusk but when he entered inside, I saw the face of the man who intruded this cabin.
All my meandering thoughts drove into an abrupt halt as he ceased in front of me, placing something on the small table near the bed.
"Lieutenant, how many days I was out?"
He hands me a bowl of brothy soup. Then, he pulled the chair over and settled down.
My attention darted to the bowl of soup. The smell is amazing and my stomach is grumbling at me to hurry and eat it.
"Before I answer that, fill your stomach first."
I nodded despite the query I have in mind to ask but I tugged it aside and concede to his stat
I could hardly remember what took place after I put myself into a deep sleep. Yet the uncertainty was bugging me. I never felt this kind of lightheadedness as though I might pass out again any second.I pushed my body to lift from laying but the unsteadiness of my balance and my muscles that are out of shape was a sense of disorientation of space that affected the range of my senses, making me woozy on the spot.I could even say that a slight movement to leap out from the bed will make my surroundings spin. I can tell that I'll faint any moment if I'll try my luck to drag myself further."Don't move. You still need to recover your strength."My whole body felt weak and exhausted and when I tilted my head to glance at him, my head throbbed."W-what happened before I passed out?" my hoarse voice denoted that I just awakened from my deep slumber. It was slightly raspy and crooked."Here. Drink some water to ease your throat."He handed m
I brushed off the quilt from my body and hopped out from the bed. My body was strangely fueled by Sovine's blood. Speaking of him, I glanced at his side."I need to hear some explanation from you regarding this matter.""I thought you wouldn't ask. It's a relief that I'm prepared for this before doing this kind of deed."I sat back on the bed and listened to him thoroughly. I don't wanna skip any information if I don't take notice of his every word."We've also gone through that. The awakening of an Eleanor's power was overbearing. Hence, when the Sovereign discovered that he can ease the suffering through drinking the blood from his own kin, he took advantage of the Eleanor's blood. I just thought that this method same applies to you and my guts didn't fail me."I breathed sharply and my eyes cast downward. "Is the Sovereign you say was the ruler of the Royal family?"When he nodded, I confirmed my suspicion."A Royal family that was
"The truck has been loaded. We're off to go."I was in deep thought when Sovine gathered my attention.Looking at him, I tilted my head a bit, gesturing to him that I'll talk to him for a while. He nods and we strode to the niche where no one can hear our conversation."What do you want us to talk about?" he said and I notice the hint of seriousness in his voice. My face grew grim and my brows were slightly pulled down."My instinct never failed me but there's something off that I'm having a bad feeling about this trip. I'll leave the Aardwolves and the Black Vultures in your care. Do tell this to Cerulean before we left."He was silent and I took that as a vestige to continue my narration."I want you and Cerulean to protect these people when things go wrong. And if I fail to do my task, leave before everything mess up. There's a lower chance that I can get out but I'll squeeze my way in. I'll take it from there, don't wait for my si
"Stay closer with each other. There's a lot of undead lurking around, ready to pounce at any of us. Be vigilant."Sovine and I lead the way while Grande was fixing her troop to gather together with the things we needed if something came up unexpectedly."You don't have a gun? Why?"My attention bounced to Lieutenant William. I'm slightly irritated because he stuck himself to me like a leech.I lifted my dagger. "This will do. I'll prefer this dagger than to run out with bullets."This dagger was handed by Cerulean which he saw from the basement way back. He says that this dagger suited me. Its tip was sharp, that one contact with it, it can penetrate in someone's skin. The stillness of its shape was a guise that anyone wouldn't know what's lurking beneath the surface. Wielding this, the dagger flickered dangerously more than its contour.I was driven by my deep recalling, hence, when I peeped at him, he was looking at me with strange
"Is anyone injured?" I asked Grande when she walks closer to me."Some were barely a wound but they'll live.""We're about to enter the capital of the Cape city, ready your men. You don't want your men to knot in the tricky trap, do you?"She immediately shook her head. "I'll line them up.""Go," I urged her. "We can't delay our pace if something might come up this time. The circumstances were twisted and I'm afraid that someone might web us in their deceit.""Same thoughts," she murmured and gazed around. "I felt strange about this city unlike the other."I hummed and prowled my eyes in every nook the way. "Yeah. This city fell to ruin. I'm also having a bad feeling about this.""Xiomara... was it just me or various eyes is watching our every move?" she whispered, a bit edgy. When I was about to retort, there's a scream that infiltrated my hearing.I immediately looked back and my eyes dimmed deeply when I saw an arrow
"We can still talk this out. Violence was never an answer to sort everything, Xiomara." Lieutenant William quickly spoke as he held my hand and squeezed it.I halted my hound from attacking and looked at Lieutenant. Poloy growled in defying but I hushed him through a wave of my palm."Sometimes killing is the best excuse to shut them up. I still grasp some mercy, Lieutenant. Cutting their hands will be enough as a payment."I shook his hands away and took a step forward. With my head lifted high, my glare grazed at the men whose egos were pinched up."I'll give you a chance to change your mind."Yet they took my words as a laughing stock and aimed their guns at us."Leave! We don't need any of you here!"A sarcastic chuckle invaded my mouth and peeked at Lieutenant William."See? Where did my statement go wrong, Lieutenant? I'm asking them nicely but they compensate it with such a rude act. Now, tell me. Should I spare them an
"You seem bothered. What thoughts hooked you to be in this deep state?"I lifted my head and saw Grande in front of me. She walks to my side and sat while holding a cup and a bottle of liquor. I don't know where did she get that, perhaps, she found it inside."Something troubling I pondered deeply to sort out."She chuckles and downed her drink. My thoughts zoned out again and the disturbing silence engulfed my nerves. Not until Grande nudged the cup on my arm. The cold metal against my bare skin jolted me from my trance."Have a taste. It will forget your subtle thinking for a while."I accepted the cup without a fuss and drank the liquor she poured. The bittersweet whiff of the liquor dampened my throat and somehow, the bleak tinge soothes my thoughts for a moment."Care to tell me your problem?" she suddenly asked. My eyes stared from nowhere and after a minute of being mute, I peeked at her."Do you think that my existence
Darkness overruled the sky and evening seems dingy and dangerous for the time being. However, I held the binocular and lifted my awareness while scrutinizing the surrounding from the high spot of this building where I stood."Hey..."I put down the binocular and turned my back to face him."Hey," I greeted and smiled a bit. "Haven't talked to you for a long time."He chuckles lightly and walks to my side. My grip from the binocular tightened as I leaned in the railings. While he settled his hands in the balustrades and gazed below."Yeah. You were surrounded by cool people. I can't stand a chance to have a chat. Your time was colonized almost by them.""Herofus," I laughed a little. "I'm free to have a conversation anytime. You're just sheepish to roll along.""Honestly, I'm succumbed by the hesitation I felt. You know, you've done something to be proud of while I'm just a burden you saved back there. I felt so... so useless. Am I wor
