The days of the training flew faster than I expected and soon days became weeks and so far we are at the end of the fourth week. The third week we trained on resistance, controlling our emotions especially our rage and sadness and it was easier said than done. This week, however, we trained on our focus and ability to adapt to changes and I've done that from my corner in the last five days.

I did my best to not be the odd man out, and I paid keen attention to my environment, listening to instructions and following them religiously. I wanted to stay out of trouble as much as I could and did not want to anger any more supervisors I got.

I haven't seen Dane in three weeks, not since the first week that he spoke in my defence. I've also become better so no one would have to rescue me now and then. I needed to be a worthy participant and I've done that so far.

After being the odd man out and stepping on the wrong wires for the first two weeks, I stepped up my g

Another car comes to a stop behind ours and my head sway to the side to see who it is as the door opens.Ken stand, dressed in a black suit and a red bow tie. He barely notices me as he makes his way to the other side of the car and opens it to India who offers him her hand. He takes her hand graciously helps her out of the car and after a long low conversation, they lock elbows and stroll towards us with India's head on his shoulder. The closer they get, the clearer my vision of them and though they both dressed amazingly with India stepping up her game with her hair, makeup and the blue silk gown she has on, Ken beside her, looks anything but happy.Good to know he’s also miserable. This is my jealous phase, it sucks. The rest soon join us up and at exactly eight p.m., we step into the building. The ushers welcomed us to the party and everyone had their hands entwined with their dates and we all had a smile on our faces. • Betrayed by the Alpha    37: Blinded by sight

Ken’s POV I knock on the door and after a few seconds later; it opens and India Lopez comes out in all her glory. She stands before me in a blue silk gown that hugs her curves in all the right places. A smile plaster on her face and my eyes light up to see her. She places her hand on her hips. “What do you think?” I take her in from head to toe. She’s indeed pretty. “You look great,” I gush and leaned in to kiss her lips, but she brushes past me and steps out of the room. She offered me her hand and I take and together we make our way out of the house. My eyes linger on Jaclyn as we step up towards them after stepping out of the room heading towards the party hall. I saw she looked displeased, perhaps even annoyed, but she masks it all up. She’s that good. Jaclyn has always had a thing for masking her emotions and only showed them around very few people. And once, I was one of those people.

  • Betrayed by the Alpha    38: Nothing good comes with trouble

I needed to get out and get air as fast as I could. The inside has choked the life out of me, and I don’t want to be anywhere near Quinton or Ken. As soon as I step outside, I glance upward at the beautiful night sky allured by the peace and comfort it brought to me a feeling that everything will be fine. I sighed and my eyes fluttered briefly, taking in the coldness and the feel of loneliness in for maybe a second more before returning inside. When my eyes flutter open, I notice the change in my surrounding as standing outside and taking in the breeze’s coldness was the last thing I remember. I no longer stand outside, rather I see myself at the corner of a room with no memory of how I got here. Confused and terrified, I spin around, trying to figure out where exactly I now am. I know there is no such thing because I have never been here before, so I wouldn’t be able to tell where I am. But I have to get out of here and find those I

Dane’s POV“What’s wrong with your hand?” she asked with a curious voice.“What?” I ask, a little taken aback by her question. Her gaze lifts to meet my narrowed eyes before moving back to my right arm. “Why does it glow?” she asks again, her voice sounding more curious than a few seconds ago.No one has ever seen my mark; not since it appeared after I had my premier shift. According to its history, no one except the werewolf bearing it sees it. It has been a mark passed down for generations amongst the firstborn of my bloodline. Being firstborn of my father, I inherited the mark and so far not even the members of my family know its shape or colour. This human right here can somehow see it and that surprises and scares me, even as I wonder what that might mean.“How is it you can see it?” I ask, confusion taking o

A knock comes to my door and I mentally try to discern who it is. Yes, I have an outing with Ken today because we plan on seeing the places we haven’t been to at the north central before the first half result comes out. Yet, I am not so sure he would come over by this time.I would say mama, but she doesn’t come back this early from work; she never has. Besides, she has her own key and wouldn’t have to knock to get in unless she lost the key, which I very much doubt. I wonder if there’s even someone at the door to begin with. The knock comes the second time, and groaning; I rise from the bed and make my way out.“Who’s there?” I grumble as I get to the door, but silence greets me back. “If you don’t speak, this door will stay close.”“It’s me, Jaclyn, open up,” the familiar voice came, but not belonging to mama, Ken or Dane. However, it’s a voice I&

I set my bags together and zipped them up. It’s been three days since the result of the first half of training came out and it’s time to leave for Beverly Hill, the big city where our final half of the Go Project training will begin.I received emails three days ago, congratulating me on making it to the top five candidates for the project and I remember running around the house overwhelmed with joy. Ken called about an hour later to tell me he also passed onto the final half and hearing that brought tears to my eyes. Then I called Caroline and she told me she also made it through. That day somehow became my happiest day along with the day I got accepted into the UA.I began preparations to leave, excited for the journey about to unfold.Mama felt proud after I broke the news to her and she told me the sky would be a stepping stone for me. So far, she has helped me put some stuff together, and she got me provisions and a few food items. I

I stepped out of the bus, having reached the destination and my legs were barely holding it together. I had crushing motion sickness and despite the ease and comfort the tour bus provided; it didn’t ease how I felt.Ken noticed my struggles thirty minutes into the journey to Beverly Hills and he held onto my hand. I realise as we journeyed that I had never gone that far all my life. The city side of the north was amazing compared to our little town. The building was bigger and the roads wider and the atmosphere busier.I take it all in and silently tell myself UA had already prepared me for everything that was is to come. Nothing would take me by surprise and if it did, I had my friends beside me and they will see me through.“Are we going to live here?!” Caroline whispers, sounding half excited half curious as she stepped out to see the massive building before her.“I think so,” Ken replied, and she giggled in excitement.

Now, as midnight passed, they needed rest. However, Ian stepped into the room to interrupt his much-needed rest.“Someone is here to see you.”“Who is he?” Ace moans, his lashes cracking open. The girls beside him wake as well.“His name is Kenneth Miller. He once trained with the rogue pack alongside the fire wolf and Caroline Matters. He’s like me, a witch.” Ian answers.Ace doesn’t need all the information. He knows who the kid was. He had faced him about a year ago when he came to the safe house. “What did he say?” he asks, helping himself up with his elbows on the bed.“He said he needed an audience with you. He believes what he has to say is important.”“Let him speak to you, then.” Ace

After the fight with his brother a few hours ago, Dane felt his strength leave him and it’s still yet to return.“How did they know we would be in fewer numbers today?” Dane asks, his tone dominated by confusion as he properly sits up.“Could this be Ace’s doing?” Liam asks, his voice rising curiously.“Ace is a lot of things, but he will never betray his own. He promised he will handle everything today and when Jaclyn asked to come see him before the face off; he didn’t object. If Silas took offence at this, he says nothing as he closes the door and follows Ken further into the house. “How did you find me?” he asks once they reach the living room. Ken scoffs, “I’m a witch, Silas. I know where you and ten others I passed by while coming here live.” “Fine. Why are you here?” “To ask you what it takes to be a spineless father.” Ken shoots immediately. This time, his words strikes Silas, and a frown forms on his face. “What’s that supposed to mean?” “It

Last month, Dane had helped set her back into the Northrich university she left a year ago. The plan was to work while schooling and she told him she could take on both responsibilities. Dane saw to it to assign her the minimum work while paying her the salary as if she was a full-time employee. He also stayed off her way, only seeing her a few times a week, giving her time to adjust to the working routine. She didn’t bother to lift her head from the files she worked on. He hadn’t lurked around in the last three weeks and so she knows something is up today. But knowing Dane, she doubts he’d go straight to the point. Well, he stands in her office and she can’t ignore the hell out of him like she wants.“Hey.” He speaks, and her head slowly lifts to see him with a wide smile on his face.“Hello.

She smiles at her before bringing the glass to her mouth when she feels someone sit beside her and, without turning to see who it is, she knew it was Ken. Her mood changes slightly. These past months she’d missed him so much, but she didn’t want him here. Not now. “Hello, Jaclyn.” “Ken,” she nods in acknowledgement, rounding her finger over the mouth of the small cup she just placed down. “It’s been a while, Jaclyn. I’m left to believe you forgot about me at this point.” She didn’t, but she can’t tell him that. “I’ve been quite busy.” Pain flashes in his eyes and he clears his throat. “Caroline told me you accepted the job at the Vixon’s industry four weeks ago.” “I did.” “You didn’t tell me.” “I didn’t think I had to, besides I kn

Flashback Eight months ago, a month after Jaclyn woke. “People say the moon goddess loves all his children equally. Well, they lied because the moon goddess loves the fire wolf more.” Ken read aloud as he came to take his seat on the couch next to Jaclyn, holding two small textbooks in his hands. “How do you mean?” she asked from beside him, her legs folded in a yoga style and her hands rubbing her knee. “Remember when I told you fire wolves can never be mated or marked, but they can choose their mate and mark them?” when she nodded he continued, “This book confirms it.” “That, never having a mate sounds like a bad thing instead of good,” she said with a displeased scowl. “It’s not. The purpose of a fire wolf is more than finding a mate. The goddess, knowing this, made them unmarkable at least to an extent.” he closed the book and opened the other one, having a brown hardcover back. He did a dramatic throat-clearing before read
