BACK IN LIGHTCREST PACK

The palace of the lightcrest pack was swarming with guests and elders from different packs. The palace walls, usually green and dull, was fully covered in fresh paint. Servants and maids could be seen running around to get things in place for the ceremony—the crowning of a new Alpha.

Marcus, the soon to be Alpha inspected the hallways every minute, his eyes pointing out everything that wasn’t perfect. After all, it was his big day. The day he would be made the Alpha of the pack.

The ceremony was slated to start by noon and it was only quarter past ten but Marcus was shivering with nervousness in his room. It was not easy to lead a pack, of course, but it was far harder when the previous Alpha was still alive.

“You know you don’t have to be scared of him.” His mate, Lilian told him as she wrapped her arms around him. He pulled her closer and planted a kiss on her lips.

“I know.” He ran his fingers through his hair anxiously. “It’s just that this is the first time that something like this is happening. You know Alexander is a very spiteful soul when he’s angered. I fear that his jealousy may cause him to do something dangerous.”

Lilian sighed and plopped herself down the bed. “So what do you want to do? You can’t step down, can you? I don’t care about the title of Luna. I just want you to be safe.”

“But I want to be the Alpha.” Marcus admitted. “I want to be better than Alexander. I know I can lead this pack the best way if I’m given a chance.”

Marcus, three years younger than Alexander, was dedicated to the pack. They had grown up as friends, each born into royalty. They attended the same high school, drank in clubs together, and sometimes even shared the same women. That was all before Marcus found Lilian and Alexander was made the Alpha.

“Just be careful around him. He might act like he’s unbothered about your new position but you have to keep an eye on him.” Lilian advised. “Now, let me calm your nerves.”

She inched closer to him and pressed her lips to his. Marcus shut his eyes, convincing himself that she was all he needed. That if he stayed close to her, plundering her wet lips, that everything would be okay.

Determined to push all the negative thoughts out of his mind completely, Marcus lifted Lilian to the bed and began to deepen their kiss. The wind was blowing gently outside but he was far lost in her.

He let his fingers wander under her dress and they grazed the lines of her panties, causing her to squirm. “Take them off.” He whispered in her ears.

“But you have only an hour before the ceremony. Don’t you think we should do this after?” She gave him an awkward smile, while still running her fingers down his chest.

“The ceremony can wait.” He breathed, kissing down her neck. “Right now, I just want to bury myself in you and forget about everything.”

She giggled and parted her legs to welcome him. Marcus quickly began to unfasten the belt around his trousers. He lowered himself to kiss her, his fingers circling her clit.

“Hold on..” Lilian gently pushed him off when a knock sounded on the door. It was a faint sound, barely audible and they both paused to listen. The knock came again, still faint like a toddler was playing at the door.

“Shhhhh.” Marcus motioned to Lilian with a hand on his lips. “Who is there?” He called out, grabbing a hammer on top of the wardrobe.

There was an initial silence from the other end before the knock came again. Lilian’s heart was thumping in her chest, afraid that they might be under attack.

“I’m not going to ask again. Who’s there?” Marcus positioned himself at the edge of the door, holding the hammer firmly. He was ready to strike anybody who came through the door down.

But then, he heard a chuckle, a familiar voice he could always detect. “Seriously? I know you guys are in there. Stop fucking each other and let me in. I have something to discuss with you.”

Marcus exhaled and shook his head. “You really know how to spook me.” He said, opening the door to welcome Alexander.

Alexander walked in, a maid following him gently with a tray. On the tray was Marcus’s favorite wine and three glass cups. “I’m sorry for interrupting anything.” He winked at Marcus. “I know you two are like rabbits. But I’ve come to celebrate you before the main ceremony.”

“That is so thoughtful, Alex.” Marcus replied, hugging him briefly. “Today has really been suffocating for me. I think a glass of wine is what I truly needed.”

Lilian faked a smile, shifting uncomfortably because of the negative energy she could detect from Alexander. Although he had a convincing smile, she could tell that something wasn’t quite right with him.

“You’ve got to be careful.” She whispered to Marcus through their mind link. “I can sense negative energy from him.”

But Marcus was too excited that Alexander had even paid him a visit. Convinced that he was angry about his new position, a visit from Alexander seemed like a positive way to declare that peace still existed between them.

“Don’t worry about it.” He told Lilian. “You’re just tensed.” He dismissed her warning casually, neglecting the discomfort their wolves shared.

Marcus dismissed the maid and poured the wine into the three glass cups. He handed Marcus and Lilian their glasses and held one back. With a smile on his face, he patted Marcus’ back.

“Let’s toast to the new Alpha of this pack.” Alexander announced. “You’ve been my friend right from basic school. If there’s anyone I can entrust this pack to, it’s definitely you. Let’s toast to Marcus!”

“Toast.” They all chorused. Alexander was the first to take a large gulp of his wine, convincing Marcus that there was nothing to worry about. That Lilian was merely suspicious.

After downing the first glass, Alexander poured them a second which they sipped down as well. “You know, when we were in high school, I could swear that you were jealous of me. You dressed the way I did and even hung out with the girls who were only interested in talking to me.” Alexander chuckled as he spoke but Marcus didn’t find his statement quite funny.

“That was a long time ago. We were both childish and immature.” Marcus replied, taking a sip of his wine.

“No!” Alexander’s voice became deeper. “You were immature. You wanted everything I had even up till now.” He laughed, then continued. “You think you can be made Alpha of this pack, huh? I doubt that.”

“Alexander, what are you say—” Lilian rose to her feet but fuzzily fell back to the bed. She looked down at her hands which were trembling as she held the glass. Each passing second, it felt like the glass was suddenly heavier than her hand. Shaking with tears in her eyes, she glanced up at Alexander. “What did you do?”

Marcus rushed to her and held her up before she collapsed on the bed. He lifted her head to meet his face and gasped when he realized what was happening to her.

Blood seeped through Lilian’s nose and eyes slowly. Her body was burning like hot charcoal and blood was threatening to explode from the tip of her fingers.

Shaking, Marcus turned to Alexander who had an evil smile on his face. “What did you do to her?” He gulped, suddenly experiencing difficulty in speaking.

“You should start to feel the same symptoms in about 30 seconds.” Alexander replied, his eyes cold as stone. “I suggest you save your energy or you’ll die quickly.”

“You poi–poisoned us.” He breathed, then coughed, blood splatting from his mouth. “I trusted you.”

“Trust exists between friends. You, on the other hand, tried to steal my title from me.”

Marcus shook Lilian slightly, tears and blood streaming slowly from his eyes. “Please, stay with me.” He tried to lift her but his legs wobbled under the effect of the poison.

“It’s no use, Marcus.” Alexander admitted. “You took a good amount of wolfsbane. There’s nothing you can do for her or yourself.”

Lilian reached out to touch Marcus’ face. “Mar–cus. I love–” her hands fell back to the bed and she lost her pulse.

“No. No.” Marcus begged weakly, crying with the last strength in him. “Don’t leave me.” He hugged Lilian tightly, her blood stained face smearing his clothes.

“Don’t worry, you’ll join her soon enough.” Alexander sneered, then watched as Marcus took his last breath. He touched his chest to confirm he was dead and smiled in satisfaction. “No one will take this pack from me. Not even you, Marcus.” He spat on their dead bodies.

“It’s done.” Alexander informed Martha through their mind link. “Marcus and Lilian are dead.” Alexander leaned close to Marcus body, which was shrinking with each passing minute. “Hmmmm. I’m sorry this had to happen to you. But I can’t let you take over my pack. I wish it was someone else, I truly wish it was.” A knock sounded on the door, jolting him from his thoughts and Alexander opened it to let Martha in. With two large duffel bags in her hands, she grinned widely when she saw Marcus and Lilian lying dead on the bed. She wrapped her arms around Alexander’s neck and gave him a long, wet kiss. “You did it! I’ve always known you were a man of your words.” His lips quirked. “We have to get rid of the bodies before anyone finds out. In less than an hour, the entire pack will be expecting them at the coronation hall.” “Okay. They are beginning to smell already.” Martha giggled and gave him one of the bags. Lilian meant nothing to her. She would kill her again and again if it was co

GOLDEN STONE PACKDaisy’s POV“I invited my friends for breakfast.” Landon wrapped his arms around me and a small smile spread across my lips. “I want to introduce you to them. You’ll get along with most of them.” “Most of them?” My eyebrows cocked. “Let’s just say that Penny and Dylan might be mischievous and cold for sometime. But trust me, they are really nice.” “Ok. I hope they are.”He led me to the breakfast table, filled with several dishes. Some maids were still scurrying around, adding meals to the table and getting everything in place. I thought it was an extravagant way to have breakfast but considering it was our first breakfast together, I knew he was trying to impress me. As soon as we sat down to eat, his friends walked in, each majestic and breathtaking. Lycans were beautiful, no doubt. Their features were delicate yet sharp, refined and attractive. It was hard to walk past a Lycan without turning twice to take in their beauty. As I watched them take their seat ar

Daisy’s POV“What?” My lips quivered as I stared at the seer. I didn’t want to believe that her revelation was true, that I was going to suffer another failed relationship. “That’s impossible!” Landon growled beside me, inching closer to the seer. “Re-do it again. I don’t believe that’s right.” I was a bit relieved that Landon also didn’t agree with the revelation. After all, he invited her to the palace. If there was anyone who had the rights to disagree with her, it was him. The seer cackled, her tongue running over her blackened teeth. Her eyes sparkled with mischief but I couldn’t tell if it was just the natural characteristic of witches to be crafty or she had something up her sleeves. “The moon goddess doesn’t make mistakes.” She eyed me wearily. “Your mate should be more concerned than you, Prince. She is the key to everything.” I choked back a curse, my heart thumping hard in my chest. “Me?” I exhaled. “What could possibly go wrong with us? You made the previous prophecy a

Daisy’s POVLandon froze immediately the words left John’s lips. The color on his face drained gradually and his lips twisted into a vivid frown. “Where are they?” He asked, with a different cold voice. His eyes had darkened, veins appearing around them and I instantly realized he was livid. What could possibly make him so upset about his parent’s arrival? “A border guard called me immediately after their convoy passed the pack’s main entrance. I ran here as quickly as I could to tell you. They should be here any moment from now.” John appeared to be confident but I could also see he was struggling. “Get me the royal mantle.” Landon instructed him. “My mother would lose her mind if I welcome her without the royal robe.” John sprinted away to do his bidding leaving us alone for a brief moment. “What’s going on?” I asked, feeling lightheaded. Everything was hitting me at once and I couldn’t grasp anything at all. The seer, the revelation, his parents; I was completely confused. Lan

Daisy's POVA low chuckle left Landon's lips as he shook his head slowly. He turned to me, his gaze a mixture of sadness and pain. "Do you want to know why I didn't tell you about her, mother?" He asked, taking a step closer to her, his hands clenched beside him. "It's obvious." Queen Athena purred, shooting me a disgusted glare. "You're ashamed of her. I would be ashamed and embarrassed by her too. I can't believe the moon goddess would make you wait for years and give you this—this.." She scrunched up her face in disgust as she pointed at me. It was like she was avoiding staring at me completely like a look from me could curse her with leprosy. "This girl. It's unbelievable that you would bring her into this palace in the first place." "I've waited for hundreds of years to find my mate—" Landon began but his mother quickly chipped in. "That is not an excuse to bring in just anybody to this palace." "Can you hear yourself?" His voice thundered, echoing across the room fiercely. I

Daisy’s POVI rushed into my room, firmly closing the door to block out the argument happening in the meeting room. However, it was of no use. Landon and his parents' voices had grown louder, each fueled by anger and frustration.“I will not accept that thing as your mate!” I heard the queen’s shrill voice from the meeting room. “You must be mated to a royal princess!”“Screw your royalty! I won’t be with anyone else but Daisy!” I flinched slightly when I heard Landon’s voice. I knew he was angry, so angry that his wolf was threatening to break free.“What is wrong with me?” I slumped down to the cold, bare floor, my back pressing against the door. “Why am I never enough for the people I love?”In my grief, I considered if I had made the wrong choice by accepting Logan as my mate. I tried to envision a life where I made a different choice and stayed with Alexander. Such a life would be full of misery, but it would have saved me from Queen Athena’s scorching hatred.“Lightcrest has fal

BACK AT LIGHTCREST PACK "You wont believe this!" Martha exclaimed as she dashed into Alexander's room. She found him in his study, leaning back in his chair and talking on the phone. She had a wide grin on her face as she waved an envelope, sealed with the royal ink, in the air. "The Lycan Queen sent us an invite." "I'll talk to you later." Alexander breathed to the person on the phone, then snatched the envelope which contained the invite from her. "An invite to what?" He asked, ripping off the seal. His hands were unsteady as he took out the invite, his eyes gleaming over it. "I don't know." She shrugged. "What does it say?" She leaned closer to him, trying to read the letter.Without tearing his eyes away from the letter, Alexander rose to his feet. A small smile carved around his lips as he read the invite once more, to be sure he didn't misread it earlier. "It's an invitation to a masquerade ball." He finally told her. "A ball?" Martha wasn't impressed. "What kind of ball? A

ONE WEEK LATERGOLDEN STONE PACKDaisy's POVOne week passed by faster than I imagined, and no matter how much I prayed the days would slow down, the day for the ball arrived. As I stood by the window, watching the guests arrive for the grand ball, I couldn't help but feel my stomach tying into a tight knot. Everyone seemed to be brimming with anticipation, ready to enjoy the night but my stomach churned with a nauseating mixture of apprehension and anger. The room seemed to be closing in on me, and my thoughts were spiraling out of my head. I had always been treated harshly by people but this was the worst of it. Most people in my previous pack saw me as a weakling, humiliated me for being different but I always tried to ignore them. But the Queen's decision to separate Landon and I was too much to ignore. All I had ever dreamed of was experiencing the true love of a mate, feeling accepted and welcomed somewhere, anywhere. And when Landon came into my life, I believed my dreams ha

LANDONMy father, the king...I quickly placed Daisy back on the pillow and slowly pulled away from her. I could see the question and worry in her eyes, but I didn’t have the time to appease her. Quickly, I ran to the wardrobe and grabbed clothes for myself, a royal robe.No matter what, one must not enter the crown area without having a robe. I turned to look at Daisy, who was holding a pillow to herself in a bid to cover up her nakedness. I tried to smile, but it didn’t come out quite right."Wait here," I said instead. With that, I stepped out of the room to a pensive-looking John. His head was down in obeisance, and I could tell that the matter was grave, for there was none of his calming aura at that moment."What happened to my father?” I asked at once.He shook his head. "I don’t have much information about it, Prince Landon. All I know is that the queen has sent for you, and she is in no good mood," he added.I gave a quick nod and moved quickly toward the elevator. DAISY"I can’t keep staying here," I grumbled as I got out of bed, feeling completely drained. I knew I needed rest but I couldn’t continue to lie in bed all day. I was losing my mind with all the thoughts in my head and a distraction was needed. I had no idea what time it was, but I knew I had spent two days in bed after Landon’s last visit. The fact he had not come again to check up on me was so painful. Was I really going to succeed in breaking my own relationship with my own hands? Had I really succeeded in pushing him away? I shook my head as I walked barefoot to the bathroom. I can’t take the whole blame since he was the one who didn’t do anything to defend me from his mother’s continuous onslaught.Sighing I pulled my shirt off and tossed it to the nearest washing basket. I could imagine that I actually had some odour since I had not had my bath for two days, but at least, I was fine now. I pushed my hands back a bit, and slowly pushed myself up."Oh, moon goddess!" I breathed out at the same time the door sprang open, and in came, Prince Landon holding a tray of freshly baked biscuit and warm scented tea.He beamed at me as though we had suddenly sorted out all the problems between us. ALEXANDERThe whole atmosphere was so chill as death, and I didn’t need to be told twice what had caused it to be so. There was no point in dwelling in such matters, but I found that I couldn’t think straight with all that had happened.I turned towards the empty podium where the queen and king should be, but it was vacant. "Do you think someone really tried to kill Daisy, or she had orchestrated all these to gain sympathy from the Lycan Prince?" I asked Wyatt who stood behind me in silence."Alpha, I wouldn’t know for sure till I investigate the matter. But, whatever happened here doesn’t look like a ploy. She was really in pain," Wyatt said calmly.I frowned at that as my hands twisted over my pants. If that were true, then who could have done such a thing? It was definitely not me, because all I wanted was to get her out of here, and to my pack. I wanted her to knee before me in submission, and unable to say a word in her defence. My eyes scanned the room, and I realised that Mart
