Chapter 7

Izzy smirked, her gaze never leaving him. "Just answer my question. Am I?" she asked, her voice light with amusement. "Or are you just realizing you’re not as over me as you claim?"

Kieran’s eyes darkened, his jaw tightening. "You’re delusional."

Izzy took a step forward, closing the distance between them, her voice dropping to a whisper, almost too quiet to hear. "And yet, here we are."

Kieran’s hands clenched into fists at his sides, the tension in the air thickening as Izzy’s words hung like a challenge between them. His eyes flashed with something dangerous, something that made his entire presence feel like a storm ready to break.

But then, as if suddenly realizing the futility of it all, Kieran turned on his heel. He strode to the door, his movements rigid, the air around him crackling with anger.

Without another word, he slammed the door behind him, the noise reverberating through the empty room like the final strike of a hammer.

Izzy stood there for a moment longer, watching the door, her lips curling into a knowing smile.

"Not over me," she muttered under her breath, her eyes gleaming with a strange satisfaction. "Not over me at all."

And with that, she turned, her heels clicking on the polished floor as she walked away, the tension she’d created lingering in the air long after she’d gone.

Thalia the healer, stood there and watched as they both argued and then she cleared her throat. “I should leave Alpha”

“Why would you leave without any solution? What are you given that position for? You are the healer of this pack, you are the healer of this pack, and you are telling me I wont be able to give birth? Or are you saying another Luna has a child for Kieran?” Izzy's voice cuts through the room like a sharp blade, and it's relentless.

Thalia shifted uncomfortably, her hands clasped together. “I–”

“Make it make sense!” Izzy snapped, stepping toward her. “Kara isn't pregnant. She can't be pregnant. So maybe you are seeing things wrong or maybe you are just wrong altogether”.

Thalia swallowed hard, her gaze darting between Izzy and Kieran, who stood tense, silent, his fists still clenched.

“I am not wrong,” Thalia finally said, her voice quieter but firm. “I can't possibly see things wrong, I have been in this pack for years”

The room went deathly still.

Izzy's heart slammed against her ribs “Maybe you are wrong this time, how could Kara be pregnant?” She said, turning her gaze to Kieran.

Thalia exhaled, clearly not wanting to be the one to say it. “She was once pregnant but she lost it weeks ago, she didn't tell anyone”

Izzy became uneasy.

FLASHBACK

Izzy’s fingers tightened around the edge of the sink as the memory slammed into her.

It had started with something so simple.

A cup of tea.

She had made it herself, just like always—hot, strong, laced with just enough honey to cut the bitterness. Kara had always been picky about taste. Too strong, and she’d complain. Too sweet, and she’d refuse to drink it. Izzy had gotten it just right.

She had handed Kara the cup, watching as the other woman took the first sip.

“You always make the best tea,” Kara had murmured, cradling the mug between her hands. Her long hair was pulled into a loose braid over her shoulder, her face softer than usual. Relaxed. She hadn’t looked like a woman carrying Kieran’s child. She hadn’t looked like a woman who had everything Izzy had ever wanted.

But she was.

Izzy smiled, sitting across from her, making idle conversation. Just like any other day. Just like nothing was wrong.

But something was wrong.

She knew it.

She had felt it.

And she had ignored it.

Because the tea hadn’t just been tea.

At first, it seemed harmless. Kara had finished the cup, set it aside, and continued talking like nothing had changed. Izzy had almost let herself believe it.

Until Kara’s breath hitched.

Until her fingers trembled against the table.

Until her free hand instinctively pressed against her stomach, her lips parting, eyes flickering with something Izzy couldn’t name.

Confusion.

Pain.

Fear.

“Are you okay?” Izzy had asked, keeping her voice even.

Kara had swallowed hard, shaking her head slightly. “I—I don’t know. I feel… strange.”

Izzy had stayed still, her own heartbeat thudding in her ears.

“It’s probably nothing,” she had said lightly.

And Kara had believed her.

Hours later, Izzy had heard the truth.

The whispers spread through the pack like wildfire.

Kara had lost the baby.

It happened fast. No explanation. No reason. Just… gone.

Izzy had felt her stomach drop, the weight of the truth crashing over her like a wave she couldn’t escape.

Because she had known.

She had known what was in that tea.

It hadn’t been intentional. It hadn’t been a grand, malicious plan. She had just wanted Kara to feel something—to hurt, even if just a little. To be unsettled. Uncomfortable.

But not this.

Never this.

Yet, the truth didn’t care about intentions.

The truth was brutal.

Kara had lost Kieran’s child.

And Izzy had been the one who gave her the tea.

No one knew.

Not Kieran. Not the pack. Not even Kara herself.

And now, standing here, the weight of that memory suffocating her, Izzy realized something.

If Kieran ever found out…

Would he ever forgive her? Because he needed a pup to be able to take on his throne.

“I was the reason why she had lost the baby back then but no one must ever know, not even Kieran, if only he knew what I had done, he would denounce me as the Luna, I had gotten this position by doing dirty things, I can't just ruin it now with a tiny mistake” Izzy murmured to herself.

Thalia cleared her throat. “I shouldn’t be here for this.”

“Then go,” Kieran snapped.

She didn’t need to be told twice. With a quick nod, Thalia turned and all but fled, leaving behind a room thick with tension.

Izzy folded her arms, glaring at Kieran. “So, what now?”

Kieran exhaled sharply, dragging a hand through his hair. “What do you want me to say, Izzy?”

“I want the truth.”

“You have the truth.” His eyes locked onto hers, burning with frustration. “You can’t have kids. Kare lost hers and didn’t tell me. That’s the truth. What do you want me to do about it?”

Izzy clenched her jaw. “Something. Say something that makes sense of all this. Because right now, it sounds like everything is falling apart, and you’re just standing there.”

“You think I’m not losing my mind over this?” Kieran’s voice was suddenly raw, his control slipping. “You think I wanted any of this?”

Izzy scoffed. “Oh, so now you’re the victim?”

“I never said that.”

“You didn’t have to.”

Kieran stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. “And what about you, Izzy? You’re so desperate to prove something to me, but what do you want? If you could have my child, would you even want that?”

The question hit her harder than she expected. Her mouth opened, but no words came.

Kieran let out a humorless chuckle. “Exactly.”

“Don’t act like you know me,” she said, voice tight. “You don’t get to stand there and pretend like you have me figured out.”

Kieran’s gaze softened—just for a second, just enough for her to hate it. “I know enough.”

“You know nothing.”

A heavy silence stretched between them, thick with everything unsaid.

Finally, Kieran shook his head. “You always think you’re the only one hurting.”

Izzy swallowed hard. “And you think you don’t deserve it?”

Kieran exhaled sharply, then, without another word, turned and stormed toward the door.

“Yeah, that’s right,” Izzy muttered as he walked away. “Run like you always do.”

Kieran stopped. His back was rigid, his hand on the doorknob. For a second, Izzy thought he might actually say something. But then, just like before, he slammed the door behind him.

She let out a slow breath, her hands shaking as she ran them through her hair.

She should have felt satisfied.
