It had been two years since we had seen each other.
"How have you been, Kiana?" Alessia asked, hugging me.
Given our complicated history, I had expected a more distant reception. In a daze, I somehow mustered a polite reply: "I've been well, Alessia. Thanks for asking. It's great to see you again."
My attention drifted towards Dion. Probably eyes gave away my true feelings as they locked onto Dion, filled with a cold, lingering stare. The unspoken history between Dion and Alessia cast a shadow over my mood.
"I missed you so much, Kiana." Alessia beamed. "You look beautiful. Is that gown from Dolce and Gabbana?
I gave an empty smile. "Thank you, Alessia; where have you been all this time?" I tried to redirect the conversation away from my appearance.
"Oh, I was travelling here and there, trying to discover myself." Alessia's response only heightened the tension in the room, as it reminded me of the distance that had grown between Dion and me. He was still quietly staring at Alessia. I choked on a small laugh, trying to lighten the mood. "Well, I'm glad you're back now. We have a lot to catch up on."
The other pack members descended around Alessia. I watched as they exchanged warm embraces, feeling a pang of jealousy and resentment. Alessia still held a special place in their hearts.
Feeling increasingly out of place, I excused myself from the party. I needed time to collect my thoughts, confront my past, and perhaps save my marriage. But it was possible that now that Alessia was back, Dion would favour Alessia, his first love.
Alessia stayed in the pack even after the party was long over. I barely saw Dion after the party. He would leave early and return late. I avoided Alessia as well. I just kept to myself, scared of any confrontation. Two days had passed, and it was time for the long-overdue conversation that had been haunting me.
I waited for Dion, anxiety and uncertainty heavy in the air. I had initially resolved to tell Dion about my pregnancy, clinging to the fragile hope that it might be a turning point in our fractured marriage.
"You are still awake?" Dion's voice broke my heart. I had been waiting in the living room of our suite.
I looked at his tall frame towering over me as he entered the room. His tired eyes and dishevelled appearance hinted that he hadn't been sleeping well either. Despite my nerves, I mustered a small smile and nodded, gesturing for him to sit beside me.
"Dion, we need to talk." I fumbled.
Dion's expression grew serious as he took a seat next to me.
"Yeah, I wanted to talk to you as well." He said. "After five months, our marriage will end," he stated, his words a stark declaration of his intentions.
My heart sank, and a wave of disappointment washed over me.
"I see," I replied, my voice tinged with sorrow. My dreams of reconciliation crumbled before my eyes, leaving me with a profound sense of hopelessness.
"However, Kiana, the pack will always be your home. Your place will always be here."
I looked at Dion's unreadable face. Was he offering compensation? Or was he simply trying to soften the blow of our impending divorce?
"Thank you, Dion." I whispered.
"You wanted to say something?" Dion asked.
I shook my head. "It's nothing important."
But then Dion uttered a name that felt like a sharp blow to my chest. "Alessia."
Dion's mention of Alessia sent a shiver down my spine.
"What about Alessia?" I inquired, my voice trembling with uncertainty. The mere mention of her name brought a flood of emotions rushing back, as if the wounds of the past had been freshly torn open.
Dion hesitated for a moment before he replied, "Alessia told me you drove her away two years ago."
His words astounded me. The accusation felt like a knife to my heart, a painful twist of reality that I had never expected. I didn't ask her to leave; Alessia left on her own, but now to hear that she had accused me of driving her away was a devastating revelation.
The truth was on my mind, but I could not respond and remained silent. Dion's words echoed in the air, creating an uncomfortable silence between us. The weight of his accusation hung heavy, leaving me grappling with a mix of emotions: anger, confusion, and a deep sense of betrayal. The wounds from the past had not healed, and now I faced the daunting task of defending myself against a false narrative.
Dion continued, his voice tinged with a hint of regret, "Since Alessia has returned, I hoped you would accept her back into the pack."
Dion had misunderstood my role in Alessia's departure. I took a deep breath, trying to gather my thoughts before responding. "She can stay."
Before giving him a chance to speak further, I added,
"I will choose to leave when the contract expires," I declared, my voice trembling with resolve. I couldn't bear the weight of this one-sided love any longer.
I didn't wait for Dion to answer before leaving. My footsteps could be heard in the hallway. It hurt too much to love someone who didn't love me back, and I couldn't figure out how to fix the rift that had formed between us.
Though it was dark in the hallway, I couldn't help but feel like my life had turned into a sad farce. No matter how hard I tried, I could tell that Dion still loved Alessia with all his heart. When I realised that, I chose not to tell Dion about my pregnancy because I didn't want to bother him. I instead raised the child by myself. It was time for me to start over, free from the hurt and confusion that had marked my past.
After that painful conversation with Dion, I distanced myself from him and Alessia. The thought of seeing their happiness together with the rest of the pack was painful. I couldn't stand to see Alessia and the others having fun while I was having a hard time with my own feelings.
My sole focus had shifted to protecting my child and the future I had envisioned for us. I knew that leaving the pack was inevitable, and I had given myself a timeframe of three months to prepare for our departure. But in those moments, I hadn't quite figured out where we would go or what lay ahead.
******************
The soft glow of twilight filled my room as I struggled with a heavy box. I was determined to get my things in order before leaving, so I kept going.
Suddenly, a voice from the doorway broke through my concentration. "Madam Luna, you really shouldn't be doing heavy lifting in your condition." Gilly had materialised silently, her eyes filled with concern. She was one of the few who knew about my pregnancy, along with the pack doctor.
I paused and smiled gratefully at Gilly. "You're right, Gilly. I appreciate your concern."
Just as we were about to resume our conversation, a gentle knock on the door disrupted the moment. The familiarity of the scent that wafted into the room told me who stood on the other side. I braced myself, both my human and wolf's instincts aware that Alessia's visit was not as simple as it appeared.
"Kiana, I've been wanting to catch up with you," Alessia said, her voice soft and inviting as she stepped into the room.
Alessia walked into my bedroom, which didn't surprise me. I was expecting her visit since I had been avoiding her."Hey, Kiana," Alessia offered a warm greeting. A faint smile graced her lips.I looked at Gilly, who quietly left my bed and closed the door behind her. My eyes locked onto Alessia's. "Alessia," I replied, my voice soft and full of emotion. "It's been too long."Alessia took a seat at the edge of my bed, her eyes scanning the room, which was adorned with bookshelves, paintings, and photographs. "Your room is beautiful; I can tell that your taste is much better than Dion's. Earlier, his room used to be so boring and bland," she chuckled. The implication that she had frequented Dion's bedroom earlier was not lost on me as I narrowed my eyes.Alessia's eyes sparkled with a mixture of fondness and concern. "You know, Kiana, I've missed you a lot in these two years. It's like a part of me was missing."I remained silent, my gaze fixed on Alessia. I knew my friend too well; s
A heavy silence lingered between us as Dion avoided my gaze, his eyes distant and evasive. "Yes, I hope you can understand," he finally murmured.I sneered, with a bitter edge to my tone. "Understand? How can I understand when everything has become a twisted mess?"My voice was quivering with a mix of frustration and hurt. "For over two years, I've worked hard, believing that you would notice me if I just kept trying. Why did everything changes when Alessia came back?"Dion sighed, his shoulders sagging as if under the weight of his own decisions. "Kiana, it's not that simple. I made a promise to Alessia, and I wanted to fulfil it."I couldn't bear to let him finish. Interrupting him, I shook my head in disbelief, feeling a sense of discouragement settle in. "A promise to Alessia? Is that all you care about? What about me?"Dion hesitated. "What has this got to do with you, Kiana?" I don't understand why you are being so unreasonable."I cut him off. "Unreasonable? Dion, I was so stu
Dion _I clutched the divorce agreement in my hand, a heavy weight settling in my chest. The sadness that gripped me was inexplicable. I had never considered divorce, and the reality of it left me bewildered. Why would Kiana, who had confessed her feelings for me, choose to end our marriage? As I sat there, trying to make sense of it all, memories of our passionate moments flooded my mind. She was so beautiful and responsive. My wolf loved her the moment I found out that she was my mate. I resisted the bond, all because of my stupid ego and a promise. My stubbornness had pushed her away. I never considered her feelings. It was natural that she felt insecure when Alessia returned to the pack. I should have asked for her opinion instead of taking my decision. The regret washed over me, intensifying the heaviness in my chest and fuelling the desire to fight for what we once had. "Why, Kiana?" I whispered to the surrounding emptiness, as if the answer lingered in the air. The room felt c
I left the pack behind, a choice I had never imagined I'd have to make. I couldn't stay with Dion any longer, not after what had transpired. I could get through the physical and mental pain of my miscarriage, thanks to my powerful ability to heal. I was proud of how strong I was because I was now standing on my own, ready to face a future I couldn't quite picture. I had never been on my own. But I knew enough about the humans to survive. I had some money, so I boarded the first bus I saw, heading towards a city I had never been to before.I arrived in the small, quaint town of Springdale. The town, nestled between rolling hills and dotted with charming cottages, seemed frozen in time—a perfect destination for tourists seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of city life. Little did they know that I, too, was seeking a fresh start, a chance to redefine myself beyond the shadows of my past.My first goal was simple—to find a job that would allow me to sustain myself. The windows of a
Kiana - "I am Lucas Randall. Alpha of the whispering shadows pack. Would you like to join my pack?" His voice boomed.I blinked, feeling the night's breeze caress my skin. The risks were high, and Lucas's offer was almost too good to be true. I couldn't take the chance of him finding out who I really was because it could flare up rivalry..I politely turned down Lucas's offer. "Thank you, Alpha Lucas, but I'd rather walk by myself. I don't want a pack."His smirk deepened, amusement glinting in his eyes. "Interesting," he mused, his voice a low rumble that resonated with the authority of an alpha."But every lone wolf, especially one as young and beautiful as yourself, is vulnerable. What is your name, lone wolf?"I paused, my gaze exploring the starry expanse surrounding us. I could not reveal my real name."Anya," I said, my voice firm. "I have always been a rogue wolf since my parents died. They were also rogues like me."Lucas's smile held a knowing edge. "Anya," he repeated, t
Dion I awoke as usual; the days passing with an uncanny routine after Kiana's disappearance. I continued with the routines that defined my existence, preserving the picture-perfect Alpha persona.Reports came in, business partners were met, and worried directors were given advice from experts. In the afternoons, I was always on time for meetings, and I was happy with how they turned out, which was up to my high standards. Even the extra worry of border disputes didn't interest me much; I just watched what was going on without feeling like I had to get involved. It all seemed pointless and unimportant. When I returned, Gary, my butler, offered apologies and bowed deeply, sensing the disappointment in my gaze. He had found no leads about Kiana's disappearance. I reiterated my command to find them, uninterested in hearing excuses."But, my Alpha-" he began, but I cut him off, dismissing his failure. "It's simply impossible for anyone to disappear without a single trace."I closed my ey
Kiana- I was lying in bed, and the soft light in the room took me to a dream world where the past came back to me like a vivid memory. I was standing in front of the packed school's enormous gates as a five-year-old. My platinum blonde hair was in ringlets around my face, and my eyes were a strange shade of purple.I saw the scene play out. Before I went into the schoolyard, I paused. My small hand held the strap of my backpack. The sound of laughter filled the air. But the laughter turned to whispers when the other kids saw me as the new kid who looked different."Look at her hair! Is it even real?" One child sneered, triggering giggles from the others.I felt a knot tighten in my stomach, trying to shrink away from the prying eyes. The teasing continued, making me feel even more self-conscious. I took a deep breath, reminding myself that I was strong and unique. That's what Mum told me. "Hey, purple eyes! Are you a vampire?"Another child called out, causing the laughter to escal
"You're doing great," Lucas said in a low voice. "A natural at this."I was itching to yell at him. I was feeling more like a trophy Lucas had earned. The trio of girls turned to go. I turned to talk to Lucas, but once more there was an interruption. For the following thirty minutes, this continued. Everyone who came up to us gushed about me and mentioned my relationship with Lucas multiple times. By the time the last one arrived, I had met so many people that I was overcome with names."I'm sorry, I need some air." I turned and ran outside, still feeling the eyes on me.I paced on the front porch. I debated going for a run or at least back to Lucas's house, but I didn't know the way and would likely get lost. When the door behind me opened, I didn't look, knowing who it was.Lucas remarked, "So that didn't go as planned. Please hold me responsible. I ought to have given you a head-up, or at least made them space it out.""Warned me that everyone thinks I'm your new mate?" I asked, fe
Kiana -Mr. Thomson stood in the centre of the room, his gaze shifting between me and the new arrival with a furrowed brow. It was hard not to feel the strain in the air; it was as if the air itself was holding its breath, ready for the eventual clash."Do you know him, Kiana?" Mr. Thomson's voice cut through the silence like a knife. My gaze flickered briefly towards Mr. Thomson before settling on Dion."Yes," I replied quietly, my voice barely above a whisper. "I do."Without waiting for further prompting, I turned on my heel, gesturing for Dion to follow me. He fell into a step besides me, his posture tense as we made our way outside into the cool night air.Once we were a safe distance from prying ears, I turned to face Dion, arms folded tightly across my chest. "Why are you here?" I demanded, my voice laced with a hint of defiance.Dion's eyes narrowed, his gaze locked on mine. "And why did you leave?" he shot back, his tone sharp with accusation.I bristled at his words, a flash
Dion -I gripped the steering wheel with a ferocious intensity that made my knuckles white. Anger seethed beneath the surface, a potent mix of frustration and resentment. Kiana was there, but she had slipped through my fingers once again.Alessia's incessant crying from the passenger seat only served to stoke the flames of my rage. Each wail felt like a dagger piercing through my already thin patience."For the love of Luna, Alessia, can you please just shut up?" I snapped, my voice laced with irritation.A trembling whimper temporarily replaced her crying. "I'm sorry," she stammered, fear evident in her voice. "I just... I just wanted to give you a good time.""A good time?" I scoffed incredulously. "I never asked for a 'good time'. Just do your duties and stay out of my life."Alessia recoiled at my harsh words, tears welling up in her eyes once more. "But... our mums were best friends," she pleaded, desperation colouring her voice. "You should take better care of me, Dion. You owe
Kiana - The constant beat of the club filled my senses, and the bright lights gave the writhing mass of people an alien glow. As I stumbled through the crowd, I was hazy with colours and memories that were all over the place.Lucas's frown deepened as he observed the erratic nature of my movements, recognising the telltale signs of my wolf taking control."Lucas!" I slurred. "Take me home. Please."Lucas, sensing the urgency in my plea, approached with a determined expression. "Sure thing, Kiana. Let's get you out of here."Without waiting for further explanation, Lucas wrapped a steady arm around me, guiding me away from the chaotic dance floor. The thumping music faded as we navigated through the crowd, the cool night air offering a brief respite from the intensity inside. The mingling scents of the city night overwhelmed my senses in the alley behind the club. I leant into Lucas, my grip on him tightening as my wolf struggled against the haze of intoxication."Lucas," I whispered,
Dion -Reluctantly, I stepped out of the sleek, black car, and my eyes scanned the vibrant neon lights adorning the entrance of the pulsating club. Alessia followed suit. She had insisted on a night out like the old times. I had no idea why I had agreed to her demands. The noise level inside the club was crazy, with people dancing and laughing and the music pounding. The smells of booze and sweat mixed, making an offensive smell that annoyed my already sensitive feelings. I agreed to go with Alessia, but I really didn't want to. For me, the bars were no longer appealing; instead, they left me with an ache that wouldn't go away.As we found a dimly lit corner to settle into, Alessia ordered a couple of drinks. I leant back, trying to blend into the background, my attention fixed on the swirling lights above. My mind, however, was a tempest of conflicting thoughts.Alessia, sensing my detachment, nudged me gently. "Loosen up, Dion. We're here to have fun, remember?"I forced a smile as
Lucas -I couldn't help but feel pleased with Kiana's progress after that night. Although Kiana had expressed her concerns about moving too fast, I refrained from joining her in the bedroom again. I decided to sleep on the couch until she indicated otherwise. The couch wasn't comfortable, and as I rose early, I took a shower and brewed some coffee. Sitting down in my office, I reviewed the extensive list of items everyone needed from town that day."Good morning," I greeted James as he walked in."So, how are things with Kiana?" James's voice sounded oddly excited."None of your business," I replied, injecting a playful tone."Come on! We want details. She seems like a strong woman. She will make a great Luna. Did you mark her?""I'm starting to understand why she thinks I'm moving too fast. No more spreadin
Kiana -"That's awful." I reached out and grabbed Lucas's hand. "What happened next?""I forbade her from returning or ever coming back to my pack again. Life didn't have the same flare as it once did. I couldn't have any free time, or I would start thinking about her and have this black pit form in my heart, so I did the unthinkable. Started working really hard.""What happened to her?""Well, her boyfriend, or lover, was a pack warrior. He was punished by his alpha for having an illicit affair with Luna. Both of them were thrown out of their pack.""So they became rogues ?" I asked."Yeah," they became rogues and were forced to fend for themselves in the wilderness. She tried to contact me a few times over the first few months. I didn't open her
Alessia sat at her vanity, her reflection distorted in the mirror as she angrily brushed her long hair. The room was filled with the scent of a special perfume she had acquired from the oracle, a fragrance meant to bring forth the blessings of fertility."Damm it, why am I not getting pregnant?" she muttered angrily, her hands gripping the brush tightly. She sighed, staring at herself in the mirror.Although Dion had warmed up to her, their intimacy remained a rare occurrence. He was always busy with the pack. He returned home late, often drunk, and his thoughts seemed haunted by Kiana.Alessia felt her patience waning with each passing day.The door creaked open, and Dion staggered into their room, his steps unsteady and his movements sluggish—a familiar sight for Alessia. She took a deep breath, swallowing her frustration, and immediately pasted a smile on her face as she approached him."Hey, Dion," she greeted, her voice a delicate mix of concern and forced cheerfulness. "How was
Kiana - "Your mate?" I asked. He nodded solemnly, his eyes filled with regret. Lucas took a deep breath, his eyes reflecting a blend of vulnerability and determination. "Kiana, I need you to know my past," Lucas began, his voice steady. Flashback: A Mating Ball Lucas - The mating ball dazzled with bright colours, a vibrant display that brought werewolves together in search of their destined mates. As I navigated the bustling crowd, my eyes scanned for someone to share my life with and complete the intricate puzzle of my destiny. And then, there she was—standing in the corner with a shy smile gracing her face. Our eyes met, and in that singular moment, I knew she was the one I had been searching for. Lisa, was beta from Dark moon pack, her eyes sparkling with intelligence and kindness. A warmth radiated from her that drew me in, and as our gazes locked, the mating bond ignited, a force that bound us together for eternity. "Hi, I'm Lucas." I introduced myself to the beauty stan
Kiana - Getting cleaned up felt like an eternal task. Just when I thought I had wiped away all traces of the previous night, another dried spot emerged, stubborn and inconspicuous. My hair, a tangled mess, proved to be a nightmare to brush and clean. What I was doing felt unfair. Lucas was awaiting the arrival of a mate who deserved to be the one to initiate sexual activity with him. Guilt gnawed at me; I was just like Alessia, snatching another man away from his mate, even if he had not found her. I couldn't bring myself to ruin someone else's chance at finding a soulmate. Besides, I had lied to him about my identity. We had no future. Eventually, Lucas would find his mate, and I would be left alone. Life, it seemed, was inherently unjust. After getting dressed, I returned to my room, and the tantalising aroma of bacon filled the air.
