“And so when everything was calmer, my mom and I scavenged through the forest helplessly until we found this village. It became our home.” He narrated.

“We were happy to see people like us here.” He exhaled sharply. “Apparently most of them shared the same fate, casted away, rejected, unwanted folks and no matter our differences. We have learnt to stay in unity and peace for as long as I can remember.” He narrated.

Tears gathered in my eyes and I felt their pain. Imagine if I didn’t have anywhere else to go or if he hadn’t rescued me from Thane’s men. What would have been my fate?

Perhaps, one day I will read about the founders of this village or probably I could get someone to tell me about its history and then I would write it down in a book so everyone else who comes into this village would know how it became and appreciate those who had come together to make sure the outcasts have a place in the world.

“Sorry about that, Luca. You and your mother have been through so much together

I couldn’t help the laughter that erupted through my lungs but I had to look ahead and focus on the race before me.I did my best to out run him but he still had a way to catch up with me. He slowed down and was now running at my own speed.“Who’s about to be the loser now, aye?” he raised a brow and sneered at me.I panted heavily, trying to catch my breath but I didn’t stop running. I laughed and shook my head, he wasn’t even putting half the effort I was putting in this race. For a kiss? That’s not gonna hurt, is it?It’s nothing, it's just a kiss. You can totally rest and catch your breath.Thoughts of giving up to catch my breath were more spontaneous than the thought of winning.“No!” I shook it off. “I won’t give up!” I muttered, building up courage, I increased my strides and fudged ahead. He was surprised at my sudden zeal and determination as I went five times more than my current speed. It so amazed him that he trotted behind while he watched me girdle up ahead.I only stop

  • Betrayal under the wolf’s moon   Chapter 14 :TRYING TO ESCAPE?

Where exactly in Thane’s pack was this seal?My mind started searching every nook and cranny of the library wondering if I had mistakenly seen it around and then I recalled vividly. In the midst of the growing love between Thane and I, he had shown me something. Something he claimed was a heritage to his pack and had been kept safe since they had possession of it.Silence cut through like a sword. “Its okay!” Della sighed, her words cutting through my thoughts. She got on her feet. “Since you’re one of us now,” She started. “You will have to undergo training in order to be able to survive here and protect our village against intruders.” She announced. She turned to leave but suddenly halted and turned to me. “Perhaps you could learn to fight like a warrior or learn to wield your powers.” She ended and continued walking towards her bedroom.I and Luca exchanged glances but didn’t say a word. Luca left the room, and now it was just I and Cara left. She too left eventually and I was b

“So you think people who would hurt you would heal you of your wounds?” I questioned. He looked at himself that moment and oddly remembered that all his injuries were gone and scar free.“I didn’t check anything. All I wanted to do was get to safety.” He replied. His words seemed honest but I wouldn’t know for sure.My eyes squinted as I looked at him intently. There was something off about him—something familiar.“What’s your name?” I tried again, this time more friendlier. The man hesitated at first, then he gulped and exhaled. “Nathan.” He answered.“Alright, Nathan.” Luca took over. “Why were you sneaking off in the middle of the night? If you wanted to know where you were, you would have waited until morning to talk to someone.” He questioned.Nathan hesitated again, his eyes landing on me for a brief moment before looking away. “Because I don’t trust any of you.” He replied.Luca scoffed. “You don’t trust us? Even after we found you wounded in the woods, brought you here and tre

Nathan clenched his jaw as his eyes darted between Della and the rest of us. He inhaled deeply before answering, his voice clothed with frustration. "I woke up in an unfamiliar place, okay? I didn’t know what to do, I didn't know if I was safe or not. So yes, I tried to leave.""You tried to leave.” Luca scoffed, shaking his head.Nathan shrugged despite his bounds.Della examined him for a long while, her countenance was blank and unreadable. Then, she sighed sharply and turned to me. "Mira, you seemed interested in what he had to say. What was he telling you?"I hesitated. How could I explain it? How could I explain that the moment he said he knew my parents, a storm was stirred inside me? That for the first time in a long time, I felt like I was on the verge of understanding who I was."He told me he knew my parents," I admitted, my voice almost a whisper.Della’s eyes narrowed slightly, but she remained composed. "And you believed him?"Luca scoffed. "Of course, she shouldn’t, th

Nathan sat speechlessly, staring at Cara as though she had placed him in a tight spot.“What?” Luca cut in. “Cat got your tongue?” Nathan sighed and readjusted himself in his seat. “After the fall of Ethan's pack.” He began. “I ran away for safety and joined a new pack but it was difficult to fit in. I disguised myself into a lot of things in order to make a name for myself but each one I ventured into was horrible, I had difficulty gaining acceptance.” He said.“That doesn’t answer our question!” Cara interrupted.“I stole something valuable, okay?” he half yelled then regained his composure, he exhaled deeply and continued. “I’m sorry.” He apologized.“Go on.” Della said, not feeling offended by his outrageousness, after all his apology was nothing compared to the information she was about to get from him.“I took something valuable, I saw something I shouldn’t have seen too so they came for my head.” He replied. “… but I wasn’t lucky enough to escape. I was betrayed and they disco

He chuckled at first. “If there’s anything I don’t do, it’s lie.” He said leaning on the threshold.“I could say half truths or conceal the truth but I would never lie. Why would I?” he spread his arms.I murmured inaudibly. I wasn’t sure if to ask him this, but perhaps I should and get it off my chest.“So was my mother from this village?” I spoke.“That, I do not know.” He replied genuinely.“ I only know about her marriage to Alpha Ethan and her duties to the pack. I don’t know anything else before that.” He replied and I could sense honesty in his voice.“It’s okay.” I nodded. “Have a goodnight then.” I said moving away from him.“Thank you.” He smiled and got into his room, closing the door behind him.On my way to my room, I saw those same familiar red dazzling eyes looming in the dark. “Oh my gosh!” I screamed in fear immediately it lunged at me but my fear subsided the moment I realized it was Luca, a faint moonlight shone on his face. “How did you know where I was?” the she-wolf asked grumpily.“You’re my business remember?.” He said picking Nathan up with his fangs by the waist where he had few strapped clothes on. “I’m always on the lookout for you,” he added.Nathan rolled his eyes at the outdated love tales while allowing himself to be carried away. It was useless to protest. In the interrogatory room, where they finally agreed to take him to. The two wolves switched back to their human. Suddenly, something about the girl struck a chord in his mind that he couldn’t get a grasp of… especially that tattoo she had on the nape of her neck.He rummaged and rummaged and looked through his mind for possible clues, trying to fit every person he has ever met in her profile but found nothing until he tried one and that's when he gasped. He had realized who she was.No way!!!*REALITY*Likened to the time when the light of revelation flooded his mind and it dawned on him who Mira truly was, his eyelids twitched and furro

My eyes shot open immediately and I saw myself in a place I couldn’t recognize. Before me was a house rising in flames that no one could put out and the screams got even louder and achier. I felt hot liquid ooze out of my ears and I took my fingers there. I picked the hot liquid and cried shakily when I saw what it was… my own blood.“What the fuck!” I muttered under my breath.Where am I? I wondered, looking round.Just as I turned, my eyes fell on a pretty blonde little girl hiding under her bed, shaken to her core by fear, until her mother came and reached out to her. She held her hands, pulling her out of the darkness and comforting her. For once she felt safe, but they weren’t safe. The soldiers, their enemies were coming for them.I turned again and saw an angry confrontation between a blonde haired man and a dark haired man. They both seemed oblivious as they stared at each other with such great fury, tearing down each other’s body and everything they held dear.Suddenly a col

“Keep tempting me with those lips and I’ll show everyone how much you drive me crazy.” He said getting closer to me and my eyes widened in surprise… “Okay, Okay, stop… stop—” I used both my hands to push him away and to stop him from coming any closer. I wouldn’t be able to resist him if he gets too close. “Stop okay?”I didn't mean to push him too far, gosh! Why would he want to kiss me in public?"Fine!" I sighed. "Let's just keep moving." I said putting my hands down. He looked at me for a while then he turned and started walking forward, I joined him. Together, we moved."Mira, Luca, wait up!" We heard a familiar voice yell our names behind us and we stopped and waited, searching for her while the crowd went by us, moving ahead… It was Cara."Is training over for you as well?" I asked once she came in close proximity."Training is over for everyone. Luca said so." She pointed at him."Yes." Luca accepted. "They ruined my mood. I don't feel like training anymore." He added."Perh

  • Betrayal under the wolf’s moon    HE DIDN'T LISTEN.

Falcon scoffed. “You wouldn’t dare." His eyes narrowed. "I have a blade, you have nothing!”Luca smiled, then in a swift motion—like a snake he moved. One second he was standing still, the next moment, Falcon’s blade was on the ground and Nathan was stepping aside, untouched –his hands still in the air. When he noticed he was free, he pretentiously dusted his coat, mocking Falcon and Bren.Luca had disarmed him in a blink. Falcon stumbled back in shock, Luca grabbed his wrist and twisted his arm behind him. Luca had his other arm carrying Falcon’s other hand to the back of his head rendering him completely helpless.Bren pulled out his weapon—but I was quick enough to notice him so I stepped right in front of him and sent a fist through his gut—clumsy but powerful—and he buckled just enough for one of the trainees to yank the blade from his hand.Luca smiled at me, I'm sure he was proud. "Impressive!" He smirked.“I’m getting better, huh?” I muttered, my eye was widened in shock and s

  • Betrayal under the wolf’s moon   Chapter 32 : WHAT WAS THAT?

I followed his gaze, and there, a little distance into the woods, by the tree trunk, a flicker of movement caught my attention. A shadow—quick and low to the ground—vanished behind a tree.“Did you see that?” he asked, wiping sweat drops off his brow.I nodded slowly. “You’re not crazy.” I whispered loudly.“That’s a first,” he muttered.Luca’s stance shifted immediately. He was more serious now. “Stay behind me." He said to me.And then, like a bad storm rolling in, the energy in the air changed.I felt it too. That strange hum… like a current pressing against my skin. I wasn’t sure if it was fear or power, but something unusual was definitely coming.Luca raised one hand, a silent signal to the rest of the fighters to pause. They obeyed immediately—most of them sensing what we had felt too. That strange pull in the air, thick and humming like a plucked string.A rustle in the bushes followed by the crack of a dry twig. Then silence.I held my breath. And out of the shadows stepped—N

“Well.” He shrugged. “You’re always welcome to be on either side of the team.” He said.“So I can start with you right away?” I asked, a little excited but uncertain.“Of course.” He said moving towards his team and I swallowed a huge gulp turning to Cara with anxiety written all over my face.“You’ve got this!” she gave me a thumbs up and a wide grin.I nodded and walked clumsily down there. “Hi. Everybody.” I waved but none of them heard me except a few, the rest were still busy training vigorously.Luca clapped his hands, calling their attention. “Listen up!” he half yelled. They immediately paused and turned to him.“We have a new member on our team!” he said pointing at me, “Mirabelle.” He added and they cheered. “Welcome Mirabelle.” Most chorused, others looked at me like I missed my way there. A lady for that matter!Their eyes scoring through my body, visibly weighing my flabby, feeble arms and weak legs. How can I ever throw a punch or a power kick with any of these? I was

  • Betrayal under the wolf’s moon   Chapter 30 : STILL NOTHING!

I fell to the grass disappointed. I got up relentlessly, deciding to try again. Beads of sweat drops formed above my brows—on my forehead—and I could feel it trickle down my face. I wiped it off on my clothes and stayed focused. I did everything I could, everything I knew of—still nothing.I threw fists in the air and yelled at the universe. I was mad at it for making me this helpless! Then I sat to receive some cool air from the breeze blowing by, that’s when I realized that I had released way too much air into the wind while I was throwing a tantrum.Excited. I decided to sit with my legs crossed and try to stir my powers again—one last time. I was hopeful. I was excited. Focused. I felt it move within me like a string of energy, stirred and coursed right from the depth of my heart, into my body parts and my hand like a moving sand worm and into every cell and vessel, my metacarpals and carpals, skin, pore, every ounce of biology in my finger… I was expectant, waiting for it to

  • Betrayal under the wolf’s moon   Chapter 29 : “SHE IS.”

Cara pointed at a messy looking lady and I squinted my eyes as I couldn’t see her well due to the burning sensation of the sun.“What’s her name?” I whispered loudly.“Hey!!” the teacher turned, snapping her cane at us. “No noise making! Now listen!!” she commanded.“You’re welcome Mira.” She said, I guess finally taking notice of me. “Do well to have a seat or a stand, however you may please.” she said nonchalantly. “I am Juan, your trainer.” She added.“Thank you, Miss Juan.” I said, trying to be as polite as I could. She danced her way to the others whom she had been training on and I turned to Cara.“Is this where you spend most of your day?” I asked, my eyebrows twitching in confusion. “Yeah.” She smiled.“I’m definitely calling in sick tomorrow.” I grimaced, my face turning pale at the thought of being tutored by this grumpy lady. I was scared of her, she looked scary. I won’t understand anything she’s saying because her face looks like it’s constantly screaming at someone for

  • Betrayal under the wolf’s moon   Chapter 28 : MIRA'S POV

I got dressed and stepped into the room. My eyes ran to where the book was—its obvious Della knows what the book is for and the significance it holds except for the fact that no one else is able to use it like I could once I finally access my powers after getting the seal. The drawer seemed untampered with and just for confirmation, I pretended to get my locket from it which gave me access to the drawer and that’s when I checked if it was still there and behold it was still there.“Are you done?” she asked even though it was obvious that I was.“Yes.” I nodded, straightening my outfit.“Good. Come with me, I would like to show you something.” She said and I obliged. I followed her and we walked into the field… far deep into the woods, away from the village, the village was more like a fraction of distant objects now. Then she raised her head and looked up. Curiosity stroke me and I looked up too, wondering what she was looking at.I couldn’t see it, didn’t know what she was looking at

  • Betrayal under the wolf’s moon   Chapter 27 : THIS IS…DIFFERENT

Rosa waited patiently for the evening to come. She was told, she had been warned—about the outside world, the need to stay hidden, the danger of being seen. But there was something about his voice… his smiles… They were more compelling than anything in the world.“I’ll be waiting for you Rosa,” his voice echoed through her mind. She was convinced that he was a gentleman, one she found intriguing and soon, before the sun completely set at dusk. Rosa had quietly slipped through the barrier. Her cloak wrapped around her shoulders tightly, she moved like the wind, quickly past the trees, her heart pounding inside her chest with fear and excitement.Right there, at the banks of the narrow little stream, she had found him—waiting, just like he said he would. He wore a lazy grin as she approached. Propped against a tree with a bandage around his leg. “I knew you’d come,” he said confidently.Rosa folded her arms. “Oh really? And what made you so sure?”“I had a good feeling you would,”

Rosa glanced at him. “Is that what you were doing out here? Running away from responsibilities?” she asked, her brow arching in curiosity. He chuckled. “No, not really.” He shrugged. “I was hunting.” He said. “Took a wrong turn. Ended up in a ditch instead of with a deer.” He chuckled, feeling ashamed. It was embarrassing. She smirked. “Smooth.”They walked in silence again, the woods slowly coming to an end, revealing a small, narrow stream with glistening waters. Ethan decided to lower himself down by the bank, breathing heavily. His leg was still hurting.“Let me check it again,” Rosa offered, kneeling beside him.“You know,” he said as she examined his bandage, “You’re very… mysterious. Not like the other wolves I’ve met.” He added.“That’s because I’m not like the others.” She retorted. He tilted his head sidewards, looking at her like a mysterious creature he was yet to unravel. “What are you then?” as his gaze landed on her, his mind tried to read her thoughts even though that
