Miranda POV
“I love you too,” I say to Rick. My voice is raspy as I squeak out my words. I had listened to him tell me he loved me, and I had wanted to reply but couldn’t. Being able to finally get the words out, they were the first thing I wanted to say to him. As I looked at him, I saw his face light up and he kissed me again. Putting both my hands on his cheeks I held his face to me. I didn’t want him to stop kissing me.
As he pulled back, I heard the door open and see Kate and Colby walk into the door. Kate was smiling as she looked at me. “I’m so glad to see you awake,” she says as she came over to my side. “You are much stronger than I expected,” Kate says. I smile at her. I want to talk but my throat feels like I swallowed a barbwire. “You can expect your throat t

Alpha POV That shut the little fucker up. He was so arrogant and thought he had all the answers. His parents may have told him some of the truth, but they didn’t know all the truth to be told. I never shared with them that Anya was my mate. Only that they had to get her to be the Luna for the Black Shadow Pack. The fact that Alpha Jared was fighting this was starting to piss me off. He was ruining all my plans for the future. I would eventually have Anya, I simply had to bide my time until that happened. As I fought the urge to spit in his face, I sat there smugly as he and his Beta and Gamma looked at one another. “Then why would she choose to be with me? Why would you allow it given that you had your own Pa
Jared POV My steps falter as I hear Lily’s scream of agony. As I walk around the corner, I see Anya sitting there with a smug look on her face. Before I am willing to deal with her, I knock on Miranda’s door. I have decided how I am going to proceed with Anya. I won’t lose Lily. Walking in, I see Rick sitting there with Miranda in his arms. “Jared, I can help,” Miranda says. “I have more powers than I have shared with you, and I have resources that can help,” she continues. “Miranda, we will always take whatever help you can give us when we need it,” I say. Moving closer to Rick I share with him what I am going to do with Anya. I don’t care what deals went on; she’s done. Seeing Rick’s smile, he nods and gives Miranda a quick kiss. She wants to come but she is not ready to leave the hospital yet. Waving to her, Rick and I leave th
Lily POV It has been two months since I saw Jared. I have not heard from him since I left, and I have been unable to reach Miranda to see what she knew about the situation. Kate and Colby were working with the Wolf Council but have had limited success to date. I have spent my days training. I promised myself I would be stronger and that has been my focus. I do regular training with the Pack as well as one on one with Kate. She’s seen a significant improvement. I have even had a chance to help fight some rogues off while I have stayed here. I have done it before but not to my full ability as I can now. But I realize I can’t stay here forever. I have been hiding from my past and future. I need to start li
Jared POV As Alpha Raymond drops her dead body to the floor, Rick, Alex, and I look on in stunned silence. Alpha Ryan simply looks on in amusement. As Alpha Raymond returns to the table to continue the meeting, we all slowly turn in our chairs from looking at Anya’s dead body. Don’t misunderstand; I am thrilled that she is gone. I simply don’t know what this means for Alpha Raymond given that the Wolf Council are here today and have witnessed the destruction of a she-wolf. “You took a big risk, Alpha Raymond,” Alpha Ryan states. “How do you figure?” Alpha Raymond asks. “Had we not agreed with your punishment for this female, you yourself could be on your way to jail,” Alpha Ryan says. “I have no regrets. She killed my mate. She deserved to die,” Raymond says. &nb
Lily POV I had heard from Jared once asking where I was. I didn’t respond to him. I had grown angry with him for letting me leave. I knew it wasn’t realistic. I had been the one to want to leave but I still felt betrayed that he had allowed me to go. I know it was for my own protection in his mind; I simply had unrealistic emotions around it. I had been home for a month now. I had already slipped back into my old life. Kate had gone back to Colby just last week. She had much to deal with, but she missed Colby and Amelie and needed to see them before she returned for the semi-annual ball. Colby and Amelie had returned with her last night so they would have time to prepare for attending the Summer Ball. The Summer Ball was taking place tonight. &n
Lily POV “It took you long enough to remember me,” I say to Jared in disgust. Being in his arms is tricking me. I want to hold onto my anger, but I am slowly falling into the trap of loving him. “I never forgot you, Lily. So much has happened that I want to share with you, but what I want most of all is to have you in my arms,” he says to me. “I want a do over of the night when we met six months ago,” he continues. “I should have grabbed a hold of you and never you let you go, Lily. I’m doing that now. I won’t take no for an answer and I sure as hell am not leaving here without you!” he says. Feeling a flit of butterflies in my stomach, this is the first time I have heard Jared talk with such confidence. Sure, he w
Lily POV Feeling Jared beneath my arm, I snuggle closer to him. I can’t believe it’s morning already. As I remember everything that happened last night, I can’t believe how different everything ended to what I expected. I smile as I remember Jared marking me and me marking him. They say being with your mate is amazing but being with your mate after you mark them is even more special. As I lay there dreamily thinking about everything, I jump up and squeal. I startle Jared as he jumps up thinking there is a threat in the room. I have a mark! What the hell am I doing? I should be looking at it. Jumping out of bed, I didn’t realize I had verbalized this as Jared laughed getting out of bed much slower than me and follows behind me.
Kate POV As I walked back to the Pack House, I go to the washroom to wash my hands and do a refresh before I head into our meeting. As I look up Colby comes up behind me putting his hands on my shoulders. “Are you okay?” he asks me. “Of course, why wouldn’t I be?” I ask a little harshly. “Well, it seems like you get rid of one threat, and another just pops up yet again. I just want to know my girl is alright,” he says turning me around to kiss my forehead. Sliding into his arms, “I am good, Colby. Please don’t question my authority again, though,” I say to him as I step back. “What do you mean?” he asks somewhat perplexed. “When Reid didn’t contact me, I want to know what’s going on. Please don’t stop them from contacting me again,” I ask. Chuckling Colby offers, “Kate, I wasn
Jared POV It’s been four months since I woke up after the big fight. Things quickly got back to normal. Lily’s pregnancy progressed with many challenges and bed rest, which drove all of us crazy. She did not do well not being able to move. But she would do anything for the pup. I was holding our newborn Alpha while Lily slept. She had just delivered him. After a lengthy labour, it was decided we needed to do an emergency caesarian for the safety of both the pup and Lily. Doctor Kent didn’t know if Lily would be able to have any more pups, but we wouldn’t worry about that today. Today was a day to celebrate. Our pup was born, Alex Richard Montgomery. We both agreed we wanted to name our son after Alex. Not onl
Lily POV Three weeks we have been waiting for Jared to wake up. Three weeks of increased anxiety. My wolf, Missy, has not been able to reach Jared’s wolf. We haven’t had any encouraging movements from him. No hints that he is waking. The tubes have been removed from his throat, so he is breathing on his own now. He simply isn’t waking up. Rick has taken over running the Pack. We had to lay Alex and the other warriors to rest. We couldn’t wait any longer for Jared to wake up. We hadn’t wanted to tell him of our losses but we had to so he would know we were going forward with the traditional services for our lost. Not that we knew if he heard us or understood. Elder Morris conducted the services for us.&n
Lily POV Pregnant. I am pregnant. “How is this possible, Doctor Kent?” I ask confused. I knew it was a remote possibility. I had prayed to the Moon Goddess for this moment, but I had expected to be able to share it with Jared. “I admit, Luna, it’s a shock to me. A pleasant shock, mind you,” Doctor Kent replies. Nodding I’m confused and scared. “Did my shifting do any damage to the pup?” I ask the doctor. “No, it seems your wolf protected the pup. It’s still early days of your pregnancy, but you are most definitely pregnant, Lily,” the doctor says gently. “I want to caution you Lily. This is a high-risk pregnancy, Lily. You need to take care of yourself. Eat properly, don’t neglect your health as we wait for the Alpha to come out of his coma. You need to be pr
Rick POV Standing back, I put my hands on top of my head. This has been a long ass night and getting rid of the dead will take more time. Looking at my warriors, I can see they are exhausted, but I am grateful to every one of them for standing with Miranda, her mother and me. As I look at Elder Morris’s body I am saddened to see Miranda’s mother draped over his body. We knew there would be casualties in this war, but you are never prepared for the losses. Pulling Miranda into my arms again, I murmur to her we need to go. I need to check on Jared, Alex, and Lily. “You go ahead, Rick, I am going to stay with my mother and then I will be along,” Miranda says. Kissing the top of her head, “I’m proud of you baby,” I say to her before I shift to take off back to the Pack hospital.
Miranda POV “Elder Morris?” I ask. I’m confused. This gentle man cannot be behind the attacks on the Black Shadow Pack. He just couldn’t be. He smiles as he comes to stand before me. “Aren’t you going to ask me, Miranda?” he says. “Ask you what?” I ask him cautiously. “If I’m your daddy dearest, of course,” he says. This is not the same man we have all known as Elder Morris. He’s speaking too coldly for anything else to make sense. “Elder Morris, you aren’t my father,” I reply cautiously. “Of course, I’m not your father Miranda. I am your father’s ally in his attempts to get you back. Your mother took you from him many years ago. Do you even remember your father, Miranda?” Elder Morris asks. “No,” I answer confused. I could not wrap my head around how Elder Morris knows my father. “He was a good man a
Jared POV It had been a couple weeks since the Beta Female ceremony. Everyone had been walking on eggshells and tensions were running higher among the Pack. We were waiting for an enemy we couldn’t see or prepare for. We were as prepared as we could be. With the power that Melinda released on everyone, our warriors were stronger than they had been. They were fighting harder and were able to shift to their wolves faster. Everyone was in awe of Melinda and her power. She trained alongside everyone, sparring in both human and wolf form. You would think she had been a wolf her entire life, the way she fought. Rick was proud of his mate. We were all proud to have her as our Beta Female. Lily’s headaches had
Miranda POV The past three days had been a whirlwind. When Lily was set on a mission she delivered. As I sat there having my hair done, I was shocked to see Lily come in all ready and passing me a glass of champagne. She had a stunning dress on, as always. She was wearing a black gown, which fell to her ankles. The bottom of the gown had a slit up to the thigh of her right leg. The top of the dress had sleeves with a vee neck. The back had a tiny button closure at the top with an opening to her waist. She wore gold jewelry to accent the dress and stay in line with the Pack colors. She had brought me in a gift as well. As she passed it to me, my hands shook. I gasped as I opened it. Inside was a white gold necklace with a diamond at the centre of the necklace.
Miranda POV“My father?” I ask confused. I had never met my father. I never knew who he was. It wasn’t unusual in our world to not know who fathered us. As I had said, we weren’t close to our families. “How would he even know about me?” I asked my mother. “He’s always known, Miranda. He’s a powerful man, with many powers. I had no idea he would be tracking your progress,” she says sadly.“How could he track my progress?” I ask. “He has the gift of sight; he can see the future,” she replies. “What has he seen?” I ask desperately. “I have no idea, we only heard rumblings that he was coming out of hiding. He’s been hiding since your birth, putting his plans together for when the time was right,” she says sounding very upset.“Why is the Witch’s Council sending me on an assignment tomorrow?” I ask. “On assignment, what do you mean?” she asks. I explained I had placed a call to my contact who advised I needed to go in tomorrow and to expect to be away for a month. She gasped, “He’s
Rick POV The night Miranda had finished her first shift had exhausted her. When we returned to our clothes, I helped her get dressed and carried her back to our suite. She had already been asleep when I slid her into bed. She had more fun than she had expected and was looking forward to her next run. As soon as everyone learned she had shifted, we had agreed we needed to start training her for her protection. She was a quick study, catching onto the different defense moves. Today we were moving toward training her in offense. She had shifted into her wolf a couple times now. As I had promised her the first shift was the hardest and she was shifting faster and with less pain. Soon she would be able to shift in motion. &nbs
