Jared POV
As Rick and I walk into the Shadow Club we look around at the extensive renovations that had taken place in recent months. We were almost ready to reopen under new management and with a new look. As with most clubs on Pack land, we do have humans who visit our clubs. There is an obvious rule we don’t discuss who we are. We can mingle and there are times when our wolves may have a human mate. Depending on the Pack that can either go well or be challenging. Not all Packs accept human mates within their circle. We are an open Pack and have a few couples where one is a wolf, and one is human. There is also an assumption that the humans are females but, in our case, there are two human males in our Pack. The all contribute and work in their areas of expertise.

Jared POV “Where is she?!?” demands Alpha Kate Adams as she storms through the Pack hospital doors. She is accompanied by another male; he doesn’t seem like her mate but someone close to her. Putting my hands up to slow her down, she points her finger at me jabbing me in the chest, “You had one responsibility! To protect her and now she is sitting somewhere fighting for her life. How did this happen?!?” she questions. To say Alpha Kate is a fireball would be an understatement. From what I recall of Lily saying when speaking of Kate, they have been best friends since they were children and grew up together. You could see the love and concern in Kate’s eyes. Realizing I hadn’t answered her yet, I looked to her and the man beside her. &
Lily POV Holding my head, I am screaming in pain. Jared is yelling for the medical staff; Doctor Kent comes running into the room. “What is it, Lily? What’s happening?” he asks. “So much pressure, like my head is going to explode,” I say. I can barely catch my breath from the pain coming from my head. As Kent examines me, he first administers a pain killer to numb the pain. It takes some of the pressure I feel off me, but the pain is still there. Breathing a bit easier, I feel sweat dripping down my head. Jared grabs a cloth to wipe my face, as Kent considers the possibilities. “I’m concerned that we may need to go back in and relieve some pressure on your brain, Lily,” he tells us. “No, I don’t want to sleep for a
Lily POV “Jared, you are scaring me. What did you mean, I worried for nothing?” I ask. As Jared was about to respond Kent came in looking at us both expectantly. Jared started, “she doesn’t remember she was worried,” he says. I don’t remember, what does that mean? Did something happen in the latest surgery? I remember surgery, I don’t remember anything else. “Did everything go well with the surgery Kent? Did something go wrong?” I ask in fear. “No, no Lily,” Kent starts to assure me as he pushes me back down to lay on the bed. I had not realized I had pushed forward when he came in. “One of the blockages involved an area of your brain that affects short term memory. There is no indication you will have any issues aside from some short-lived side effects,” he says. &nbs
Lily POV Hugging Jared tight, I still desperately need a shower. As I step back, I start removing my clothes. I had lost a few pounds in the hospital this past week, and I was feeling a little less sexy as a result. The look on Jared’s face assured me I was still sexy. I giggled as I removed my bra and he reaches to touch my breasts. Stepping back, I tease, “Not so fast mister, I want to see all of you.”. Not needing anymore encouragement, Jared removes his clothes off faster than I could remove mine. Kicking our clothes out of the way, Jared moves forward toward me pulling me into his arms, “I was so scared for you Lily,” he admits quietly. Hugging him tighter, “I’m on the mend now Jared,” I say. “I know you are Lily; I know. I just want all your memories back, so you
Jared POV Having just gotten off the phone with Alpha Kate, she confirmed she would be attending Lily’s Luna ceremony with Colby. She also confirmed Miranda, the witch, was on her way. When she arrived, she would literally pop in; meaning she would come in an untraditional manner. We could expect her in the next couple days. With that off my mind, I decided it was time to go check on Lily. I had only been away from her for a short period of time, but I was already missing her immensely. As I shut my office door and turned to leave, I ran into my mother once again. She had been after me to be able to see Lily. For someone who did not like the idea of her in the first place, she certainly seemed to have changed her mind now.&
Lily POV It’s been a few days since we had seen Jared’s mom. His dad had reached out to him as well trying to talk but Jared refused to talk to either of them. I didn’t want to come between him and his parents, but he assured me I was not. They had gone too far, and he didn’t know what to believe about them anymore. Jared had been acting funny the past week, it seemed every time I entered a room whomever he was talking to he would stop talking. I didn’t know what was going on, but I felt like he was working on some kind of surprise for me. I was not sure what it could be but I do love a surprise so I was getting excited trying to imagine what it could be. Jared and I continued to get closer, which has been amazing. I still can
Lily POV As Jared and I were just getting ready to eat, Rick and Miranda come back into the room. Rick has his arm around Miranda’s waist as Miranda looks like she would rather be anywhere else. As Rick helps Miranda to sit beside him, I smirk over at her. She always thought the mating of wolves was not something she would entertain. She felt women should be able to choose. That her mate is a wolf is serendipitous. As Rick sits down, he helps Miranda get some of the delicious food prepared and then serves himself. As they are ready to eat, Rick looks up and looks at Jared, Alex, and me staring at the pair. He is beaming as he says, “She’s my mate. Now you guys just have to help me convince her to give me a chance,” he says. You can tell Rick is already smitten. &
Miranda POV After finishing an early supper, I went to my room. I needed some time alone away from everyone to process what the Moon Goddess had done. Giving me a wolf for a mate was rarely heard of. How could this even work? I had no idea. I was here to figure out who was trying to hurt Lily. I had picked up on a couple subtle things while out for our walk. I would share that information with them all early tomorrow morning. Rick had told me about the surprise ceremony for Lily in a couple days so we had to do things early tomorrow as Lily had some visitors who would be joining her later in the morning and then later again Kate would be here. I was looking forward to seeing Kate again. It was hard to believe it had been only a couple years since we last saw each other yet so much had happened
Jared POV It’s been four months since I woke up after the big fight. Things quickly got back to normal. Lily’s pregnancy progressed with many challenges and bed rest, which drove all of us crazy. She did not do well not being able to move. But she would do anything for the pup. I was holding our newborn Alpha while Lily slept. She had just delivered him. After a lengthy labour, it was decided we needed to do an emergency caesarian for the safety of both the pup and Lily. Doctor Kent didn’t know if Lily would be able to have any more pups, but we wouldn’t worry about that today. Today was a day to celebrate. Our pup was born, Alex Richard Montgomery. We both agreed we wanted to name our son after Alex. Not onl
Lily POV Three weeks we have been waiting for Jared to wake up. Three weeks of increased anxiety. My wolf, Missy, has not been able to reach Jared’s wolf. We haven’t had any encouraging movements from him. No hints that he is waking. The tubes have been removed from his throat, so he is breathing on his own now. He simply isn’t waking up. Rick has taken over running the Pack. We had to lay Alex and the other warriors to rest. We couldn’t wait any longer for Jared to wake up. We hadn’t wanted to tell him of our losses but we had to so he would know we were going forward with the traditional services for our lost. Not that we knew if he heard us or understood. Elder Morris conducted the services for us.&n
Lily POV Pregnant. I am pregnant. “How is this possible, Doctor Kent?” I ask confused. I knew it was a remote possibility. I had prayed to the Moon Goddess for this moment, but I had expected to be able to share it with Jared. “I admit, Luna, it’s a shock to me. A pleasant shock, mind you,” Doctor Kent replies. Nodding I’m confused and scared. “Did my shifting do any damage to the pup?” I ask the doctor. “No, it seems your wolf protected the pup. It’s still early days of your pregnancy, but you are most definitely pregnant, Lily,” the doctor says gently. “I want to caution you Lily. This is a high-risk pregnancy, Lily. You need to take care of yourself. Eat properly, don’t neglect your health as we wait for the Alpha to come out of his coma. You need to be pr
Rick POV Standing back, I put my hands on top of my head. This has been a long ass night and getting rid of the dead will take more time. Looking at my warriors, I can see they are exhausted, but I am grateful to every one of them for standing with Miranda, her mother and me. As I look at Elder Morris’s body I am saddened to see Miranda’s mother draped over his body. We knew there would be casualties in this war, but you are never prepared for the losses. Pulling Miranda into my arms again, I murmur to her we need to go. I need to check on Jared, Alex, and Lily. “You go ahead, Rick, I am going to stay with my mother and then I will be along,” Miranda says. Kissing the top of her head, “I’m proud of you baby,” I say to her before I shift to take off back to the Pack hospital.
Miranda POV “Elder Morris?” I ask. I’m confused. This gentle man cannot be behind the attacks on the Black Shadow Pack. He just couldn’t be. He smiles as he comes to stand before me. “Aren’t you going to ask me, Miranda?” he says. “Ask you what?” I ask him cautiously. “If I’m your daddy dearest, of course,” he says. This is not the same man we have all known as Elder Morris. He’s speaking too coldly for anything else to make sense. “Elder Morris, you aren’t my father,” I reply cautiously. “Of course, I’m not your father Miranda. I am your father’s ally in his attempts to get you back. Your mother took you from him many years ago. Do you even remember your father, Miranda?” Elder Morris asks. “No,” I answer confused. I could not wrap my head around how Elder Morris knows my father. “He was a good man a
Jared POV It had been a couple weeks since the Beta Female ceremony. Everyone had been walking on eggshells and tensions were running higher among the Pack. We were waiting for an enemy we couldn’t see or prepare for. We were as prepared as we could be. With the power that Melinda released on everyone, our warriors were stronger than they had been. They were fighting harder and were able to shift to their wolves faster. Everyone was in awe of Melinda and her power. She trained alongside everyone, sparring in both human and wolf form. You would think she had been a wolf her entire life, the way she fought. Rick was proud of his mate. We were all proud to have her as our Beta Female. Lily’s headaches had
Miranda POV The past three days had been a whirlwind. When Lily was set on a mission she delivered. As I sat there having my hair done, I was shocked to see Lily come in all ready and passing me a glass of champagne. She had a stunning dress on, as always. She was wearing a black gown, which fell to her ankles. The bottom of the gown had a slit up to the thigh of her right leg. The top of the dress had sleeves with a vee neck. The back had a tiny button closure at the top with an opening to her waist. She wore gold jewelry to accent the dress and stay in line with the Pack colors. She had brought me in a gift as well. As she passed it to me, my hands shook. I gasped as I opened it. Inside was a white gold necklace with a diamond at the centre of the necklace.
Miranda POV“My father?” I ask confused. I had never met my father. I never knew who he was. It wasn’t unusual in our world to not know who fathered us. As I had said, we weren’t close to our families. “How would he even know about me?” I asked my mother. “He’s always known, Miranda. He’s a powerful man, with many powers. I had no idea he would be tracking your progress,” she says sadly.“How could he track my progress?” I ask. “He has the gift of sight; he can see the future,” she replies. “What has he seen?” I ask desperately. “I have no idea, we only heard rumblings that he was coming out of hiding. He’s been hiding since your birth, putting his plans together for when the time was right,” she says sounding very upset.“Why is the Witch’s Council sending me on an assignment tomorrow?” I ask. “On assignment, what do you mean?” she asks. I explained I had placed a call to my contact who advised I needed to go in tomorrow and to expect to be away for a month. She gasped, “He’s
Rick POV The night Miranda had finished her first shift had exhausted her. When we returned to our clothes, I helped her get dressed and carried her back to our suite. She had already been asleep when I slid her into bed. She had more fun than she had expected and was looking forward to her next run. As soon as everyone learned she had shifted, we had agreed we needed to start training her for her protection. She was a quick study, catching onto the different defense moves. Today we were moving toward training her in offense. She had shifted into her wolf a couple times now. As I had promised her the first shift was the hardest and she was shifting faster and with less pain. Soon she would be able to shift in motion. &nbs
