I reviewed Amy’s resume again. It was quite impressive. She had a degree in child development and, as she said, she minored in child psychology. The confidence in her voice and the way she answered were both excellent. I may have pushed a few buttons, but I do not want to risk anything about the future of my child.

“So, who do we like? I think we can agree that Amy is the one.” Mark barged into my office before I could delve deeper in my thoughts.

“Are you following her like a puppy dog now?” I asked, arching an eyebrow.

He smirked, “Well, no, I was just getting acquainted with Liam’s future nanny.”

“Who said that she was Liam’s nanny? Nothing is final yet,” I replied, trying to maintain a professional tone.

“Oh please, if you did not prefer her as Liam’s nanny, you would throw her out of the interview like the previous one. And you know you are a little impressed with that spitfire. You cannot lie to me,” he replied.

I squinted my eyes at him, giving him a warning, “Mark, don’t tempt me.”

Mark, undeterred, continued to press the matter. “What? Okay, so we have decided that the cute blonde will be our Liam’s nanny,” he declared.

“We?” I asked.

“Of course! We! If she is Liam’s nanny, and I am your business partner and your best friend. We are bound to interact, so we should get along. And I can say with confidence we will get along well,” Mark replied, wearing a self-satisfied smirk.

I groan. “You do not have any kind of interaction with Liam’s nanny. I am warning you.”

Mark seemed undeterred, stating matter-of-factly, “So she is Liam’s nanny. That’s awesome.” Okay, I walked right into that.

“Don’t you work? Or is bugging me the only job you are competent at?” I asked.

Mark contemplated for a moment, feigning deep thought before responding, “Nope, I am okay. We need this done immediately, you know, Liam’s future and all.”

“Mark!” I said, warning him that I was pissed.

“Okay. Fine. Jeez. Relax. As we have decided that Amy is Liam’s nanny, let me call her to confirm,” he suggested, attempting to move things forward.

I glared at him, and he raised his hand in surrender, acknowledging my irritation. “Okay, I am willing to leave. Stop shooting daggers at me,” he remarked as he walked out of my office.

Once Mark was gone, I turned my attention back to Amy’s resume. Despite my initial resistance to Mark’s playful banter, I had to admit that she was the most impressive candidate by far. It pained me to acknowledge that Mark was right, even if I had no intention of admitting it to the smug bastard.

My office phone buzzed, and I picked up. “Mr. Crawford. Mr. Martin is here.” Cain said.

“Okay. Lead them into the meeting room. I will be there in a minute,” I replied, setting aside my thoughts about Amy for now. Duty calls.

After buttoning up my suit jacket, I walked towards the meeting room, determined to focus on the upcoming discussions. However, no matter how hard I tried, my mind kept drifting back to Amy Castello. I silently chastised myself, attempting to pray away those distracting thoughts.

As I entered the meeting room, the hushed chatter of my executives fell silent. I took my seat at the head of the table and addressed Mr. Martin, our key player in the crucial project. “Mr. Martin, I hope everything is on track. I do not want any hiccups in this launch,” I said.

The man gulped nervously and replied, “Yes, sir. Everything is in order.”

I nodded, acknowledging his response, and the meeting continued. This project was my dream, a monumental development in the realm of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence. It had consumed our resources, time, and effort, with millions of dollars invested to bring our vision to life. I was determined that it would lead the world into a new era.

Hours passed as we discussed the project’s intricacies and challenges. My mind was burdened with the weight of responsibility, but I knew I couldn’t afford to falter in my commitment to this groundbreaking venture.

After the meeting, I retreated to my office, once again confronted by Amy’s resume on my desk. I picked up the document, and it was her resume. Again, I was pulled back to her beautiful blue eyes. No. No. I cannot go there, but she will be a great tutor and nanny for Liam.

She held all the qualifications to become Liam’s nanny. Will she be able to handle Liam is a different story altogether. But she put Mark in his place and Liam is better than that big baby. Caine had conducted thorough reference checks, and all reports had been positive.

With a sense of resolve, I picked up my phone and dialed the number listed on Amy’s resume. She answered after just two rings.

“Hello,” she answered in her soft voice.

“Hello, Ryan Crawford here. Am I talking to Miss Amy Castello?” I inquired, maintaining a professional voice.

A cacophony of noises erupted on the other end as if something had fallen over before she managed to respond, “Yes, Mr. Crawford. How can I help you?”

“Ms. Castello, I have checked everything and I would like to offer you the position as my son’s tutor and nanny,” I replied professionally.

“Really? Oh, my God. Thank you. I am so happy I could kiss you right now. Ahh,” she shouted. There was a pregnant pause after her outburst, as she might have realized what she had said. I was not impressed, but also amused by her reaction.

“Hmm. I am so sorry, Mr. Crawford. I just blabbed out in excitement. But thank you so much for the opportunity,” she quickly corrected herself.

“Yeah. Report at my house at 9 am sharp. My assistant will send you my address and the rest of the details,” I said and ended the call before she could answer.

As I wrapped up my work in the office, the remaining resumes found their way into the trash bin, leaving only Amy Castello’s file on my desk. The weight of the decision lingered in my mind, but I couldn’t dwell on it any longer. There was still another meeting to attend and more paperwork to tackle.

Hours passed, and as the night grew late, I finally completed my tasks. With a sigh, I packed my belongings and left my office behind. However, I wasn’t afforded the luxury of a peaceful exit as my assistant, Caine, intercepted me.

“Mr. Crawford,” he called out, causing me to stop in my tracks.

I stopped and glared at him. I do not like to be stopped. “What?” I stated tersely, my jaw clenched in annoyance.

Caine hesitated before addressing me, “Hmm... Sir... the background check you asked for Miss Castello?” He handed me a file.

“Next time, bring the necessary documents to my office. If there is a next time,” I said. Without waiting for a response, I continued walking, holding the file in my hand.

“Where to, sir?” my driver asked.

“Home,” I replied and glanced at the file. I read through the file, which had the criminal and social background of Amy Castello. When I was satisfied that there was no risk to my son, I closed the file. The car stopped, and I realized I was home.

I scanned my thumb and entered the passcode to enter the house. I was immediately greeted by Jim chasing Liam with chaos around them. Toys and books lay strewn about haphazardly, the living space a disorganized mess. My anger flared at the sight.

“Liam!” I roared. Both of them came to a halt. Liam looked at me, scared. The fear in his eyes made me think how scared my son was right now to see me. Maybe I should control myself. But, I do. He will never learn.

I directed my anger at Jim next, demanding, “Why are you up?” He lowered his head in response.

“It’s S... Saturday tomorrow. So I thought I could....” Liam stammered.

“You thought wrong,” I interjected firmly, clearing my throat before announcing, “I have hired a nanny for you. She will be here tomorrow at 9 a.m. I want you to be on your best behavior. If not, I will have no choice but to send you to boarding school.”

Liam gasped and Jim straightened his back as he realized how angry I was right now. “O.. okay Daddy,” Liam mumbled. The severity of my words pushed Liam to the brink of tears.

“And this is a home and not a garbage can. Why are there toys everywhere?” I yelled, gesturing at the clutter around us. Both of them looked down. Liam was twiddling his fingers, looking terrified. I looked at Jim and said, “I want this cleaned in the next fifteen minutes.”

“Yes, sir,” he said and started his work.

I shifted my focus back to Liam, my tone unwavering as I instructed. “I want you to brush your teeth and be in your bed in the next ten minutes,” I said and stormed to my bedroom. I could not see tears in Liam’s eyes, but I didn’t have any other choice. If I become lenient, he will take advantage of it. He is already getting out of control with his pranks.

I walked into the restroom. As soon as I stripped, I walked into the shower. The hot water flowed, relaxing my tense muscles and providing a brief respite from the evening’s turmoil. I knew the challenges with Liam and I needed to find a way to navigate them.

I dried myself and changed into clean track pants. I dropped down on the bed, thinking about all this. I don’t know what to do anymore with Liam. I sincerely hope Miss Amy Castello is ready for the anarchy that is about to enter her life.

AmyI sighed as I plopped down on my bed after returning to my small apartment from the interview. I found the experience to be somewhat strange. Nannying was never part of my career plan, but when Mara approached me about it two weeks ago, I couldn’t help but feel perplexed. I probed her for more information, wondering how she even got wind of this opportunity. It appeared like the kind of position that required exclusive connections. To enter the building for the interview, I had to provide a mysterious coded message that Mara had given me. It all felt rather clandestine.I knew I should be grateful for the opportunity, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that Mara was keeping something from me. I mulled over the job offer, and there was no denying that I desperately needed it. My attempts at landing a teaching job elsewhere had been futile, as the entire district was grappling with severe budget cuts, resulting in countless layoffs. AmyI quickly exited Mr. Crawford’s room, my heart pounding from the awkward encounter. I couldn’t help but berate myself for my blunder. I’m such a fool, I thought as I sank onto the living room sofa, absently toying with the straps of my bag. The question looming large in my mind: Was this going to cost me my job on my very first day? My nerves were getting the best of me, and I struggled to calm my racing heart.Amid my spiraling thoughts, I suddenly realized something crucial. Where was Liam? Panic surged within me. I had been so preoccupied with the earlier incident that I’d lost track of the little boy. I was about to launch into a search when a handsome man approached.“You must be Miss Amy Castello, Liam’s new nanny,” he said, smiling politely.I blushed. “Hmm... I am. And you are?”“I am Jim Perry, Liam’s bodyguard,” he introduced himself. My mouth formed an ‘O’ of realization. So this is the man who was in the bathroom. And also a 5-year-old has a bodyguard. I have not been able to sleep thinking about what happened today. Maybe Miss Amy is different. No!I cannot think like that. Miss Amy looked different from the other nannies, but deep down, I knew she’d turn out the same. The old nannies always put on a show when they saw Daddy, getting all giggly and excited. What did Jim call that... umm... flirting? They always flirt with daddy. I don’t like that. I scrunched my nose. I even saw one of them take something and sneak it into her purse. Daddy and Jim say stealing is bad.So I have to protect Daddy from those women. I make them run away. It was easy since all I had to do was pull up some prank, or little mischief, or just I had to act out a little. And they would run away, leaving me and Daddy alone. But today had been different. Miss Amy hadn’t acted like the others. When I tried to run away from her a

AmyI bit my lip, trying to hold back my emotions as I looked around my tiny apartment. This had been my home for the last few years, and it held memories of both joy and sorrow. I squealed like a crazy school girl when I landed my teaching job in the kitchen. I cried on the floor when the doctor told me that my mother would need to go away to a hospice or hospital situation, as she needed constant care. This is the place where I have cried and smiled and picked myself up more than I like to admit.Currently, as I placed the last of my essentials into my bag, I couldn’t deny the emotional weight of leaving this place behind. I was almost fully packed, ready to move into Mr. Crawford’s home. My salary would cover the rent here as well as my mother’s medical bills, so I decided to keep this apartment as a safe haven. However, I still needed to pay this month’s rent, and I was short on funds. So, I made my way to Mr. Howard’s condo, my landlord. I tapped his door knocker. Mr. Howard, my l

AmyURGH! That man is so infuriating! I only asked him about using the kitchen to confirm that it was okay before going into his personal space because many people do not like that.Just like my Abuela. She despised it when someone dared to enter her kitchen. Before her passing when I was just six, I vividly remembered her sternly cautioning even my Mama to be careful and not disrupt her kitchen. And my Mama, her only child, was practically flawless when it came to kitchen prowess.Mr. Crawford seems like a person who would be very anal about HIS things, so I asked before I could do something in the kitchen. There was something intimate about entering someone’s bedroom or kitchen, and I didn’t want to overstep my bounds.“Everything okay, dear?” Mrs. Veil asked, breaking me out of my reverie as I realized I had already made my way to the kitchen.“Hmm... yes, everything’s fine,” I replied, with a reassuring smile, hoping she didn’t misconstrue my request as an attempt to avoid her cook

Logically, my brain knows Amy is safely tucked into bed right now. She immediately retreated to her bedroom after the awkward conversation with me, telling my brother to mind his business when he called Ms. Amy beautiful. She informed me that my dinner was in the oven and gave me a small smile before going to her bedroom while Caleb played with

It was a rare occurrence for him to contact me directly from his office, so I couldn’t help but feel confused. “Hello, Amy,” his deep, husky voice sent a shiver down my spine, and I quickly composed myself. “Mr. Crawford. What can I do for you?” I responded, my tone professional despite the slight flutter in my chest. Our recent encounter on the gazebo lingered in my mind, a reminder of the unspoken tension between us. He mumbled something, barely audible, prompting me to request, “Hmm.. I am sorry I did not get that. Can you repeat it, please?” “Nothing,” he sighed, his tone heavy with an unspoken weight. “Can you do something for me?” Considering Liam’s impending school pickup, I proposed a delay. “Hmm...
