018 This Is Wrong

Wabbling with his steps, Damian puts his weight on Catherine, making her wabble with him, too.

“I don’t want to go, I want to know,” The man grumbles, but not really rejecting Catherine’s move as she supports him, “tell me, please?”

His eyes so clean, like crystal. No schemes, no coldness. Only innocent curiosity. She can fight him when he is mean, but when he shows vulnerability, she can’t help her heart move for him.

“Why do you hate me, kitten?”

“I don’t hate you,” Catherine confirms patiently. The man’s eyes brighten at her words, and that lifts her mood, too.

But then when she looks up, she sees what the man is stalling for, and the faint warmth on her face fades. Every bit of it.
