Chapter 3: Midnight's Decision

Midnight's POV

I sat on the sand and stared into the ocean ahead of me. The sound of waves crashing on the rocks seemed to calm me down as always. Many things started to run through the back of my mind. No matter how bored I am, I'll always end up coming back to the same situation.

"How exhausting, do I really have to do it?" I ask myself silently while laying down on the sand and gazing upon the stars that lit up the night sky. I already knew the answer without even asking. The way things are going, it's imperative that the mission would be done by someone who can carry it out perfectly.

I sighed again and thought to myself, It was a good thing that no one knows my true identity. It would jeopardize my normal life if it were ever to be revealed to everyone. I suddenly remembered my goals. Why do I need to do this and why am I doing this. I sat up with my eyes closed and took deep breathes then open them. I took my phone and rang Dr. Zen's number.

After a few rings, he finally picked up, "Yes Midnight?" He asked me as soon as the line connected, I sighed inwardly and said, "Tell my uncle, I'll accept the job. Gather everyone tomorrow for a meeting to plan for the mission". There was a pause for a bit then he spoke again, "Alright, I will inform your uncle and Zithea. So, for now, you should get some rest. I'll send you the details of the planning in 30 mins or an hour" his voice sounded as if he was delighted that I accepted the job given by my uncle.

"All right, I'll be waiting Dr. Zen," I said then hanged up the call. I stood up from the sand and dusted my clothes as it was filled with the sand when I sat and laid down earlier. I looked into the horizon of the ocean one last time then took out a Black King Chess piece. I gazed at it then held it up against the moon. "Yo triunfaré," I said then took the chess piece back into my pocket and walked towards my car. I got inside my car and thought to myself, I won't allow any failures for this mission. I'll do everything it takes to complete this and eliminate any obstacles that may come my way.

After driving for at least 30mins, I've finally arrived back at my home. I opened the door and I was greeted by my pet tiger, Shiro. Yes, I have a pet tiger. It was given to me by my mother, a few years ago because I really loved tigers. Now, I just let him roam around the house, after all, he was trained not to attack humans and is really well-behaved unless someone puts my life in jeopardy.

I cuddled my best bud Shiro and I felt really relaxed. He was super fluffy after all and is gentle with me. After a few mins of cuddling, I stood up and opened my fridge. I took out 2 steaks. One was for me and the other one was for Shiro. I opened it and placed it inside his bowl and he ate it. I headed back to my kitchen and took the steak, tongs, charcoal, and some sauce to grill it outside even though it's literally almost morning because I felt hungry again.

I finally finished preparing everything and started to grill the steak. As I was cooking, I keep on remembering the upcoming operation. The thought of it made me sigh for the nth time today. I was supposed to sleep but I got hungry. When the steak was finally done being grilled, I took it and transferred the steak onto a plate. Then I took a fork and knife, I prayed and thanked for the meal then started to eat. After I finished eating, I glanced at my phone again.

It's been more than an hour yet they haven't messaged me yet. I shook my head and went inside with the utensils I've used and placed them in the sink. Planning to wash them tomorrow since my hands were a bit hot from grilling the steak earlier.  I went back to the garden and took my phone with me then proceeded to go into my room.

I flopped myself onto my bed and felt really exhausted as the fatigue started to catch up with me. "I just can't believe the things that happened. Infiltrating behind enemy lines is quite easy for me but I'm not really a fan of the fact that I'll have to enter as a student. And on top of that, my job is to retrieve the missing items which bring me to question as to why and how can a ring from a previous head be taken?

Especially the ones who only know of the location of the rings are the current head of the family. I don't want to think ill of anyone but what if someone is betraying us from within? An informant inside the family can be troublesome. But then again, whoever that person is he/she should be ready. Because I won't tolerate them at all. If an innocent person gets hurt in the process, I'll make their lives a living hell so much to the point, they'd want to escape.". Midnight thought to himself as he was lying down on his bed and staring at the ceiling while holding his chess piece.

He took the chess piece back into his pocket and then stared outside his window where the stars and moon were visible. He felt his eyelids start to get heavier and heavier as seconds and minutes continue to pass by. He was trying to fight back the sleepiness but exhaustion finally caught up to him and he eventually closed his eyes and went to dreamland. Before he completely fell asleep, his last thoughts were he was gonna do whatever it takes to make everything right and make people pay for trying to destroy the family and the organization. He was gonna do everything even if it meant he had to act like a student. "ad astra per aspera".

I called out to him, but he just ignored me. This kid is indeed a handful, but then again, he's talented, and he's my boss's niece. I can't do anything about it."Midnight, are you just going to ignore me? I'm the one who escorted you into this building. It's rude not to talk, you know?" Midnight stopped walking and looked at me with a deadly glare. Ugh, this kid is utterly terrifying. If I didn't work for his uncle, he would have killed me already. "What do you want from me?" He asked me with a cold gaze and in a very sharp tone. I sighed and shook my head in a disagreement."Calm down, okay? I know you hate being around people, but would it kill you to control your temper? Remember, you're the boss's niece. He wants to talk to you about something
