Chapter 38

Sophie's POV

Julian returned home looking very sad.

"What's wrong, Julian?" I asked, moving closer to him as he entered the house. His eyes were clouded with a mix of emotions, and I felt a tug at my heart.

"I will tell you when we get back from the hospital. Let's go now; the doctor called me already—your mom is awake," he said, his tone a mixture of urgency and hope. I didn’t question him anymore; the news about my mom was all that mattered.

We climbed into the back seat of the car, the driver taking his place behind the wheel. My heart raced with anticipation. I couldn’t wait to see my mom!

As we arrived at the hospital, I barely waited for the driver to open the door before I jumped out and dashed inside. The sterile smell of the hospital hit me, but I couldn’t focus on anything but finding my mom.

I rushed into her ward, and there, standing beside her bed, was the doctor. “Welcome, Mr. and Mrs. Blackwood,” he greeted, his voice calm and reassuring. I hadn’t even notice
