Chapter 40

Victoria's POV

I watched from a dim corner, my heart pounding as Julian leaned in and kissed Sophie. A surge of fury bubbled up inside me, and for a fleeting moment, I considered charging out of my hiding place to tear them apart. But Jaxon placed a firm hand on my shoulder, grounding me in my frustration.

As Julian waved goodbye and walked away, leaving Sophie standing there like a lost puppy, I stepped out of my hiding spot and clapped my hands together. Sophie turned to me, her expression shifting as she wiped away the tears on her cheeks.

"Stop with those fake tears, Sophie," I said, my voice dripping with disdain. "I know you really wanted him to go away so you could be free to indulge in your rubbish."

Her response was quick, laced with venom. "Do you think everyone is like you, fucking every dick you see?"

I raised my hand, instinctively wanting to slap her, but I paused mid-motion. I couldn't risk being caught on camera—too many eyes were watching. Instead, I clen

Chapter 41Sophie's POV I stepped out of the car, the driver holding the door open with a polite nod, and he collected the food flask i was clutching. I walked into the hospital, the sterile scent of antiseptic and the low murmur of voices enveloping me. Julian had been gone for a whole long week, and the ache of his absence was a constant thrum in my chest. Video calls were never enough; they were mere shadows of what I craved. I missed him like crazy. I missed the way his eyes would light up when he saw me, the warmth of his hands on my skin, and the way his voice, rich and commanding, could soothe my most anxious thoughts. I miss his soft lips on mine. Each moment without him felt like an eternity, stretching the time until I could be wrapped in his embrace once more.I often found myself reflecting on how I had come to feel so deeply for someone I once thought of as a devil in disguise. The proposal he had made—inviting me to warm his bed—had initially made me despise him so mu

Chapter 42Sophie’s POV I pulled him away on his chest with all my might and gave him a resounding slap. “Are you crazy?” I said, my voice trembling with anger. “I just want you to know how much you mean to me. I see that you also want me; your lips want—” I didn’t let him finish. With a swift motion, I delivered another sharp slap, the sound echoing in the charged air between us. This one was louder, more forceful than the first. “Do you think this is some kind of game?” I snapped. “You can’t just toy with my feelings like that!” He rubbed his cheek, eyes wide with a mix of surprise and something else—was it regrets? “I wasn’t trying to play games, Sophie. I just thought—” “Thought what?” I interrupted, my voice rising. “That you could just waltz in and out of my life? That I wouldn’t care?” He stepped closer, an intensity in his gaze that made my heart flutter despite my anger. “You’re right. I messed up. But I’m trying to be honest with you now.” I took a deep breath, tryin

Chapter 43 Julian's POV "Did you even listen to yourself?" I asked, fuming in anger. "Mr. Blackwood, I think that's the best solution: to sack the part-time employees and leave the full-time staff. That's what most companies do," the manager replied, his tone matter-of-fact. "We are not like 'most companies.' We are different; everything about us should be,' I insisted. "But what about paying them? The company is short on cash as it is," he countered, a hint of frustration creeping into his voice. "I've been able to talk to some investors. I should be able to talk to more tomorrow," I said. "But what if they do not agree? Let’s shed some staff, at least if not all," he pressed on. "Why are you being pessimistic? If you were in their position, would you be happy to be sacked suddenly? Most of them have families to feed. We can't just let them go for our own gain," I said, my voice rising slightly. He fell silent, his hands locked together in front of him. "Just go home a

You are a chef, so the food and snacks are on you," I teased. "No problem, boo," she beamed, and I could almost picture her smiling on the other end of the line. "Should I come and pick you up?" I inquired, glancing at the clock. "Yes, please do," she said, and I could hear the anticipation in her voice. "I will be there in an hour," I promised, hanging up and feeling a rush of excitement. It's been a while I had gone out with Isabella. I made my way to the jacuzzi, the warm water soothing my muscles. After a refreshing bath, I wandered into my room, ready to choose an outfit. I decided on a light, flowy picnic dress in a soft floral pattern that danced around my knees with every step. It was comfortable yet stylish, perfect for lounging on the grass. I paired it with a cute woven bag and s

I pressed the doorbell again, and still, no response.Taking a deep breath, I opened the door and stepped inside. The sudden silence drew their attention, and Victoria looked up, her face a mixture of surprise and annoyance. She got off the guy, hastily dragging down her skimpy gown."What the fuck!" she exclaimed, eyes wide."I can see you’re enjoying yourself after destroying a home," I shot back, my heart pounding."What do you mean I destroyed a home?" she asked, feigning innocence as she turned to the guy. Chapter 80Sophie’s POV"So you mean Victoria escaped?" Isabella asked, her voice low and filled with concern. We were huddled together at a small table in the corner of the restaurant. "Yes," I replied, glancing around to ensure no one else was listening. "I overheard that one of the warders came to serve them this morning and noticed she's missing and now...no one knows where she is." My heart raced as I recalled the moment I had tiptoed behind Julian earlier, straining to catch snippets of his conversation with Marcus.Isabella's brow furrowed. "That means someone definitely helped her out, is it her dad? He could have sent someone to help her escape.""Yeah, i am not sure about that. But someone definitely helped her." i said. "So, what is Julian doing about it?" Isabella asked. "He's tightening the security measures," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. "I heard him telling Marcus to arrange for a personal guard for me, too.""That's good," Isabella said, her tone shifting

Chapter 79Victoria's POVA DAY AGO"Is it true you'll really release me?" I asked Owen, the warder I had been forced to interact with. We were at the corner of the yard where I had been assigned to cut the grass—a task I absolutely detested."Yes, that's if you will let me have a taste of you," he replied, his voice low and dripping with an unsettling desire. Ugh... the smell of him was repulsive. Smelly brute. I couldn't bring myself to stoop so low as to entertain the thought of fucking mere warder. Nah."Okay, but we can just meet after I am released," I suggested, trying to keep my composure as I stepped back slightly, putting distance between us.He nodded eagerly, his eyes glinting with something I found both pathetic and revolting. I had noticed his wandering gaze since he was transferred here a month ago. It had been a desperate gamble to flirt with him, but now it seemed to be my only chance for escape. "Yeah, but how would we meet?" he asked, leaning closer, his breath mak

"Yes, boss," Marcus replied, his tone steady but urgent. I quickly removed the phone from speaker mode and pressed it to my ear, unable to look away from Sophie, whose gaze was fixed on the bed where my phone had just been. I noticed her hand instinctively move to her stomach. "How come?" I asked, my heart pounding. "Let me call you back, Marcus," I said, abruptly ending the call as I moved closer to Sophie. "Victoria is back. What if she really succeeded in killing me and my baby this time? What if she hurts you? What if, Julian? What if she—" Sophie's voice trembled, trailing off as tears began to flow down her cheeks. Damn it. Her tears were my Achilles' heel. I gently cupped her chin with my hand, tilting her head up to meet my gaze. "Nothing will happen to you or our baby. I promise I will protect you this time. Victoria can't hurt
