CHAPTER 6
______
MARIAH
The king gave me 3 days to recover before I was being moved to a lower floor and I was given a maid uniform. I didn’t understand why. He treated me so nicely that first day, he gave Sir John’s entire family immunity from death to get me, yet now that he has me, I am a maid. It just doesn’t make sense.
For the last 2 days I have been waking up every morning and cleaning the same rooms on the same floor, continuously, just waiting to catch a glimpse of his highness.
But today was a new day, and I was sick of waiting around for someone to tell me what was happening. I walked down the steps to the first floor and looked for anyone that could help me, but strangely there was no one around. I walked around, going up to the third floor where I heard the sound of giggling coming from one of the room doors.
Happy to have found another living thing I didn’t think twice before I barged into the room. My heart swooned as I saw the cute little girl sitting on the floor with a little cat in her arms. She squealed jumping up and trying to hide the cat behind her back, hoping I wouldn’t see it. The little angel looked up at me with big blue eyes, her bottom lip jutting in fear.
“Please don’t tell” she said with watery eyes, and I swear my heart broke a little. I looked around the room and noted the light pink colours used. It was a bug contrast to the bland grey walls throughout the rest of the castle. I gave her a small smile and closed the door behind me, before I made my way over to her and sat down.
I won’t tell. I promise” I said holding out my little finger for her to take in her own. She looked at my finger and smiled sealing the promise by hooking our fingers. “Thank you so much” she squealed setting the small cat on the floor before tackling me into a hug. I hugged her back, my heart swelling at the show of affection. I hadn’t ben hugged in a very long time, it was nice.
She pulled away from the hug her hand in my hair as she hit me with a tidal wave of questions, “Who are you? What’s your name? Where are you from? How come I haven’t see you before?” I laughed a little at her curiosity but ultimately I found it adorable. I loved inquisitive children, they were so full of wonder and question that it made me smile. They were so good and pure; it was amazing how they remained untainted by the world of today. “ I’m the new maid, my name is Mariah, I’m from a small village , near the border of France and you haven’t seen me before because I only work on the second floor.” I said answering all her questions.
She stared at me through narrow eyes before a childish smile broke out across her face. “Nice to meet you Ms Mariah, I’m Lyla” she said, her one front tooth missing in action as she spoke. “It’s nice to meet you too, Lyla” I said with a smile I peaked over her shoulder at the small fluff of fur that sat behind her on the floor. “And who is that cutey? “ I asked playful causing Lyla to shake with excitement as she turned around to pick up the cat.
“His my new friend. I found him in the garden and he was too cute to leave behind. “ she gushed before turning to face me with worry in her eyes. “you’ll let me keep him, right? “ she asked sadly and in that moment I found myself nodding my head. “Of course”.
I didn’t realize how much time had past that I’d been playing with Lyla until there was a knock at the door. Lyla jumped up and stuffed the cat in her closet before proceeding to do the same to me. I let the little girl pull my arm and push me into her spare cupboard before picking up the cat. “Shhh” she said childishly before she closed the door and left me in the smaller cupboard with the cat. The door opened and I heard the sound of a trolley rolling in. “Miss Lyla. Your supper” the woman said blandly before leaving the room, I peeked through the crack in the door and had to hold my mouth to keep from gasping as I saw the King himself standing by the doorway. I froze, a little bit of fear made its home in my gut as I suddenly felt extremely nervous. What would he do if he saw me here?
“Lyla the head maid has reported to me that you’ve been disobedient toward her and the other staff. “ the King said in irritation. It was clear that he’d rather be anywhere else. Lyla remained quiet as she looked at the floor, but I could see her shaking a little. “Why? You know I told you to behave! Why do you still make things difficult for everyone?! “ the king said, his voice rising as he reprimanded the girl. Lyla started to cry as she looked up at his highness.
“I don’t like the head maid. She’s mean to me” Lyla said with tears falling down her plump cheeks. “She calls me a bastard and locks me in my room all day and only open to give me food. “ Lyla sobbed, heart-broken. The King rolled his eyes before glaring at her. “Maybe she’d let you out if you weren’t so God damn annoying. All I ask is for you to listen, it’s not that difficult” the King said. I felt myself grow angry as he turned to leave the room, but what Lyla said next shocked me to my core. “You wouldn’t have to worry about me if you didn’t kill me parents” she spat before getting up and trying to run out of the room.
She couldn’t even make it to the door before the King pushed her into the wall. “We don’t speak of that” he growled and I swear his eyes changed colour. My heart stopped beating and before I could think about it I jumped out of the closest to help her. The kings eyes snapped to me and I felt my body clench in fear as a tear rolled down my cheek. The King smiled sarcastically. “Finally decided to show yourself huh? “ he said coldly as he let Lyla drop to the floor, coughing and wheezing. He turned to me and pushed me to the wall inhaling my before he growled, pressing my body further into his. After another second he stepped back, letting go of me.
I took the chance and ran to Lyla, kneeling down and wrapping my arms around her. She put her head in my shoulder and began to cry as I stroked her back. “Shhh, it’s okay” I said letting her cry everything out. I didn’t even notice when the King left the room, too focused on what had just happened. The poor girl had gone through so much.
Eventually Lyla fell asleep in my arms and I was able to put her in her bed, letting the cat sit next to her. I was filled with anger as I stood up and marched out the door, looking for Butler Aldridge. I found him in the kitchen ordering some of the other maids around as I walked up to him. "Take me to the King” I demanded looking up at him. He paused looking down at me with disgust. “No” he said before he continued with his work. I felt my last nerve snap as I picked up one of the knives lying around and pressed it to his neck in anger . TAKE ME TO THE KING” I yelled at him but he just chuckled, pushing the knife away from him before saying “No”.
I don’t know what made me do it, but I turned the knife around and pressed it to my neck, deciding to take the chance that maybe my life was valued here. “take me to the king” I said again, calmer this time around. He paused again and put his clipboard down before he laughed. He wasn’t taking me seriously. I pressed harder, chasing the bright red liquid to spill from my body. He paled as he tried to stop me. “What are you doing?!” he said in fear picking up a cloth and pressing it to my neck. “Take me right now” I said slowly and he nodded keeping the cloth to my neck as he lead my to the 7 floor, to meet the King.
Chapter 7_______MariahI took a deep breathe as the butler knocked on the large double oak doors. I held the cloth to my neck as the door opened and a maid stood to the side, her head bowed in respect with the King sitting by his desk, reading through some documents.“Forgive me, your highness. She wouldn’t take no for an answer” Butler Aldridge said fearfully as the King continued to write notes on his parchment. The butler was visibly shaking as his grip on my arm tightened painfully. Fear began to bubble in my stomach as I suddenly forgot what exactly I wanted from him, all the anger I felt dissolved into a pit of nothingness when it came to face his aura. The king looked up, unimpressed as his eyes fell onto me and then the butler and then to the red-stained cloth in my hand.“Leave us” he said to the maid and the butler, and they
Chapter 8_____ElijahI stormed out of the castle my control slipping as I rushed for the forest. I let out a growl, half me and half the beast within me. Fucking Mariah. She was messing with my mind, I had never felt such a need for another person as I have felt for her. It was supernatural. The feelings I had for her were unnatural. Her scent lingered around me and drove me mad as I tried to escape it. It was the smell of her innocence, a smell the seemed to multiply the second I touched her.The wetness that pooled between her legs told me how ready she was. The way she whimpered and moaned told me how badly she wanted me, she wanted us. The way she said our name made us mad with lust. The beast tried to take over, or at least he tried to take control of my conscious, but he had only ever gotten that right once.Anger began to bubble in
Chapter 9_______MariahThe king let out a low laugh as he looked toward the books I had spent most of my time reading, before he looked at me. The way his eyes burned into me, it made me want to sink into the chair completely. "And what am I exactly, Mariah?" He asked sarcastically, trying to fool me into believing that I was acting crazy, but I wouldn't fall.I stood up from my chair and took big, confident steps toward him, until we were toe to toe. "You are not human. You are a vampire, I know you are and I believe that most noblemen are after what I have seen these last few days..." I paused and looked up at him, "But you, my king" I said as I circled around him, "you're stronger than the rest, you're special, even... And I know why. It's because you aren't just a vampire. You are the first born son of your father and you are a Rossetti
Chapter 10________MariahI woke up on the cell floor with blankets draped around me as I saw the butler sitting in the corner of the room with his arms crossed over his chest. "Listen Mariah, because I know you're awake" he said as I turned around to face him. I wasn't feeling so good as I held my arms tightly to my chest and curled into a ball, even with all these thick blankets it was still cold. "I have not told the King of what had happened, because if you were any other ordinary maid, I wouldn't have to. I handled your situation alone". He said his voice cold with distaste as he spoke to me.There was a silence between us before I spoke "Do you hate me?" I asked him sadly, looking down at the floor, wanting to know the answer. He looked at me and sighed. “I do not hate you child, it is that I do not trust you.” He said while staring at the wall behind m
Chapter 11_______THIRD PERSONIt was late in the night when Mariah felt someone touching her face. She moved slightly causing them to stop for second before they continued to stroke her hair. She heard the person sigh before standing up, not before leaving a soft kiss in her forehead.Just by the feeling the kiss gave her alone she knew it was the King. She slowly fell back asleep but she was suddenly haunted by the memory of the dungeon and the dead bodies they carried out of the cells everyday. She jumped up in fear and looked around her room, but only found darkness in his place. She suddenly felt so alone as she glanced around her room again. No family, no friends, no one. The only person she even sort of had was the King and he had left her in that dungeon. She was filled with the need to get up and see the King. Even after he had hurt her, she still needed him, just to be near
Chapter 12_________THIRD PERSONWhen she woke up the next morning she was sad to see nothing but sheets beside her, and they were cold. Mariah tried not to be too disappointed as she stood up from the bed and looked around. She knew after one glance around the room that he wasn't in it.Had yesterday meant nothing to him?Mariah suddenly felt stupid for ever assuming they could ever be more. He was the King of her country. He ruled over millions of people and had the burden of looking after them. She could never be the one to truly stand at his side, she was nothing but a maid. She stood up and wiped a stray tear that had fallen down her cheek as she walked to her room to shower. After Mariah had cleaned herself of his touch, she got dressed in her uniform and walked to the kitchens for breakfast. As soon as she walked in she was handed and tray of food. "
CHAPTER 13 _____THIRD PERSON Once Mariah and Gideon got back to the castle, they immediately went to the kitchen with all the stuff Ms Thomas needed, but Mariah filled with dread when she saw the guards everywhere. She placed the stuff down and looked to Ms Thomas who was talking to Gideon frantically."What's going on?" Mariah asked as she stepped toward Ms Thomas. "My dear, the King has been on a rampage looking for you. The guards have been searching every inch of the castle and his already planning to search through all the nearby villages. Mariah felt her mouth go dry with fear as a guard grabbed her arm." You're Mariah Castello, right?" he asked and Mariah found herself nodding her head in fear. The guard didn't ask anymore question as he dragged Mariah up the steps toward the Kings office. Once they got to the door, the guard knocked twice and waited for the King's response but before the guard could even move his hand the door was already opened. The King looked at her, his
Chapter 14_______MARIAHMy heart was pounding with excitement as I got out of the warm bath to see a towel for me along with one of the King's shirts laid on the bed. He wanted me to stay in his chambers for the night and that was enough to excite me. He would probably be coming back later and I would get the opportunity to tease him again.I dried myself off and pulled his shirt over my still naked form. It was a black shirt, so you weren't able to see my body through it, but I still felt bare without any clean underwear to wear. I sat back on the bed and was ready to for wait for the King to return.I sighed after an hour had passed, laying back in the bed as boredom washed over me. Groaning, I allowed my eyes to flit across the room, taking in all the minor details. My eyes landed on the bookshelf the King had warned me to stay away from, and beside myself, I stood
Chapter 24_______Third person Point of ViewMariah woke up again to her body being lifted up gently. She opened her eyes and saw that she was near a river."We are just stopping for a rest. There is another 2 days journey before we reach Venice." The merchanter said."Why are we going to Venice?" Mariah asked timidly and the merchanter almost felt sorry for the little girl. She was clearly still young."what's your name, little one?" The merchanter asked her. He did not seem like a bad guy and Mariah was hopeful that he would send her back. Although she was not on good terms with the king, at least she was safe with him."My name is Mariah Castello...."The merchanter hummed quietly in acknowledgment before quickly setting to work on making a fire. He would have to stop for some supplies in a nearby village before he could continue with his journey. He bent down by the rivers bend and filled up
Chapter 23________Third povIt felt like she was floating, floating amidst the clouds on a peaceful and colourful day. She felt so happy. She looked around her and saw nothing but the blue of the sky and the white of the fluffy balls around her. She was in the sky. The sun was not shining brightly and she could see perfectly and everything was warm.Unable to stop herself, Mariah began to laugh hysterically. She was now a cloud, flying and floating and free. She felt so content. But in the next second, it felt like she was being ripped from the sky and forced down to the Earth again. She was disorientated by the whiplash motion of being tugged viciously from her peaceful cloud back to the hell that was Earth. The impact was brutal. She felt every single second of the collision and she opened her eyes groggily yet unable to actually move. She felt stiff, as if she were a statue instead of a human. She laid still and silent as the tear
𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝟐𝟎 ______ 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐑𝐃 𝐏𝐎𝐕 Over the next few days Mariah did little else but wonder the halls of the castle. The King had left on a short one day business trip with Jessebelle and would be back in the night time. Mariah had a sour look on her face all morning after the King had informed her. She wished she could control her jealous thoughts, but she couldn't. She just felt angry and upset. She was foolish to let herself believe that after her last intimate moment with the King he would be more attentive with her, she was ofcourse wrong. He had went back to his ways of ignoring her presence and only caring that she was close enough for him to sense her. That was all he wanted, to ensure she was safe. While walking through the fifth floor, she was not watching her surroundings or taking in where she was or where she was going, causing her to bump into someone. She fell back on her butt and looked up w
CHAPTER 21 MARIAH The days became monotnous and repetitive as the King prepared for the official announcement of his engagement to the Princess, Jessabelle. After previous encounter with the Princess our paths never crossed again, mostly due to the fact that I now chose to reside in the comfort of either my room or the Kings... but that does not mean that I don't feel her heated and hateful glare from across the table every dinner time, as if I had done something to offend her. Lylah had been sent away to her boarding school, where she would stay for a short 2 weeks before coming back to the castle to continue with her private studies. I was not sure why the King had sent her away in the first place but she was more than happy ot get out of the castle for a little while, but only after making me promise to keep her kitten, Winter, safe. As if Lylah being gone was not bad enough, I found out a few
CHAPTER 20 _____ MARIAH The princess was more beautiful than i could have thought possible. I sat quietly at the breakfast table somewhere near the middle while the King sat at the head with the princess by his side. I was offered the seat to his other side, but how could I take it? How could I willingly sit there knowing what people would think of me? It was humiliating to say the least. I kept my head down and did not bother paying attention to the chatter around me, focusing solely on playing with the food in front of me. I was uncomfortbale and I could not shake the awful feeling that lingered and festered in my gut. The terrible feeling only grew the more the King spoke to his future wife. She was kind. When the King greeted her at the door with me by his side, she smiled and greeted me kindly but I could not muster the same enthusiasm to meet her. The King could sense my resignantion and try to ask me if i was okay, but how could
CHAPTER 19MARIAHIt was a few hours before the King finally came to the room and when he did I could feel the anger raditating off of him. I gasped with fear as I saw the blood staining his hands and clothes but he said nothing to me as he walked past heading for the bathroom.I gulped in fear unable to look away from the bathroom door for the longest time. I was worried. Why was he angry? Where had the blood come from? What did the councilman say that had made him so upset? All these questions continued to whirl through my head until eventually the door opened and the King walked out."Mariah" he said slowly as if trying to find a way to formulate the words in his mind. " What happened?" I asked him, the uneasy feeling back and stronger than ever. What would happen to me if the King married another woman? Even the mere though caused a great ache in my chest, my heart breaking in t
𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 18𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐀𝐇I moaned as the King continued to pleasure me, feeling myself coming close and closer to my orgasm. The King growled lowly, creating small vibrations against my clit. My breathing became shorter and I couldn't contain my myself as my moans became louder. JustJust as I felt reach my peak, the King pulled away spanking me again. Tears of frustration filled my eyes as I looked up at him in shock. He smirked down at me pressing a kiss against the small of my back."Go to your room and change, my love." he commanded me lowly but I could hardly hear his words over my surprise. The intense feeling was still present in my core and all I wanted to do was touch myself. As if reading my mind, the King warned "Don't you dare touch yourself, Mariah". I gulped and nodded slowly, looking at him with sad eyes as I stood to my feet. The King watched as I quickly left his office and walked down the steps
CHAPTER 17__________ELIJAHMy mind was reeling after leaving Mariah asleep in our room. It was all happening so quickly yet not quickly enough at the same time. I had come to accept that Mariah was my mate, it was impossible to deny now, especially after last night.I walked through the hallways of the castle to my office where Aldridge already stood to attention waiting patiently. "Good morning, my lord. " he said, bowing as I walked past. I nodded in reply before pushing open the office door and moving to sit in my seat, Aldridge stood waiting on the opposite end of the desk."You have 2 meetings today, my lord as well as a few documnets regarding the education plan for the children over the next few years. " he informed placing the documents on my table but before he could continue I raised my hand, silencing him."She is my soul mate, Aldridge" I said simply knowing he would understand. Aldridge seemed surprised for a second befor
Chapter 16_______MariahI groaned as I stretched out across the soft bed, my body aching. My eyes fluttered open and I sitffled a yawn as I tried to turn my body around, but couldn't move. The King's arms were wrapped around my body protectively, holding me tightly to his chest as he slept.I blushed, my cheeks burning brightly as memories of last night flooded back. All I could think about was the feeling, it was indescribable pleasure. I smiled brightly, energy seeming to course through me as I tried to turn to face the King, Elijah. I gasped in surprised as I saw his dark green eyes already staring down at me.He stared at me with no expression, but his eyes spoke volumes. Adoration swam through them as I smiled up at him. "Good morning, my King" I said softly leaning my head against his chest. He leaned down and pressed a kiss to my neck, making me moan soflty as his tongue brushed over his mark."Good morning, little one
