Rosella’s POV

Saying I was mortified would be an understatement. So this is the event he was talking about?! A decorated hotel courtyard with a paraded extravagant garden of flowers. This was the best way I could explain the crazy display before me.

And to put the icing on the cake, there was huge writing hanging between the flowers made branches and it read.

[Congratulations on becoming my business partner]

People were walking in and out of the hotel, they only gave it a quick glance in awe but the write/up was pretty normal so it didn’t raise any eyebrows.

“What? Are you disappointed it wasn’t a proposal?”

Every single time this man opens his mouth I’m rendered speechless by how self-absorbed he is.

“You’re so full of yourself, Marcus. Yes I’m disappointed. I’m grossly disappointed that you made me dress up and go through the hours of getting ready just for this… couldn’t you have just said those words with your lips? Was any of this necessary?…”

The rest of my words trailed

Rosella’s POV My head turned in his direction and I only had one thought in mind. Was this man bipolar? After going on about being extremely possessive like a crazy lunatic, now he suddenly wants to learn to love me.Even as crazy as this sounds, that’s still the least of my worries. It would be more thrown off he suddenly developed a conscious. “There’s no need for that, Donovan. I don’t want your love” I was being so truthful right now while hoping he doesn’t press the issue any further. “I still want to try- ”“I said I don’t want your love!l I yelled unknowingly. I just wanted to sleep but my mood was in pits now, thanks to somebody…He really didn’t know when to stop because he went on.“Why? Is it so bad to imagine a proper relationship with me? A healthy one”“Can you hear yourself, Donovan? Do you plan to kill me from rage first? If you must know why then here’s my answer. I don’t want your love because I want to have a justifiable reason to end you. Is that good enough?

Rosella’s POV To my shock it was Franklin that picked the call. I didn’t know how to react to this. Since when does he answer Mirable’s calls? Was I gone for too long and missed all the fun? What the hell happened?! I need answers. Anyways he said she was in the restroom and seeing the call was from me he thought it was urgent. Well, that isn’t a bad excuse but I know there’s more than meets the eye. I smell something fishy… hmm mm…Eventually Mirable came back and took the call. If you’re wondering what me and Franklin talked about in the time frame. Well, nothing. The call was absolutely blank like a sheet of paper and I was so happy to be put out of my misery by Mirable. “Alright, I’m just getting off work now. Should I go change or I should just come directly”What in the world is she talking about? How can she suggest going with her office wears? I almost cracked up but I figured I should accommodate her excesses. I learned from Franklin that it was Mirable who tracked and fo

  • Becoming The Mafia’s Surrogate   Chapter 90: Please stay, Rose

Rosella’s POV I was fear-stricken and my brain forgot how to react in that moment and that was when he spoke. “I’m sorry… you had to see that”A wave of helplessness ran through me. Why was he apologizing when he saved my life? But then a thought struck me and I realized it was always like this. Every time he saved me I blamed him for exposing me to gore and violence. Before thanking him and before any other thing, I blamed him first. A shiver ran through my spine just thinking about he insensitive I was. I didn’t waste any time and tore a piece of my top.“What are you doing?” His voice came out hoarse. I could tell he was struggling why was he trying to act all tough in pains?“Tying you up, isn’t it obvious? Or do you plan to bleed to death?!” I raised my voice for unknown reasons. My tone was shaky as I wrapped the portion of cloth around his arm and shoulder. “Isn’t that what you want, Rose? For me to die bleeding out in a miserable way” My movement stopped and my gaz

  • Becoming The Mafia’s Surrogate   Chapter 91: Can I kiss you?

Franklin was having a hard time deciding whether or not to take her to the hospital. Usually that would be a good idea but not for Franklin, there is absolutely nothing he dreads more than the four walls of a hospital. Sure he can get her admitted there but he doesn’t trust he’d be able to look after her all night. And so, here he was driving and giving the unconscious Mirable the once over.He pulled over at a pharmacy and it started pouring suddenly. So he bought an umbrella alongside the other medications and returned to his car. Without wasting much time he reclined Mirable’s car seat some more and opened the can of ointments. Gently and steadily he applied ointments on her bruised cheek and lips. Still leaning over her he opened the bandage skillfully and carefully placed it on her lips but then her eyes suddenly opened and shock flooded her gaze which was understandable. The last thing she remembered was her taking a punch and a slap for Rose so how could she open he

  • Becoming The Mafia’s Surrogate   Chapter 92: Locked doors

Rosella’s POV Donovan holding my hand in his sleep and telling me to stay was definitely not the outcome I expected. I couldn’t even leave if I wanted to because his grip on my wrist was made of iron so I lay there and miraculously he calmed down. His brows relaxed and his breathing stabilized. An intrusive thought tugged my heart but I brushed it off. Why on earth would he be dreaming of me and it looked pretty serious like he was scared I’d leave. I shook the thought off my head and slept and thankfully when my eyes opened it was morning. The bright sunny weather reflected from the huge curtains and sliced through to meet my cradled figure. I felt extremely comfortable clinging to my pillow and I didn’t want to wake up. I hugged it tighter but it suddenly made a sound that scared the living daylight out of me!“Ah!” I shot open my eyes and raised my head only to be staring Donovan straight in the face and my supposed pillow was nowhere in sight. I met his relaxed gaze and fel

  • Becoming The Mafia’s Surrogate   Chapter 93: Lingering lips

Rosella’s POV What in the world is wrong with this man? I didn’t reply and increased the pace of my cleaning, the faster I’m down with this the better for us all because he kept staring at me like I was a feast for his eyes. It’s a good thing he’s currently injured otherwise… I’d rather not think that because I’m still freaking sour from last time!I cleared my throat nervously for letting my mind wander and I carried on my act diligently but that’s not to say someone had the decency to curb his behavior and stop staring at me like that. “I’m done” I announced and that’s when he finally took a look at my hard work. He had the nerve to look skeptical about my cleanup.“I think you missed a spot” He said pointing to his lower abdomen like a four-year-old. For odd reasons, I found his behavior funny but I quickly regained my composure.“How would you know if I missed a spot when you had your eyes someplace else the entire time” I argued but he was just as thick-skinned as ever, ne

Rosella followed behind Odessa and was led to an outdoor balcony. Today was a sunny day so she wore a sundress and had a light scalp over her neck. Rosella’s POV I came into the room soaked from the rain, it was only a small distance I ran but the rain was so heavy that I got drenched in a matter of seconds. But when I entered the room, all thoughts of myself that clouded my mind ceased. The food tray I dropped on the shelf remained the same. It wasn’t even touched and the heavy wind from the window blew the curtains like it was going to cut from the rails any minute. Yet, my attention was on Donovan who was shivering so much. I didn’t know what else to do but call his name and run over to his side. “Donovan!” I nudged him and he responded to my call but his body vibrated more and that was due to my cold wet hands. “Sorry” I retracted my hands “I’ll go see if Alice is around to check on you” I stood to leave but he caught my wrist. “Don’t go” It was just like when he was asleep but this time he was awake, even though the illness caused his eyes to be barely open, I knew he was awake.“I’ll be back, let me just find he

The tension in the hospital lingered in the air like an uninvited guest, heavy and suffocating. After the doctor delivered the news that their mother had survived the surgery but was now in a coma, neither Rosella nor Mirable could breathe a sigh of relief. The hope of her waking up was the only thread holding them together, yet it felt too thin, too fragile.Rosella’s knees buckled, her strength waning, but Donovan’s strong arms shot out and caught her before she could collapse completely. His grip on her was firm yet gentle, his eyes filled with concern. “You need to rest,” he murmured softly, but she barely heard him, her mind too occupied with the image of her mother bleeding out in her arms. The room where their mother was moved to was quiet, save for the beeping of machines and the faint rustle of nurses shuffling about. The doctor informed them that they could visit, but before they could take a step, Mirable turned to Rosella and Donovan, her expression conflicted. “Rosella… c

Blood spattered on the ground, pooling beneath the crumpled body of Rosella's mother. The sound of the gunshot still echoed in Rosella's ears, even as chaos erupted around her. Her body froze, rooted to the ground as the weight of her mother's falling figure pressed against her chest."No-No, no, no!" Rosella cried, catching her mother in her trembling arms. The air seemed to thicken, bullets zipping past her in the ensuing firefight. She didn't flinch. The world blurred, focusing solely on the woman bleeding out in her arms. ‘Why did she throw herself in front of me?’ Rosella’s mind was pinned on this thought. "Mom! Stay with me!" she screamed, shaking her gently. Blood seeped through her mother's dress, staining Rosella's hands and knees. "Please, don't close your eyes, don't do this to me!"Her mother's eyes fluttered open, her irises clouded with pain yet filled with a strange serenity. "Rosella..." Her voice was barely audible, a faint whisper under the chaos.Tears streamed d

The tension in the air was suffocating, thick enough to choke. The small warehouse echoed with the sound of guns cocking and men shifting into position. The stale scent of sweat, gunpowder, and mildew permeated the room, clinging to the skin like an unwelcome reminder of the danger that loomed.Rosella could barely breathe as she sat on the floor, her wrists raw from the ropes that had only recently been removed by Marcus, her heart thundering in her chest. Her mother was beside her, pale and trembling, though her gaze flickered with a strange kind of strength. Across the room, Odessa stood tall, her arms crossed and her expression cool but edged with irritation as she surveyed the chaos she had orchestrated. In the middle of it all stood Marcus, he suddenly rushed in holding a gun that wavered between two targets, Donovan and his mother, Odessa. His jaw was clenched, his brow furrowed, and his breathing uneven as he wrestled with the storm of emotions raging inside him."Marcus," O

  • Becoming The Mafia’s Surrogate   Chapter 148: Twisted Tales

Rosella was slumped against the cold wall of the dimly lit room, her wrists sore from the ropes digging into her skin. The air was damp and carried the faint metallic tang of rust and decay. The room itself was barren save for a flickering bulb overhead, casting long, ominous shadows across the cracked concrete walls. Every creak of the floor, every distant muffled noise made her flinch, the tension wrapping around her like a vice.Odessa stood before her, her figure imposing despite the elegant tailored suit she wore. Her heels clicked sharply against the floor as she paced, the sound filling the otherwise silent room. Her lips curled into a smirk, and her dark eyes gleamed with satisfaction. She looked every bit the predator who had cornered her prey.“You must be wondering,” Odessa began, her voice smooth but laced with venom, “why I hate Donovan so much. Why I’ve gone to such lengths to tear him down.” She paused, her gaze flickering to Rosella, who stared back with defiance despi

Rosella's breath caught in her throat as her gaze locked onto the older woman slumped nearby. For a moment, time seemed to freeze. Mirable's mother, her mother was sitting just feet away, her head bowed, her blonde hair falling limply over her face. The revelation felt like a sucker punch to the gut. This wasn't just a coincidence or some cruel game Odessa was playing. The truth was undeniable. The woman who had shielded Mirable with her life during the earlier chaos, the woman whose face seemed strangely familiar from the moment Rosella laid eyes on her was the same woman who had abandoned her as a child. Her mother.Rosella's heart thundered in her chest as a whirlwind of emotions tore through her.Shock, betrayal, anger, and the faintest hint of longing all fought for dominance. She clenched her fists against the ropes binding her, her nails digging into her palms as she fought back tears.Across the room, Odessa’s smirk widenedas she basked in the tension. Rosella’s world felt drenched in icy water as her senses came alive. She gasped, her body jerking against the tight ropes that bound her to the cold, damp floor. The sharp sting of water dripping from her hair to her skin left her shivering, but the real coldness came from the person standing over her.Emma.A wicked smile stretched across Emma’s face as she held an empty bucket, her gleeful eyes mocking Rosella’s misery. “Good, you’re awake,” she said, tossing the bucket aside carelessly. The clang echoed in the dimly lit room, its harsh sound amplifying the tension in the air.Rosella’s eyes darted around, panic rising in her chest. The room was barren except for a few scattered crates and a single dangling bulb casting a dim, flickering light. • Becoming The Mafia’s Surrogate   Chapter 145: Do I know her?

Rosella paced her room, the plush carpet muffling the frantic huffs of her breaths. Her heart raced in sync with her thoughts, each beat heavier than the last. Donovan’s warning to stay indoors had seemed simple enough at first, but as the hours passed, unease wrapped around her like a suffocating fog. Why wouldn’t he or Franklin answer her calls? What was happening out there? The vibration of her phone jolted her from her thoughts. Snatching it from the table, she saw the name Dalgliesh Residence flashing on the screen. Her breath hitched.“Hello?” she answered, her voice trembling.“Miss Rosella,” the voice on the other end was panicked, rushed. “It’s Mr. Dalgliesh. He’s collapsed, been rushed to St. James Hospital. It’s bad… very bad.”Rosella felt her knees weaken, her free hand gripping the edge of the desk for support. “Collapsed? What happened?!”“We don’t know yet. The doctors are trying their best, but…” The voice faltered, leaving the grim implication hanging in the air.Ros
