Andrew's POV

After ending the call with Alfred, I loosened my tie and tried to relax. If Sheila knew what I went through last night while she was sleeping, she wouldn't argue or try to annoy me.

Just as I was about to close my eyes for a few seconds break, my office phone rang. I groaned and picked it up reluctantly.

"Sir, Mr. James is here to see you," my secretary, Ivy, said.

"Okay, send him in."

I adjusted my tie again and waited for my private investigator. We had a lot to discuss.

Shortly after, James walked into my office. "James, welcome. Have a seat. How was your trip?"

"It was good. I came as soon as I could. What's going on, Andrew?"

I sighed and began explaining everything to him. He listened carefully as I told him everything Dante had told Alfred and me, up to the point where he started convulsing and we took him to the hospital.

"How is he now? Did the doctor find out what's wrong with him?" James asked.

"The doctor said he ingested a slow-acting poison and it will take

Andrew's POV I ignored the call, unwilling to pick up. Why was he calling me? What did he want? He kept calling, making me scowl. If it weren't for wanting to continue watching the video, I would have turned off my phone. I wanted nothing to do with Stevenson. I had heard reports about how badly he treated Sheila and her mother. Even though I didn’t want to intervene in their family matters, his attitude towards Sheila disgusted me. When he heard I was supposedly going broke, he didn't hesitate to hand Sheila over as a substitute bride. It was as if I was doing him a favor by taking Sheila away. Wanting to get it over with, I picked up the call. "Hello, what is it?" I asked in an unfriendly tone, forgetting about pleasantries. “Good evening, Mr. Andrew. Did I call at a bad time?” he asked, immediately noticing my tone. “What do you want?” I asked again, ignoring his question. He cleared his throat and began. “Mr. Andrew, I was surprised to hear you weren’t actually disinherite

Was it from disbelief? Excitement? Happiness? I couldn't tell for sure.Did Andrew really mean what he said? I had never been told that I was better than Phoebe. Growing up, I always put myself second to Phoebe because she was often praised as the golden child, while I was often reminded that I was just a mistake, born from an affair.Other than my mother, someone actually prefer me over Phoebe?"Come in, Anna. I really need that cup of coffee right now."Andrew's words brought me back to reality when I realized he had mistaken me for Anna. I thought about running away, but my feet wouldn't move.Just as I was about to flee, I turned and saw Anna behind me with a cup of coffee, looking confused about why I was just standing at the door of An

Stevenson’s POV"That bastard! He had the guts to hang up on me!"I grabbed the nearest thing on my desk, a glass artifact, and threw it at the door in anger. How could that jerk talk to me so condescendingly!"Oh goodness, darling, you almost hit me!"I turned and saw Fiona at the door. She looked at the broken glass on the ground, carefully stepping around it before coming into my study."Sorry, my dear. I hope you weren't hurt?" I asked, concerned that my outburst might have injured her."I'm fine, darling. What's the problem? What got you so worked up?" she asked, sitting down. I took a deep breath and sat down to explain."It's Andrew Walker. That bastard raised his voice at me when I told him to divorce Sheila and marry Phoebe. Can you imagine? Doesn't he realize I'm doing him a huge favor by offering Phoebe to him?""Calm down, darling. What exactly did he say?" Fiona asked calmly.I sighed. "I told him Phoebe was supposed to be his bride, not Sheila, and that he should divorce

Sheila's POV I got out of the car and stared at the house I once called home, but it never felt like home. Memories of how badly I was treated here threatened to flood my mind, but I pushed them aside and took a deep breath. "You can do this, Sheila," I muttered to myself as I stood on the front porch of my father's house, my hand hovering over the doorbell. "Is everything alright, Mistress?" Alfred asked. I cleared my throat and turned to him. "I'm fine. Just wait in the car with the guards. I won't take long." "Okay, Mistress." I took another deep breath, adjusted my clothes, and rang the bell. Within a short while, the front door opened and I saw Gia. "Sheila! It's you," she said excitedly and rushed to hug me. I smiled at her. "How are you doing, Gia?" Gia was one of the few maids who was willing to talk to me when I was still living with my father. We weren't really close friends, but she was friendly toward me, which was enough. "I'm really not doing so great.

Sheila's POVI closed my eyes, waiting for the impact of the slap. I had long grown too accustomed to Fiona's punishments and slaps that I didn't even bother to avoid it. However, it never came."Who are you? Get your hands off me!" Fiona yelled angrily.I opened my eyes and saw Alfred standing in front of me, firmly holding Fiona's hand as she struggled to break free."Are you okay, Mistress?" Alfred asked.I nodded. "Yes, I'm fine."Only then did he roughly release Fiona's hand and glare at her. "The next time you try to lay a finger on my Mistress, you will have more to worry about than your hand."I never expected Alfred to sound so cold toward Fiona. He had always been respectful towards me, but this was the first time I was seeing this side of him.Fiona's eyes flashed with fear, but she quickly hid her emotion. "And who the hell are you to barge into my house like that?""I'm Alfred, Mr. Walker's butler. I have been assigned to protect my Mistress from any sort of miscreants,"

Andrew's POVWeeks passed smoothly. The police continued their investigation on Sheila's attack, while Dante was still in a coma, heavily guarded by my security men.The police informed me they wanted to release my guards and the kitchen staff since they had no evidence to keep detaining them. Although I was disappointed with the police for not finding out who Dante's girlfriend was, I decided to let them go after James told me to, explaining that detaining all of them in the station wouldn't be much of a help for the investigation.Sheila was always at home, and ever since she returned from her parent's house, she seemed a bit distant and quiet, unlike her usual outspoken self.I was in a business meeting when my phone vibrated. I saw it was my father calling. After the meeting, I returned to my office and called him back."Hello, Father. I saw your call during an important business meeting.""That's okay. Andrew's POV Evelyn headed to her room before I could even mention Simeon's name, and slammed the door really hard, leaving no room for further confrontations.I stood motionless, my fists clenched at my sides. I couldn’t bring myself to call her back or say another word. Not after what she had revealed. She had heard me mutter Sheila’s name in my sleep. When did this happen? And why hadn’t Evelyn confronted me sooner? The thought gnawed at my mind, making me feel guilty. Was it something I had dreamt unconsciously, or was it the part of me I’d tried so desperately to suppress surfacing in the worst possible way?I turned and headed to the study. The air inside the room was stifling, but it matched the suffocating weight on my chest. I grabbed a bottle of whiskey from the shelf, poured myself a glass, and downed it in one go. The burn of the alcohol was sharp, but it did little to dull the chaos in my head.Opening the balcony door, I let the cool night air wash over me. I sank into

Evelyn’s POVI bent down slowly, my fingers trembling as I picked up one of the pictures Andrew had thrown at me. My heart raced as the image in my hand sent a chill down my spine. It was a photo of me holding Simeon’s hand. How… how did Andrew get this? When I had sarcastically asked if he was stalking me earlier, I hadn’t expected him to actually do it. But here it was—evidence that he’d hired someone to follow me. I clenched the photo in my hand, my shock instantly turning into anger. Without thinking, I threw it back at him, and asked in a sharp voice,“What is this, Andrew? Am I a prisoner in your house now? A prisoner who can’t step outside without the warden’s permission?” Andrew remained unmoved, his expression cold and stern. “This isn’t about being a prisoner, Evelyn. What exactly were you doing with Simeon?” His question stung, not because I didn’t have an answer, but because of the sheer audacity of it. What did he think I was doing with Simeon? I took a deep bre

Andrew’s POV I stood in the shadows, my arms crossed tightly over my chest, watching as Evelyn quietly slipped into the house. She moved carefully, shutting the door gently, as if trying not to wake anyone. The faint click echoed in the silence, and I waited, my patience thinning with every passing second. She didn’t see me. Her focus was on the stairs, her steps light but quick. It was clear she wanted to get to her room without encountering anyone. But she wouldn’t get that luxury tonight. “Where have you been, Evelyn?” My low, sharp voice immediately broke the stillness. She froze mid-step, clutching her bag tightly. A startled shriek escaped her lips as she turned abruptly, her wide eyes searching the shadows until they landed on me. “Andrew!” she exclaimed. “Why would you do that? You scared me!” I didn’t answer, didn’t move. I just stood there, letting the silence stretch between us. Her brows furrowed as she stepped down from the stairs she was about to climb,

Sheila's POVAs I stepped out of the building with Simeon, I felt the cool breeze hit my skin. Simeon was quiet beside me, his expression unreadable as we walked to the car. I wasn’t sure what to say, so I stayed silent, giving him the space he seemed to need. When we got into the car, Simeon gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles white. He didn’t turn the ignition or say a word, just stared straight ahead. I could tell the confrontation with Evelyn had drained him. It wasn’t just about meeting her unexpectedly—it was about the love, betrayal, and unresolved feelings she represented. I didn’t blame him for being lost in thought. After what felt like an eternity, I glanced at him, hesitating before softly asking, “Are you alright?” He blinked, as if coming out of a trance, and managed a faint smile. “Yeah, I’m fine,” he replied, but I could hear the strain in his voice. Feeling a pang of guilt, I began to apologize. “I’m sorry, Simeon. I had no idea she was Mrs. Asher. I sh

Just across the room, I spotted them: Sheila and Evelyn... together. How was this possible? What was Evelyn doing in this part of town? I stared at Evelyn, and saw how beautifully well she had recovered ever since I last saw her at the hospital. Everything about this place screamed wealth and splendor.Clutching my bag tightly, I approached the reception desk. The woman seated behind it gave me a polite smile. “I’m here for a meeting with Mrs. Asher,” I said to the woman. She nodded and gestured toward the lounge area. “Welcome, Ma’am. Simeon’s POVI leaned back in the driver’s seat, watching Sheila disappear into the building. My fingers drummed lightly on the steering wheel as I sighed. She was trying so hard to hold it all together, but I could see through the tiny cracks in her armor. Three months might seem like a long time to some people, but for Sheila, it wasn’t enough to heal the wounds in her heart. Not that I blamed her. Andrew had been stupid—too stupid for his own good. He’d thrown away something precious. If he weren’t my brother, I might’ve given him the beating of his life by now. Even as my brother, I’d thought about it more than once… he didn’t deserve Sheila, not after the way he’d treated her. Over the past few months, Sheila and I had grown closer, and though she probably thought of me as just a friend, I couldn’t help but feel protective of her. Maybe even a little more than I should… like an older brother. I always found an excuse to visit this quiet town, just to see her smile. Even if

My meeting was in less than forty-five minutes, and my car had broken down last night. Fantastic. Scrambling out of bed, I rushed into the bathroom to freshen up and get ready. This had to be the fastest record of me getting dressed! I quickly grabbed my phone and dashed out of my room, nearly tripping over a misplaced shoe. The smell of fresh steamed buns hit me as I hurried to the dining room. My mother stood by the table, gently humming her favorite song while arranging plates like we had all the time in the world. “Sheila, come sit down and eat,” she called, holding up a plate of her freshly made buns. “Not today, Mom!” I snatched a hot bun, juggling it from one hand to the other as I grabbed my bag from the chair. “Why can’t you have a proper breakfast like a civilized person?” she huffed, crossing her arms. “Because I’m running late for
