Breaking Free

Phoebe's POV

I ended the call with my mother, letting out a deep breath I didn’t know I’d been holding. My chest felt tight from hearing her desperate pleas, but I knew I couldn’t let that sway me now. I had come too far.

As I placed my phone down, Antonio entered the room, his presence commanding as always. His gaze met mine, and he asked, "Did you talk to your mother?"

I nodded, though I still felt a heavy weight in my heart. Hearing my mother beg for my father's release had shaken me more than I cared to admit.

Antonio walked up to me, his eyes searching my face. "You’re not having second thoughts, are you?" he asked quietly, but there was an edge to his voice. "Because if you are, I’ll withdraw everything. We can let him go. And then, he can continue with his plans for his new empire for your brother."
