Andrew’s POV

I sat in the bar with James across from me, the slow music playing in the background doing nothing to calm the storm in my heart.

James looked at me with a serious expression, waiting for an answer. "Why did you lie to Sheila about Evelyn being dead? Why didn't you just come clean with her?"

I rubbed the back of my neck, feeling tired and exhausted with everything. "I honestly don’t know, James," I admitted. "It just felt like the right thing to say at the time. I thought it would protect Evelyn."
