'Mason,' Danica tried as he continued to hold her tightly.
"I can hear you." Mason confirmed as his smile grew bigger. "I'm so glad you're back."
'What happened?' Danica asked as she continued to take in the area around her.
The moon was already high within the sky and it's white light glowed down on the field she and Mason currently occupied. She couldn't quite place her finger on it, but something about the moon exhilerated her, made her want to run and enjoy her new found limbs.
"I can tell you later if you want to go for a run." Mason chuckled sensing Danica's building energy.
Standing Danica stretched her limbs getting a feel for them as Mason stood up. Fully naked already he gave a stretch as his body began to contort and shift until his large golden wolf remained where he had been minutes prior.
'Ready?' He asked through the mindlink now.
'Are you okay to do this?' Danica asked looking at the scratches that st
Many warriors and wolfs alike ran around frantically with concerned looks on their faces when Danica and Mason arrived back at the packgrounds. It seemed that something serious had happened in their absence and it had everyone in a fit."What's going on?" Mason asked grabbing hold of a mans arm that happened to rush past."Alpha..." The man said eyes widening. "The...the infected....""What?" Mason pushed beginning to frown. "What's wrong with the infected?""They...." The man looked around as if hoping someone would save him from having to break the news. "They passed away."Danica could feel her heart clench painfully in her chest at the mans words. The infected warriors had passed away, but how could that be? They were doing fine not even twenty four hours ago."What did you say?" Mason asked seeming to be unable to accept what the man had said.As he waited for the man to respond his grip
Rain fell from the sky tapping lightly against the umbrella Mason held above him and Danica. The weather was just as glum and devoid of color as the hearts of everyone that was gathered around. The day of burial for those who had been infected with the rage virus had come and with it came the first monsoon of the season. Even though the weather wasn't made for an outdoor funeral, there was no stopping this, the day had been chosen by the elders as the perfect day to send the deceased off to the moon goddess and cancelling the event was not possible. In front a preacher stood reading from the book of the goddess, his words flowed together easily but none of it truly reached Danica's ears. Beside her Mason was sullen and exceptionally quiet, for the days following his warriors deaths he had locked himself within his office only leaving to sleep and then disappearing the following day. Although it bothered Danica that he was hiding away while
The next few days went by in a blur of training and Mason being missing too busy with pack affairs to be able to slip away, leaving Danica all by herself. She still couldn't get his words out of her head, if he pinpointed who was responsible for the rogue attack that ended up killing his pack mates then a war would start.Too riled up from this knowledge Danica found herself exercising alone to try to keep herself occupied, at least that was the plan however she hadn't expected to run into Abigail and Sophia when she arrived at the training grounds. Both girls saw her the minute she stepped up making it impossible to turn and leave, so instead she gave a wave and made her way over to them."Morning." Sophia chirped beaming. "I haven't seen you in so long, things must be going great with you and Alpha.""Sophia," Abigail said a warning tone in her voice. "Her personal business isn't yours to know.""Oh come on!"
Danica didn't bother to look behind her to see if Monica or Rebecca was chasing, from the sounds of feet hitting the ground it was clear they were and that they were catching up on her quickly.Making a sudden turn Danica began to weave in and out of the trees trying to throw the two women off. She couldn't allow herself to be caught, because if she was chances were she would be killed and then Mason would never know of the double agent that was roaming within his pack. With this thought Danica increased her speed making a detour deeper into the woods on one side before curving back around and bolting to the other hoping that Monica or Rebecca hadn't seen the move she made.Panting she stopped and attempted to mindlink with Mason, praying that she wasn't too far. When she felt a slight tug at her concious and then Mason's warmth she knew that she had succeeded.'Baby, I'm so sorry." Mason began hurriedly only for Danica to cut him off.
"Are you sure about this?" Mason asked Danica his eyes filled with worry.Danica simply smiled, "If we don't do something soon I may not make it." Closing her eyes she took in a raggid breath. "Go ahead and get to it Dr. Williams."Danica could hear the sounds of Dr. Williams moving around his equipment as he prepared to first clean the area that was ripped before starting to suture."This is going to sting." Dr. Williams warmed just as a cotton guaze covered in alcohol touched Danica's neck.Biting down on her lip Danica fought the yelp that was threatening to escape her. She knew that Mason was watching her every move and would demand the procedure be stopped at any given second if she showed any signs of discomfort."Now, alpha I'm going to need you to hold the skin in place for me so that I can begin to sew it shut." Dr. Williams commanded as the feeling of the cotton guaze was removed from her neck."Right." Mason resp
Gasping Danica shot up eyes flying open. Looking around she found that she was still in the hospital, Mason who sat beside her looked completely lost as he took her in.Before Danica had any chance to ask what happened, he jumped up wrapping his arms around her tightly."DOCTOR!" He bellowed as he hugged Danica tighter. "GET YOUR ASS IN HERE!""Mas..." Danica tried only for Mason to pull away and look at her, his eyes sparkling with tears."How?" He asked as a sob overtook him and he pulled her to him once more. "Fuck how, thank the goddess."Danica couldn't keep up with what was going on as Dr. Williams and a nurse ran into the room both their eyes growing wide when they spotted Danica."How is this possible?" Dr. Williams muttered rushing forward and grabbing Danica's wrist to take a pulse. "Steady...""What's going on?" Danica finally managed to get out as she fixed her gaze on Dr. William's."D
"They're disappearing." Danica murmurred. As Mason and Dr. Williams continued to speculate back and forth the translucent swirls all over Danica's skin had slowly started to disappear and were now nonexistent."What?" Mason asked turning his attention to Danica. "What did you say?""They're gone." Danica repeated holding up an arm to show Mason and Dr. Williams. "They disappeared while you two spent your time bickering."Seeming to not fully believe Danica, Dr. Williams moved forward grabbing hold of her arm and examining it. As he did so his brows furrowed as a look of utter confusion formed on his face. Releasing her arm the doctor locked his gaze with Danica's."Did you feel anything strange when they formed?" He asked now seeming to be deep in thought."Strange?" Danica asked cocking her head to the side. "What do you mean by odd?"Danica took a moment to consider, there had been that moment when her
Mason didn't come after Danica as she continued out into the world and then towards the main street leading away from the training grounds and back to town.Feeling even more distressed Danica continued to move making her way back to what she knew and away from the new world that she had been residing in.Everything was as normal when Danica entered the heart of town, people bustled around going about their days, children played along the streets, and vendors tried to draw attention to their stalls where they were selling fresh produce and fish. The whole scene was so normal and so mundane that Danica had a hard time believing that this world even existed.Around her people gave weird looks taking in Danica's beaten up state, but they quickly averted their gazes and moved around. A few children who noticed pointed as their faces paled like she was a monster rather than a person herself.Danica couldn't help but laugh on the inside, if on
