Chapter 6
“I can’t believe that happened to you.” Danielle frowns as we enter the school gates and I shrug.
“I’m used to it by now if I'm being completely honest.” She frowns and I look away. She came home only a little after I fell asleep last night, and ranted on and on about her date and how great it went. I breathed a sigh of relief knowing he wasn’t a douche and that he made her happy, even if it was only one date.
My eyes landed on Sammy, who leaned in the same spot, just staring at me. It was getting creepy. I looked away and walked faster into the school hall, as Danielle lagged behind.
“Can you come on?” I tilt my head at her and she nods.
“I’m coming.”
“You’re waiting for him aren’t you?”
“Is It that obvious?” I give her a small smile and decide that I would wait with her.
He shows up just a few minutes later and she blushes as he hands her a bouquet of flowers. And engulfs her in a hug.
“Thank you.” She squeaks before clearing her throat. He nods at me then whispers something in her ear to which she giggles.
Feeling like I'm interrupting, I take a step away and use my feet to play with some of the pebbles on the ground.
If Danielle was happy, then she was happy.#I hated chemistry.
“I can’t believe I got a freaking D again! I studied so hard.”
Danielle scowled at the paper in front of her and shoved it into the folder. As for me, I got a fat F, and I crushed it and threw it in the bin.
Without saying anything, we walked outside the classroom only for me to collide with a hard body. I take a step back to find Samuel looking down at me, and my breath hitched in my throat.Even Danielle stuttered from behind me.
The entire hall was silently looking at us, some with their eyes filled with fear.
“Loa.” He melodically calls my name and I gape.
“I-"
“Let’s speak outside.” He nods towards the door and I frown.
“About what?” He doesn’t answer just turns to Danielle who visibly flinches and takes a step back.
“Carter is waiting for you by your locker, you should go.” He says.
“I’m not leaving her wi-“
“Notice,” He starts sternly, his eyes darkening and my frown deepens. “that I didn’t ask a question.”
“Its okay D, I'll be back soon.” She gives me a worried look before throwing him a weak scowl and hesitantly walks off.
He holds out his hand, and I quickly avoid them, basically sprinting outside.
“Why are you being a jerk to her?"
“I wasn’t. I made a statement.”
“You made a demand.” I fold my arms and he tilts his head.
“What happened to your face?” He raises his hand to touch the bruise and I move away.
“Nothing happened."
“Doesn’t look like ‘nothing’."
“Well, it is.”
“Are you being abused? Is someone bullying you again? You can tell me.” He prods and I clench my jaw.
“I’m fine.”
“Let me help you.” He ducks his head to look at me, coming closer and my heart rate quickens.
“I don’t need any help.” I defend, standing my ground and he’s silent.
“Are you afraid of me Loa?” He asks are lowly, his face cold.
“Should I be Samuel?” I ask in the same tone and he swallows.
“No, you should not.”
“Then I am not.” We continue staring at each other heatedly, and I’m sure everyone was scared for me but I was being honest when I said that I wasn’t afraid of him. And I’m not sure why.
“Come with me after school.”
“Where?” I question.
“Wherever you want to go, I’ll take you."
“I don’t date,” I warn and he shakes his head.
“It isn’t a date.” I pounder on it and slowly nod. A ghost smile caresses his face and I gulp, hoping I don’t regret this.
Danielle is going to kill me.
#
Anywhere you want to go.
I guess that's why I was now at a local bar a good four hours from my home. I had told Danielle that I had some things to take care of, and she eagerly agreed. At least Carter was keeping her company; I finally learned his name today.
"So a bar?" Samuel questions from the booth and I nod, almost happily. "Why?"
"Because I've never been to one," I answer simply. He leans back in his seat and stares at me.
"You're always looking at me at school, why?" He shrugs and says no more.
"You're not drinking any alcohol by the way. I suggest you enjoy the smell." I crinkled my nose. It smelled like sweat and sex. And I would know what both smelt like; my house always had a similar smell. "Loa."
"Yea?"
"Will you tell me about you?" I look up at him, and he was now leaning forward.
"Um . . . w-what would you like to know?"
"Anything . . . everything."
"I hardly know you." I laughnervously.
"To be fair, I'll tell you about myself."
"There are some things I can't . . ."
"I understand, I as well." The ghost smile returns and I find myself slowly giving him one of my own.
"Alright well. . . My name is Loa Vera-"
"Your name is strange." He comments and I chuckle.
"I take no offense to that, I like it. Kinda like Aloe Vera."
"It's bitter." He raises an eyebrow at me and I nod.
"But has healing properties, and it's also known for numerous things like curing acne, soothing cuts, and burns."
He nods approvingly, "Continue."
"I'm 17, I uh . . . what else?"
"What do you like to eat?"
"Oh . . . well, I don't eat much but I like pizza?" I just choose any food, mainly because there was a very small number on the things I've eaten before.
I haven't even tried Lasagna.
"What's your favorite color?"
"I don't have one." I bite the inside of my cheek.
"What about you?"
"I like yellow."
"Yellow?" I repeat surprised and he nods.
"Symbolizes hope. The sun will shine tomorrow type of shit. I need it." Samuel seemed so weird. Everything he said, he said it in almost a monotonous tone, and his face was always stone cold and stern.
"I have a question." He stays quiet.
"Are all of the rumors true?" I ask reluctantly and he tilts his head.
"What do you believe?"
"I haven't known you long enough to decide."
"Depends on what you've heard. Believe the worst of the worsts, they may be true. Anything less means that I wasn't angry . . . my anger is either at 0 or 100, there's no in-between." A shiver runs down my spine at how serious he sounded as if he isn't talking about how heated he could get.
"Have you ever . . ." I took a deep breath. "Sought help?"
He smirks, and that's the closest have seen to a real expression on his face. "I'm sure you heard that one, my previous anger management teacher was only recently removed from the hospital after I put him in a coma."
I was silent, unsure of what to say.
"Still not afraid?" He whispers, leaning closer and my breath hitches.
"Would you hurt me?" I ask and something flashes in his eyes, his arrogant demeanor dropping.
"I would never." I gulped, nodding slowly.
"Then I'm not afraid." I don't know what happened but he just seemed as relieved as he nodded at me, his tense composure dropping.
"Can we go now? I think I have a better place to go to." He suggests and I take one last look around. Students at school hyped the bar up so much; it was kinda disappointing that all I saw were old men who took off their wedding rings and a few underdressed women. The music was kinda low and no one was hype. I guess it was because today was a Wednesday.I stand and he follows suit. We get back into his sleek black car, and he immediately ignites and peels out of the parking lot."D
I watched him with hooded eyes as he handed the man the money. He had to try and hit the moving target in the center, and then he would get the bear.Sounds easy right? No.Midgame these targets went crazy, moving up and down and I bite the inside of my cheek watching as Samuel visibly got frustr
On the way home, I noticed that we ended up at Wal-Mart. He killed the engine and I turned to face him.“What’re we doing here?”“We’re gonna buy groceries,” Samuel says in a dull tone and I clench my jaw.“I don’t need any groceries, Samuel,” I tell him, getting angry. He opens his mouth to speak but I cut him off. “I know you feel sorry for me or whatever, but I don’t need your he
“Where were you yesterday?” Danielle asked as I meet her outside of my house. “And why are you out so early?”“I just had a fresh start this morning.” I lie. I just didn’t want her to see the outfit that Samuel had bought for me, nor the teddy bear, although I did have the reeboks on.“I was just around.” I shrug and she raises an eyebrow as we walk.“Around?”“Yeah,” I say simply and she scoffs.“You were with Samuel, weren’t you?”“I . . . Well –"“Loa I thought you were going to stay away from him?"“I was. But Danielle he’s really not as bad as you think. Sure he has a little anger problem, but he’s really sweet and – "
The ride to the Zoo was extremely tense, with the occasional glance from Samuel, who wouldn’t stop looking at me. I drummed my fingers on my knees, anxious to get there and see all the animals.I found it sweet that he even thought about bringing me here, and wondered if he perhaps knew about my obsession with animals.Danielle sat quietly with her arms crossed, staring outside the window while Carter just seemed guilty. His expr
“You wanna watch porn?”I slowly turn to Danielle, as she sat in front of her laptop.“What the hell dude?” I raise both eyebrows at her and she shrugs. “Why would you even – ““Well . . . I&rsquo
After school I had Samuel drop us off at the mall, and even after refusing his money, it still burned me from my back pocket where he forced it into. My mother’s words echoed in my head but I threw them to the back of my mind.“So he bought you a new phone?” Danielle frowns down at the cell in my hand and I shrug.“I didn’t ask him to . . . he just did.” I say and she looks thoughtful.
“Have you ever tried to find out what was the source of your anger?” Night had fallen, and we still lay peacefully on the blankets, staring up at the stars. I prayed that it didn’t rain tonight, the waves crashing gently on the shore.“Not really.” He replies.
“Loa? You’re up so early.” I jump slightly as I hear Victoria’s voice from the kitchen.“Oh, good morning,” I force out a nervous laugh, tugging at my hoodie.“What’re you up to? Is Samuel up?”“No, he’s not, I’m was planning to head out so I could visit one of my friend’s mother.”“Oh,” she sets down her coffee mug, grabbing her bag, “I’ll give you a lift.”“That’s not necessary, Ms. Victoria, I was just going to call an uber.”“Girl, it is fine. I have time to spare, Shane left without me this morning.”“Oh . . . okay, well if you insist.”She claps her hand happily, opening the door for me. She had a long black s
A/N: Hi guys! Readers from wattpad can you let me know that you came from there? And new readers from GoodNovel I'd love if you let me know that you guys are new also. I apologize for such a long wait, I was in the process of moving and got caught up but I promise that I'm planning to update a lot more now even as the book is almost done. This chapter isn't perfect and I personally don't like it but my others will be better so no worries. Thank you all for your patience. I apologize for any errors.Time had frozen as we sat in the car together, each vehicle passing by raising the tension. I tried to figure out who said it first, did he?Did . . . I ?"You don't have to say it back," he whispers in the crook of my neck, reassuring me that it was indeed him that said it, and not me.However it still didn't create any ideas of what to say in my head, so I hugged him tighter and silently urging him to be strong. We pull apart after a few minutes
After we had rested, we were now on the hunt for the boy's suits, but before we could reach the stores, Duncan, Macy, Jack and Danielle walk into the mall.Danielle looked terrible. She had a bruise under her eye and had on a long sleeve shirt. For the first time, she wasn't in anything short but had on some baggy jeans.Duncan upon noticing us smirked. He began approaching, and as of result, we halted."HeySammy,"His voice was like chalk scraping against a blackboard."What the fuck do you want Duncan?"My eyes find Jack's and he looked just as terrible also. He had a cast on, his lips bruised and one of his eyes swollen. Yet i still couldn't miss the desperate look on his face. It was almost as if he was pleading for something.I looked away."Why so hosi-" In a second, Samuel had Duncan's throat in his palms. My eyes bulge as I remember what he said the other night.I
Everyone walked together as we moved through the halls in the malls. As expected, it was crowded.Classmates moved from one store to the other, you could practically feel the excitement in the atmosphere as everyone was on a high in anticipation of graduation."It's like a zoo in here," Samuel says, annoyed and I roll my eyes at him. Typical.Rein looked great. She had on a pretty white top and a tight-fitting jeans skirt with platform boots. Her makeup was A1.I wish I could do that. She was showing carter something of a flyer she had picked up.All I could do was look around happily. I'm not sure why, but I was in a really good mood. Samuel's arm was wrapped around my shoulder, the other in his pocket."So . . . where are we going first?" Tristan speaks up and we all stop."Well, what do we really need?""I say we split up," Ben suggested. "Girls need dresses, we need . . . well, suits."
Loa was vibrant all morning. She let me rinse her off in the bathroom, fully naked, and dressed in front of me without much of a problem. We didn't have school, but I had football practice for the last game of the season, and Loa sometimes stayed to watch. Today was one of those days. She didn't
We were in my room, burgers in hand, fries, and soda on the table. Celebratory lunch Samuel called it, but we used to eat this every other day."I'm sorry," he blurts after a while. "I'm sorry that I'm being selfish. If your dream school is somewhere out there, you should go ahead and find it. I want you to be happy. . . Even... Even if it makes me unhappy."
Ben and I were quiet, and Jack avoided my eye."What- what do you-""Loa . . . Macy has it out for you, I know it seems like she's forgotten all about you, but she. . . "
It was finally Monday, so when Samuel dropped me off I was quick to throw him a kiss and leap out of the truck.I had to find Jack.Like always, he was easy to find. Always running his mouth.
"Burger or pizza?""Mm, burger," I reply."Soda or wa
