Chapter 2

I am sitting now in the empty chair after hearing what the doctor said. I don't know where I will get the money to spend for my mother's surgery, I haven't saved enough even though I've worked several jobs.

We didn't grow up rich, my parents earned just enough to support our daily needs. My father died early so our life became even more difficult,  and my mother got sick.

I'm an only child and  I know that my parents did everything for me. I didn't finish college because I had to work so that my mom and I could survive. And now I don't know where I'm going to get one and a half million to continue my mother's surgery because if it takes longer, she might not be able to survive. She is all I have now so I will do everything for her to live. I don't want to borrow anymore because I still haven't paid what I borrowed last time.

"Are you okay Bea?" I looked at the person next to me, I forgot that Kiara was with me.

I smiled at her. "Yes, I'm fine," I answered.

"I know you are not, you don't need to lie to me,"

"I need to be strong Kiara for my mom. She needs me," I said to her.

"If you need money, I can lend it to you first so that your mother can have surgery."

I shook my head. "No, it's too embarrassing because we haven't known each other for a long time. I don't want others to think that I took advantage." I said.

"I know you won't accept it when I help you, that's why I said you can borrow money from me,"

"Thank you Kiara but I can't accept that, I can still find another job," I said.

"But your mother needs to be operated as soon as possible, no  matter how many jobs you have, you won't be able to save that much money right away,"

I was silent because of what she said, she had a point. Even if I work all day and all night, I can't save up to pay for my mother's surgery.

"If you don't want to borrow from me, I have another suggestion for you since you're planning to seek a job. Just apply to our company."

I looked at her in disbelief. "What you say is even more difficult, Kiara, I didn't graduate from college and I know how high your company's standard is, so I'm sure your employees are all graduates," I promise.

"Don't worry about it because I will take care of that."

"What job are you offering to me?" I asked her.

"Be my brother's secretary,"

My eyes widened. "What? What you are saying is impossible. I don't belong in that position, especially as your brother's secretary." I exclaimed.

"He doesn't have a secretary now because he fired her earlier,"

"You're the one who said that no one can handle the behavior of your brother, and I'm sure I can't do that also," I said.

"I will talk to my brother, he will not complain when I tell him about it, he loves me that much as long as you do your work properly."

I was silent for a while and couldn't speak, can I handle Storm Kyzer Alcantara being my boss?

Kiara patted me on my shoulder. "Think carefully about my offer to you, because your salary will be enough to pay for you mother's surgery,"

"A-alright," I answered her.

"What do you mean?"

"I'm accepting your offer, I just really need it to save my mother's life," I promise.

“Great! I will talk to my brother later about it.”

"But are you sure? Maybe your brother won't agree." I asked worriedly.

"Don't think about that because I'll take care of it. If he doesn't agree, I'll find a way for you to have a job. And when everything is in order, your mother can be operated on."

"How can that happen, I don't even have the money to pay yet," I said.

"My brother will take care of that, I will tell him the truth so he can lend you money and pay off your debts, after all, you will be working for him."

I smiled at her and thanked her, we talked for a while and later she said goodbye and stood leaving. I was going to take him outside but he refused and said that I should just look after my mother.

I held the hand of my mother who is still unconscious.

"Don't worry, you will be operated on soon. Kiara seems like heaven has fallen to us because she is the one who offered me a job, I just found out that they are the owners of the Alcantara Company." I told her.

I suddenly miss my friend, Nicole, because since I quit college I haven't heard from her. I know that she graduated already and seems to be working. I hope we can meet again.

I suddenly thought about my future job at the Alcantara Company, wouldn't it be difficult for me? Kiara says that her brother's secretary doesn't last long. It seems to be true what others are saying that its CEO is strict and grumpy, but there's nothing wrong with trying because I need money.

Whatever! The important thing right now is that I can get mom to have surgery so that I don't have to worry about her. I'll just do my best and do my work properly because I know that I will owe a lot to Kiara's brother if that happens.
