Ellie.
My eyes fluttered open, catching the ray of sunlight that infiltrated the room.
Strange…
My window was on the left side, not the right, and the position of the bed was off, but most especially, there was a throbbing pain at the back of my head, and unconscious awareness at the back of my mind that something was off.
I shut my eyes with a groan, turning to my other side, but paused when my groan echoed loudly, deeper than the actual sound. Then I felt it; a hot breath on my face.
My eyes shot open as I sprang to life, watching with confused wide eyes the body beside me—a male wolf—stare at me with identical confusion.
“What are—”
“Who are—”
We said at the same time. I blinked a few times, watching him in pure and utter confusion, with no recollection of why he was on the same bed as I was, with his naked chest on display.
I’d seen him before, cleaning Vito’s house. He was an omega just like me, but we never exchanged pleasantries or looks, yet I was in bed with him.
“Why are you naked?” He asked me, and dread spread throughout my body as I looked down at myself, and noticed there was no shirt on my chest, just the duvet covering my breast and the rest of my body. It was then I took the time to look around the room, and I lived I wasn’t in my house, in my parent's room where I was very sure I’d drifted into sleep the night before from crying.
“Tell me you’re not naked.” I pleaded, but one look down his body told me he was.
“What happened? Why am I here with you, and naked?” I asked him, tears welling up in my eyes.
“I could ask you the—” he started the the bedroom door was pushed open, and Vito walked in, with a slight smile that disappeared just as I saw it.
“Vito!” I called, but more wolves poured into the room; Nadia, Vito’s beta, Brad, and his mate, a few other wolves I recognized, and two other males I didn’t recognize. Out of the two faces I didn’t recognize, one of them gave a heavy look that sent a shiver down my spine. With brown eyes, dark brows, and thick lashes he stared down at me as though he was looking at a dirty servant, his mouth thinning with displeasure.
“Ellie, what is this?” Vito wailed, staring at me like I’d just betrayed him.
“Huh? I don’t know, I—”
“Ellie, how could you do this? How could you do such a thing to Alpha Vito?” Nadia emerged from the group, obvious sorrow in her eyes.
I shut my eyes for a moment, at the ridiculousness of the entire situation, hoping—no— wishing that when I opened my eyes everyone would disappear, and I’d wake up in my room like I was supposed to and head out for another day of torture while waiting eagerly for the Lycan King to arrive so I could ray to him all that Vito had done. Only when I opened my eyes, nothing changed.
“You are wicked! Ellie. How could you? Did you forget you were cursed and Alpha Vito took you in out of the goodness of his heart? He loved you and this is how you repay him?” Nadia cried. I could only fold my lips and watch in astonishment how Nadia could say all that when I’d been the one constantly abused and used by both of them.
I knew everything now. They wanted me to ‘betray’ Vito so that it’d be a good excuse for Vito to get rid of me.
Of course, it was just Vito’s way to do a thing like that. I could not believe I didn’t think he would finesse me in such a way.
I blanked out of the conversation they were having, only returning to reality when I heard the wolf who had been staring at me strangely say;
“Your mate will have to reject you,” his eyes darted to me, and an eerie realization hit me. He was no ordinary wolf, he was the Lycan King I’d been waiting on.
I had planned to escape and make sure Vito lost his position as Alpha, but if escaping him was on the table without revenge, who was I to not take it? Only an alive wolf could plan revenge. I pressed my lips with newfound motivation and a simple nod of my head.
“I accept. I will reject him. I, Ellie Fowler, hereby reject the Alpha of Crimson Pack, Vito Graham. From this moment onward, the bond between us is broken and he shall no longer be my mate.”

Archer.
My gaze darkened as I took in the view before me, strange emotions clouding my better judgment while I stood there, unable to take my eyes off the naked young wolf on the bed. A very faint, but pleasant scent emerged from her direction and into my nose, flowing through my entire body until it woke my wolf up.
“Is that…?” Ian, my wolf started, but I shut him down before he could finish asking the question, focusing my attention on the matter at hand.
There was no way the cheating wolf could be my mate. Not only did she have a mate, but she was completely oblivious to my presence, her attention on her supposed mate with teary eyes. If by any chance she was my mate, she would’ve picked up on my scent first, before anything else. A bonus was the fact she was an omega. And I would prefer not to have an omega as my mate.
“I cannot do this, Your Majesty. She has insulted me greatly with this act. I’m afraid I cannot continue.” Vito turned to me. The tone of his voice suggested tears, but his eyes were as dry as a desert.
As if just noticing my presence, the girl on the bed stared at me with wide eyes, her hands trembling on the duvet she used to cover her nakedness. So she didn’t even know who I was.
Interesting.
“Please, Your Majesty,” Vito inched closer to me, shaking his head.
“My heart cannot take this betrayal, because I cared for her more than everyone else. I catered to her needs and—” he cut off, turning his face to the other side.
“Please. I would rather stay without a mate than with a cheating mate, Your Highness.” Vito pleaded, pressing his hands together.
I raised a brow at him, shocked that an Apha would beg this much with his underlings present, but it showed he’d had enough and wanted out of the bond quickly to ease his pain.
“Your mate will have to reject you,” I told him, directing my eyes to the bed once more. That was one time more than I would’ve preferred.
“I accept. I will reject him.” Her voice was louder, her face void of every and any emotion. My blood ran hot with disgust toward her.
She’d been the one caught fornicating with a wolf that wasn’t her mate, and yet she was putting up a fight.
“Very well then.” I folded my hands and watched as she cleared her throat and rejected Vito.
Although immediately she finished speaking, the scent intensified; it was citrusy, with a pinch of cinnamon, or was it vanilla?
The female closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and when she shot them open, her eyes fell on me.
“That’s our mate!” Ian announced like I couldn’t tell myself. I cocked my head to the side, staring at her in disbelief. Was I this Omega's second chance mate? It couldn’t be, though the word “Mate” was at the tip of my tongue, begging to be uttered.
It had to be a joke! A fucking expensive joke that the goddess was trying to play on me. A search for my mate with my life on the line and what I got was a fucking omega with an issue with staying loyal?
“How dare you, a good-for-nothing slut, reject our alpha with that vile mouth of yours?” Vito’s beta charged toward the bed with his raised hand in her direction. For the first time in my life, I lost control of my body as I hurled the beta into the closest wall creating a dent in it, shocking everyone present, including myself.
“Don’t you fucking touch her!” More shocking words left my mouth.
Theo immediately dragged the unconscious wolf out, the others in the room also taking it as a cue to leave, including the naked male on the bed, leaving behind Vito, the omega, and myself in a silence so thick it rang loudly in my ears. So I turned to Vito, in an attempt to ignore the naked female on the bed.
“We need to talk.”
Ellie. My brain was in overdrive.I could hardly believe that in one simple moment, I had just met the Lycan King and Vito was no longer my mate. I rejected him and freed myself from his torture. I once thought that if there ever came a time that Vito was not my mate anymore, I would escape the pack and become a rogue, probably join the humans and live my life under the radar, and now that thought was within reach... or so I thought."I'm taking her with me."I blinked when I heard the words, unable to believe my ears.I had returned to Vito's house with him, His Majesty, and His Majesty's beta, and I was forced into a room while they talked in the living room, but me being me, I opened the door a little, peeking through the small space to see and hear clearly. His Majesty had said the words simply like it wasn't my death wish. My heart thrummed loudly in my chest as my eyes darted from wolf to wolf, trying to confirm if what he said was real or just a fragment of my imagination."But
Ellie.I sat frozen in the car, unable to move a muscle, not with the intense brown eyes staring daggers at me. We sat opposite each other in the car, his aura as dark as the shirt he had on. I tried my best to keep my eyes off him, but the intoxicating scent of him kept pulling me back unconsciously.“I suspect he’s our mate, Ellie, but isn’t it uncommon to have a second chance mate this quick?” my wolf, Ru, asked, but I shut her out quickly. I was wondering the same thing before she spoke, and I needed to know what that meant for me, and my future, being the Lycan King’s mate, but I couldn’t dare ask. The Lycan King was not Vito, they were two different wolves with different authorities, and if the rumors I’d heard about the king were true, then he was very strict, merciless, and straight-up evil.“Do not think for even a second that he will believe anything you say,” Vito warned me earlier, but sitting opposite him like this, I wondered if he would’ve believed me had things gone my
Ellie. To my surprise, he did listen, raising his body from mine.Quickly, I gathered what was left of my dress, using the tattered pieces to cover myself, my eyes darting around the area, scouting for the easiest place to run to, to escape from him, but the scent of him infiltrated my nose, rendering me a hostage to his pull.Silence followed us up to my dark room, but the second we stepped in, he pinned me against the closed door, as if he sensed my plan to escape, dark eyes boring into me before he dipped his head into my neck. A breath escaped my lips the moment his lips touched my skin for the second time, suddenly feeling hot all over. The sensation was new to me since I never did anything of the sort with Vito. So I just stood there, while succumbing to the forceful domination of his lips on my neck and chest.“Touch me.”The command was thick and unsteady, but I obeyed, placing my trembling hands rather slowly on his back, only to remain stunned when he made hungry sounds in t
Ellie. The first thing I felt when my eyes fluttered open was extreme soreness in the lower part of my body.I couldn’t explain to my new mate that it was my first time because it would only confirm to him that I was a liar since he strongly believed that I had sex with a wolf that wasn’t my mate. My chest burned with the memory of the night before and how despite his roughness with me, I found pleasure in it all, but also because of his statement afterwards.“You will be the Queen’s handmaiden and my mistress.”He had said with no thought of my feelings whatsoever. To him, I was nothing more than an unworthy mate, just like Vito thought.“Did you not hear what I said? Quit spacing around like a freak and answer me!” A loud voice broke into my thoughts, with angry blue eyes staring daggers at me. Head Maid Emma. I knew nothing about her other than the whispers I had heard that she had been the King’s maid since he was just a boy. The omega maids speaking about her mentioned that she w
Archer.“And so the packs finances has relatively increased by five percent…”Lee, my gamma and my trusted manager was saying, but my mind drifted off to a certain black-haired omega and the feel of her body under mine. The darkness did nothing to hide her sultry body from me, or the look in her eyes when I had her reach climax.Fuck! It wasn’t my intention to have her like that–or at all–but it was a full moon, and the pull to her was so strong it was impossible to ignore. I had indeed gone to the servants quarters but I had no plans to go up to her room or seek her out, but then she came down to me and I lost control.A sigh escaped my lips as I ran my fingers through my hair, tugging the roots slightly.“Are you okay, Your Majesty?” Lee’s voice momentarily snapped me out of my daze, but when I nodded my head, signaling for him to keep going, the thoughts of her came back to hunt me.“You almost devoured her last night,” Ian snickered, angering me.I couldn’t deny that the intimacy
Ellie.I’m doomed.I bracketed my head between my hands, recalling what happened earlier. Lunch was a disaster, and it was all my fault. Scratch that, my existence in the castle was a disaster. It felt like I couldn’t catch a break. My hands trembled, as well as the rest of my body, waiting in anticipation for what was to come. His Majesty had instructed me to return to my room and remain there until he came to give me my punishment. It had been seven hours already. Which meant I missed the rest of my duties as a maid.I could almost hear the insults and curses thrown at me from outside my bedroom door by the other maids, and I knew it would only make my stay here even more unbearable, but there was nothing I could do about it. I was more worried and scared of His Majesty’s arrival.Truthfully, I couldn’t understand him and all the mixed signs I’d been getting from him. When we arrived he declared I wasn’t his mate, and even threatened to punish anyone who so much as harbors the idea
Ellie.“Get up.”I rose slowly, looking down at my feet as I did because I felt ashamed of my thoughts and hopes and I couldn’t tell what he was thinking.“I don’t know about you, but I want him,” Ru expressed with a low growl, and I knitted my brows, furious at my desire for him even after what he’d just done to me.Cautiously, and with more push from Ru, I placed my hands on his shoulders, every move of my body a testament to my arousal.Furious dark eyes met mine, and in a split second, he took my arms and spun me around so my back was pressed against the bed with his body atop mine, his eyes never leaving mine. If anything, his eyes bore deeper into my soul, and I held my breath in anticipation of what was to come, as his face drew closer to mine.“Such a talented actress,” he muttered with a shake of his head and then pushed himself off me with a frown.I stared at his retreating form, wondering what just happened, or what I did wrong to deserve such treatment, but I was beginnin
Ellie.“That is not reason enough for you all to do this to her!” The male voice resonated through my spine. Alarmed, I opened my eyes only to find I was still in the stranger’s arms, and we were still in the garden behind the kitchen.“She is one tiny maid and there are seven of you,” He said angrily, then he turned his head to the side.“Take them away, and lock them up. If anyone asks, tell them Alpha Tristian commanded it,” he barked, and from the chroused “Yes Alpha,” from a few males, I knew he had involved guards.I stared up at his jaw–as it was the only part of his face I could see clearly. It was sharp, like a certain someone I know. Alpha Tristan. I’d never heard of him before, but I knew I owed him my life. I’d been through a similar life-threatening situation, but it was the first time someone came to my aid, and something about that warmed my heart. As the guards dragged the maids away, Alpha Tristian looked down at me, meeting my eyes.“Thank heavens you’re back,” he sa
Ellie.I had been feeling different for weeks now. My appetite changed, my energy fluctuated, and lately, even my wolf seemed quieter than usual. I suspected the truth but hadn’t dared confirm it. Not until this morning.Standing in front of the mirror, I pressed my hand against my lower abdomen, feeling the faintest of curves. A small smile crept onto my face. There was no denying it now—I was pregnant. My heart fluttered with excitement. Archer had always wanted children, and now, the thought of telling him made my pulse race. But I knew I wanted to tell in a way that would make the moment special, so I went in search of my friends.“Julie! Gilly!” I whispered as I rushed into the room where they were chatting. Both of them turned to me with curious looks.Julie’s eyes widened, immediately sensing something was different.“Ellie, what’s going on?”“I think…” I began, but then corrected myself, “No. I know. I’m pregnant.”Gilly gasped, her hands flying to her mouth.“Oh, Ellie! This
Ellie.Archer’s eyelids fluttered open slowly, the usual sharpness in his gaze softened by tiredness. Relief flooded through me as I smiled down at him, a warmth spreading in my chest.Without thinking, I hugged him, wrapping my arms around his neck tightly. His body was still weak, but his arms managed to slip around me, holding me close. He smirked, his voice low and slightly hoarse.“I really don’t know how I could ever live without you, Ellie,” he said, his lips curving into a half-smile, “You’ve saved my life more times than I can count.”I leaned back just enough to look into his eyes, brushing a few stray strands of hair from his forehead.“That’s only because you saved my life countless times when I was an omega,” I replied softly, my fingers still lingering on his skin.“Do you know… if you hadn’t taken me away from Crimson Pack that day, Vito would’ve killed me.”His brow furrowed, a shadow passing over his expression.“I meant what I said when I told you Vito and Nadine dru
Ellie.Archer stepped forward, fists clenched at his sides, muscles tense.“What do you want, Seraphina?” His voice was low, brimming with barely contained rage. She laughed softly as if we were sharing a joke, “Oh, I have so many plans,” she replied, a hint of malice lacing her words, “But most importantly, I’ve discovered something extraordinary during my time, going around,” her sinister smile intensified as she gestured to the far side of the room.I followed her gaze and felt my breath hitch. There, carved into a stone, was an intricate seal that pulsed with a dark, ominous energy. It seemed to throb with a life of its own, casting a strange glow that began to illuminate the room.“Behold,” Seraphina said, her voice dripping with excitement, “the seal of forbidden magic. A power so great that it could change everything.”“What are you planning?” I asked, my heart racing. I could sense Ru’s agitation, a low growl reverberating through our bond as we moved closer, studying the seal
Ellie.“This must be the doing of the witches,” Tristian said and I nodded.Since witches were known for experimenting with animals and even wolves, I believed it was possible.“Get ready,” Archer commanded, his voice steady and calm. His eyes flickered red, taking in every detail of the surroundings.Suddenly, the creatures appeared—animals twisted into monsters by dark magic. Their glowing eyes and grotesque forms lunged at us from the palace, snarling and snapping.Ru surged forward, and I shifted in an instant, claws tearing into the first beast that came at me. It was a tainted. I ducked as it swiped at me, saliva dripping from its mouth, I struck hard at its side, sending it skidding back. Its howl filled the early morning air, but it wasn’t done yet. It twisted back toward me, fury in its glowing eyes.Archer moved beside me like a protective rock.“Don’t let them surround us!” he shouted, his sword flashing in the sunlight as he cut down another beast, “Stay on the move!” He h
Ellie. The dawn was just breaking, casting a soft golden light over the assembled warriors. They had come from all corners of the kingdom in their large numbers, their expressions set in serious determination.Archer stood at the front, his presence commanding as he addressed them.“We are not waiting for the witches to come to us,” Archer’s voice boomed over the crowd. The warriors stood at attention, their eyes fixed on him.“We’re going to hunt them down. We’re going to seek them out, and we’re going to exterminate every last one of them.”A murmur of approval rippled through the crowd, the tension building in the air. It had been a week since we discovered the serum worked. I’d spent three days on lockdown, recovering after giving so much of my blood for the serum. It hadn’t been easy, but now, after my rest, I felt ready. More than ready. I needed to be out there with them.Beside me, Tristian shifted his weight, his gaze focused on Archer. He hadn’t wanted to leave Gilly’s side,
Ellie.“We found a way to make it work!”Archer and I exchanged a look, a slow smile forming on both of our faces. The tension that had been hovering over us for days seemed to lift just a little.“Show us, then,” Archer said, his voice calm but eager. He slipped his hand into mine as Julie gestured for us to follow her.We walked through the halls of the research center, the walls gleaming white under the fluorescent lights. The scent of chemicals and something distinctly metallic filled the air, making my nose twitch. My mind raced, trying to piece together how they’d done it—how they’d managed to do it.Julie led us into the main lab, where an animal—a sleek, muscular dog—stood next to a warrior wolf. The warrior looked calm, though I couldn’t help the slight edge of concern that rippled through me.“Is it safe to use a warrior for this test?” I asked, squeezing Archer’s hand a little tighter.Julie nodded, her smile not faltering for a second. “Completely safe. We’ve run simulatio
Ellie. In the following days, leading up to a week, I had a routine.Every morning, I’d submit more blood for testing, spend hours in the lab with Julie and the others, searching for a way to make it work, then I’d head over to the training grounds for training with the warriors. And Archer worried more with each passing day. I could see it in the lines forming on his face, the way his hands would linger on my shoulders, as if grounding himself to make sure I was still alive and well, when I returned.Today was no different. I had just returned from training with the other wolves, my muscles sore, when I found Archer in our room, waiting for me. His eyes flicked to the bandage on my arm before locking with mine.“This can’t go on much longer, Ellie,” he said quietly, standing from the chair he’d been sitting in, “If Julie doesn’t come up with something concrete this time, I’m putting an end to it.”I sighed, pulling my hair out of its messy bun and running a hand through it.“Archer,
Ellie.“Ellie, can I talk to you? Alone?” Archer asked, his voice was soft but firm.I nodded, following him out of the research lab. Julie stayed behind with the other seven wolves, their faces a mix of shock and curiosity. The door closed behind us, and the silence that settled between Archer and me felt heavier with each passing step. He wasn’t saying anything, his jaw tight, and I found myself pressing my lips together, wondering what he was thinking. We walked in silence through the halls until we finally reached our room and when the door clicked shut, and I turned to face him, the tension between us lingering like a storm about to break.“Are you angry with me?” I asked, unable to keep the question to myself any longer.Archer shook his head, but his eyes were serious as they met mine. He reached out, taking my hand, his touch soft despite the weight in his gaze.“No, I’m not angry, Ellie. I just… I need to know what your plan is.”I swallowed, my heart racing a little.“I’m wi
Ellie. As Julie and I walked out of the royal hospital, I could feel my heart banging loudly in my chest. But just as we stepped through the entrance, we encountered Jacob, who was making his way inside. He bowed respectfully, a warm smile breaking across his face as he greeted us.“Your Highness, Lady Julie,” he said, his tone a mix of formality and friendliness.“Jacob,” I replied, returning his smile. “How are things?”“Busy, as always,” he said with a slight chuckle. “But I can’t complain because everyone is going through it.”“You’re right,” Julie nodded.“Has there been any progress on your end? about Gilly?” I asked and he shook his head.“She wasn’t poisoned, so there’s no antidote she can be given. She wasn’t cursed, so there’s no ritual we can do to lift the curse. I think we just have to let her regain consciousness herself,” He said and I sighed.“Thank you, Jacob,” I told him and with a nod, Julie and I continued on our way, leaving the hospital behind. But even as we wal
