Seeing Calla, Carol said, "You fell asleep earlier, so we didn't wake you up for lunch. We left some food in the pot for you. Hurry and eat before Clover wakes up."

"Okay." Calla nodded and then went to the kitchen to get her food.

As Calla sat at the dining table to eat, she thought about what had just happened. It weighed down on her, but she couldn't talk to her mother about it, so she felt even more stifled.

Calla was going through the motions, feeling like she was chewing on tasteless wax.

"She admitted that she said some things to you today that
