These were probably the most beautiful words of affection Calla had ever heard from Mercer. She found herself a bit entranced by him.

Calla buried her head in the crook of his neck, taking in his scent.

Within seconds, the two had reconciled, and any lingering tension between them dissolved completely.

A moment later, Calla lifted her head from Mercer's embrace. She grasped the collar of his coat with both hands and said seriously, "Mercer, let's not see each other for two weeks."

Mercer frowned upon hearing this. "But you said you weren't angry anymore. You—"

"I'm not saying this out of anger. I'm serious this time." Despite the heavy tone, there was no trace of anger on Calla's face.

"What do you mean, then?" Mercer asked, looking at Calla in confusion.

Calla glanced at the hospital building behind them and said, "I don't want to fight with you over Sophie anymore. I'm giving you two weeks to sort things out with Sophie. When we meet again, I want us to be free of any burde
