Belle's POV

My heart tore in a million pieces as I watched Zane walked away looking angry. But for the IV ropes that was still dripping with saline water, I would have pursued after him.

Returning my gaze to my mother who looked like an angry mother bear, I tried to maintain some form of composure despite the deafening silence that hung over the room.

My father’s stern voice broke the silence first. “Who was that?” he demanded, his eyes boring into mine.

“He’s just a friend,” I replied softly, my voice trembling. “He helped me when I had an accident.”

My mother stepped closer, her face etched with worry and anger. “Accident you say? What the hell happened, Belle?”

I knew Dave must have already told them his version of events before they arrived. I could imagine him pushing all the blame onto me, making it seem like I was the one who had caused the miscarriage, like I was the one who had killed our baby.

Taking a deep breath, I said, “The baby is gone.”
