[ Celeste ]

“PUT HER DOWN IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE KILLED!”

My heart dropped to my chest and my stomach started doing flips when the powerful, scary and a blood-curdling growl of Alpha Darius echoed in the wooden walls of the house. I gulped hard because I could feel his wolf also wreathing in anger.

“I am sorry, Alpha. I had received orders from Aunt.” Beta Keith apologized to his Alpha in a low tone and slowly placed me down.

My body was too weak to stand properly so as soon as my feet touched the floor, my legs buckled and I fell down hurting my broken ribs more. My abdomen was in a toe curling pain but I learn better to bear it. I made sure that my head was lowered and neck bend in surrender motion if I don’t want to be killed.

“Darius, we need to talk.” Luna Julia’s soft voice rang into my ear and a part of me relieved. At least, there’s someone who won’t hurt me.

“Mother, why did you order Keith to bring this rogue into our packhouse. I am going to decide her fate in the morning.” Alpha Darius said disdainfully and my eyes again teared up.

Moon Goddess gave me two chances to have a mate but they both loathe me and don’t want to see me alive.

“Darius, I know who she is and how dare you to treat her like a prisoner and who told you that she is a rogue? Can’t you see the training scars on her body?” Luna Julia reprimanded him in a raised voice and I flinched at her sharp tone.

“Mother, she is not what you think. It’s a huge mistake and I her back in the dungeon.” He said.

“She’ll stay here in the guestroom. If she is really Alpha Paul’s daughter, we need to ask him first and till then she will live here. Can’t you see, she needs a doctor.” Luna Julia advocated me.

“Do whatever you want but don’t regret later.” Darius, who lost the argument with his mother, stormed out of there and I felt guilty that I was the reason of conflict between them.

Luna Julia turned to me and her stern face softened.

“Don’t be sad, my dear. He is confused because we all lost the hope that he’ll find his mate one day. Give him some time. He’ll eventually come around and accept you. I know my son.” She said to me softly.

I wish I could tell her the truth, the dark chapters of my past.

“Keith, go and call the pack’s doctor and made sure no one knows about Celeste. We need to protect her until she recovers.” Julia instructed Beta Keith who threw me a blank glance.

“Sure, Aunt.” He said and left.

“You need clean clothes and a warm bath, Celeste. The maids will help you to your room because I don’t want any male to be killed by your mate. You saw how he reacted when he spotted you in Keith’s arms.” She said.

“Thank you, Luna.” I bowed to her in respect.

“You’re beautiful, Celeste. I always had the faith that Darius’ mate must be a very beautiful woman.” She said and two maids came to help me. I felt embarrassed when their eyes fell on my bloody and soiled clothes.

They helped me to reach into a big, spacious room. I looked around, the packhouse is the biggest of all that I have seen. They took me to the bathroom and I asked them to wait outside because I didn’t want them to see my scarred body.

Removing my clothes, I saw my reflection in the giant mirror. I had lost the charm, the glow I once had. My hand touched my flat belly. Fresh tears rolled down from my eyes. Melissa, my own sister gave me the deepest scars.

The warm water washed my body and relieved my aching muscles but my emotional wounds won’t be healed. They are deeply carved on my heart and soul.

After shower, I changed into the clothes that maids brought for me. Luna Julia came back with a female doctor and I felt my heart dropping. She’d definitely tell Luna Julia what exactly happened to me.

“Don’t be nervous, Celeste. The doctor is an expert. She’ll treat you in no time. I’ll come back as soon as she’ll be done.” Julia touched my hairs lovingly and I felt more guilty. She left the room.

“Please, lay down and let me check if there’s an internal injury because then we have to take you to the hospital. The scratches and cuts will be healed by some ointments.” The doctor said and having no other choice, I laid down on the soft mattress and prayed the Goddess to save me.

She examined me thoroughly. She frowned when she touched my belly and I winced as there was pain.

“If you don’t mind, I want to check something.” She said and pointed me to pull my skirt up.

I licked my lips nervously and looked down, “Doctor, your doubts are right. I..I..lost..a bba..baby.” I stuttered with my answer. It was as much painful as the physical pain.

She gave me a sympathetic look.

“I am sorry to hear this, Miss. I have to inform this to the Luna. She has right to know everything.” She said and fear engulfed me. My truth will be out if Julia learns about my miscarriage.

“No, please don’t tell her yet or they’ll kill me.” I begged her. My eyes were flowing with tears.

“I fear I have to tell her because we don’t know who you are and why are you here.” She said and moved towards the door.

She opened the door and Luna Julia walked in. Her smile changed into a frown when she saw me crying. She rushed to me and held my shoulders.

“What happened, Celeste? Why are you crying? Doctor, what happened?” She looked between me and the doctor cluelessly.

“Luna, this girl has gone through something very terrible.” The doctor said and I squeezed my eyes shut, “She had a miscarriage recently, perhaps yesterday and I think we have to admit her in the hospital to ensure that her womb won’t get infected. She isn’t treated.” The doctor told her and a shocked Luna turned to look at me.

I had no dare to look at her. I was too ashamed to face her who treated me with kindness.                                                                                                                                                                                                     "Who did this to you, Celeste?" She asked me, her eyes turned dark and I could feel anger radiating through her body.
