Chapter 013

"I lost my phone. I was here last night, and I think I must have dropped it or something."

"Oh, it was taken by the group of friends you were with yesterday."

I burned with anxiety. My supposed group of friends were Everett and his compatriots, people I didn't even know. My resistance to Everett's advances had only angered him yesterday-that much I knew for sure. What if Mr. Williams happened to text me when the phone was in Everett's hands?

Swallowing hard, I thanked the bartender as I felt prickles of pins and needles in my chest. This was wrong; my vision was tunneled as I imagined what was the next best move.

"Ada, can I use your phone? I need to call Everett." My mouth felt like it had cotton in it as I dialed.
