Chapter Eighty

Mack came back onto the deck, his sunglasses now covering his eyes. His jaw was taunt when he walked by, and his energy spewed into the rest of us. He was pissed, and it took everything in me to keep from following him.

“I don’t think we’re off to a good start,” Mindy muttered once he was halfway to the guest house. “Is he staying there?”

“Yes,” I said nonchalantly. “He took the room by mine after we played cards.”

“He was in a good mood last night,” Gary sighed. “Better than I’ve seen in a while. Even when we were losing at cards.”

“For a guy as invested at being successful, you’d think he’d have a more competitive spirit,” Cody said.

“He’s competitive, he’s just good at hiding it,” Gary said quickly, picking up his plate and mug.
