Turning Closer

Maya's instincts were telling her something was off. Yesterday night, Dante's parents had called him. Their wedding anniversary was tomorrow and they were throwing a lavish party. They had also invited her which was bizarre. Mrs. Martinez had invited her personally and insisted she attended with Dante. Dante had also insisted, believing socialising would do her good.

Ignoring the nagging feeling, she briskly dusted off the imaginary dirt from her gown and retreated a step to assess her appearance in the mirror. She resembled her former self in this classy blue gown- the shadow under her eyes had diminished, her heart-shaped face appeared fuller and she no longer looked malnourished. Leaning closer to the mirror, the woman scrutinized her makeup. She had put on makeup for the first time in what felt like forever. There was a time when she was obssessed with make up. Her collection included all the high-end brands and she even had perfumes custome-made for her. She was so spoiled.
