How Dare You?

I ran like I'd never run before. It didn't matter that I had a small bag of things with me. I was running for my life. Rouges did unspeakable things to other wolves. I didn't want to be a victim.

I felt them hot on my tail and I knew they enjoyed hunting me down.

“We just want to play… don't run, birdie”, I heard them yell from behind me. I didn't look back; I just kept going, and soon, I made it out of the forest and reached the roads. But it was early in the morning and the roads were deserted.

“Nowhere to run”, I heard the dreaded voices of the rogues behind me.

I couldn't even shift to escape them because I didn't have a wolf, a reality that hit me harder now when I most needed it.

They shifted into their wolf forms, and it was scary to watch their big forms approaching me with blood-red eyes and gnarly teeth.

I started to run along the road again, hoping, praying for something to happen as they stalked slowly behind me.

Just then, I saw the headlights of a car and it stopped in front of me as I shook in fear. A man got out of the back seat of the car. He was wearing a long black cloak which covered his face.

I stared at him, amazed as he stood between me and the rouge wolves. There was something so brilliantly intoxicating about him. His aura was so strong, so powerful. Yet it felt dark… scary.

“Leave now while you still can” His voice was deep and intimidating. I saw the rouges backing away slowly at first as they looked at each other. But suddenly, one of them lunged at the man. With one motion, he waved his hands out with such force that he hit the wolf, sending him flying into a tree. He let out a loud whimper.

“I won't say it again. Leave now or die”

The rouges quickly ran away with their tails between their legs. The man turned to me and stretched out his hand to help me up. I took it, noting how cold his touch felt.

“What are you doing alone out here?” His face was still covered as he spoke to me.

“I'm running away from something… well someone”

“It's not safe for you to be alone at this time. Come with me, I can drop you off somewhere along the way”

“Oh, thank you”

I followed the man into his car and his driver started driving. At first, there was an awkward silence before I spoke up.

“You don't seem to be from around here”

“No, I'm not”

I nodded and he turned towards me. “Why are you running away?”

“Because my father is an ass, and he arranged my marriage to the Lycan king, who has a terrible reputation. I couldn't just sit back and wait to be married off to a beast who would eventually kill me once he got bored of me”

“This beast you speak of, have you met him before?”

“No, I haven't. No one has, really; he doesn't partake in social events a lot, and he often just sends people to do his bidding. But I've heard the stories…” I shivered at the thought of being strangled to death in my sleep or being poisoned at his hands.

“My pack doesn't want me either, I'm just a weak girl without a wolf. I couldn't stay anymore” I finished, looking outside the window.

“I can only imagine. But what if this beast Lycan goes looking for you? If he's anything as you've described, I'm sure he wouldn't rest till he found you”

“He can't find me. I doubt he even knows what I look like” I looked at him, still covered in his cloak and I grew curious.

“And you, what do you look like under that cloak?”

“You don't need to concern yourself with me. You should rest, you've been through a lot”

I was very tired so I indulged him. In reality, it felt like I'd only closed my eyes for a few minutes, but when I woke up, it was bright and the sun was shining down on us.

I took out my phone and checked the time. It was just after noon. I had several missed calls from my mother. I ignored it and put my phone down.

I turned to the man, but he was busy on his phone, too. I was about to thank him and ask that he drop me off here when I looked up at where we were.

My heart began to beat faster.

“W-why are we here?” I turned to the man.

“I have a business to attend to here,” He said nonchalantly as he continued staring at his phone.

“No… no. This is my pack I can't be here”

I tried to open the door but it was locked.

“Please let me out. Thank you for helping me but I have to go now”

He turned to me. I got a small glimpse of him, but that was all. I felt a strange feeling of dread as stared at me. His hand rose to my face, as his thumb brushed over it.

“Who did this to you?” I knew he was referring to the bruise marks

“That's not important. I'm fine please just let me get out”

“Tell me, who hit you”

Before I could answer him, we pulled up right in front of my house and my eyes widened in shock and fear.

“No… no… why are we here? Did my father pay you to do this?! Let me out now!” I banged against the door, and finally, it opened. I got out but before I could even make a move, my father came out.

“Alpha Lucian,” He said as he stared at the man next to me. “You're early…”

“Is that a problem?”

“No, no not at all”

My belly churned as it began to dawn on me… It was him, the man my father wanted me to marry.

Then my father turned to me.

“You, foolish girl, you thought you could run away” he raised his hand, and I flinched, but his assault never came. I opened my eyes to see Alpha Lucian standing in front of me, holding my father's hand.

My father looked like he was staring at the devil himself. I'd never seen him so scared. He stumbled back as Lucian turned to me.

“Has he hit you before?”

I turned away, not giving him a response. But my silence and the bruises on my face were enough of an answer for him.

“How dare you. This will be the last time you raise a hand to my future wife. I'll show you why they call me the beast Lycan”

Iris's POVI gulped at his words, he didn't look like he was joking. My gaze locked with Jacob’s for a split second, and I tore my eyes away immediately. I didn't want to think of him anymore. The more I did, the more pain I felt. His words kept playing in my head, “By the moon goddess, I reject you, Iris Greywell, as my mate.”My eyes shut tightly as I tried to push those memories aside. Lucian gently placed me in the car and covered my shoulders. There was silence as the car moved. I was leaving home and getting married soon to someone who wasn't my mate. This was something I never expected nor wished for.All my life, I had prayed to get my own wolf and a mate who would love me. Well, I had gotten the mate, but alongside it came another package: rejection.I couldn't help but chuckle at how pathetic my life was. I would also soon end up missing and dead, like all his wives. Thinking of this, I subtly looked at Lucian. He laid on the seat, with his hands on his forehead; he was pro

Right from when we met, I knew there was more to her than what others saw.She shifted uncomfortably on the seat, I could tell she had more questions to ask as her green eyes were filled with curiosity. Stepping outside, I was wowed by the mansion that stood before me but I put on a neutral expression.I had never seen anyone like it. It was built in an ancient style unlike the common modern buildings I was used to seeing. The mansion looked like it was from another era, with its grand arched windows and their stained design which, cast colorful patterns on the surrounding area. The entrance door stood strong and firm, with its intricate designs of wolves and other mythical creatures.I was so engrossed in admiring the building that I didn't even notice when a man walked by. He looked to be in his late forties. He spoke with Lucian before walking towards me.“Milady, I'm elder Damon. It's a pleasure to meet the

Sighing, I pushed open the door and took a look at the room. It was stunning, as expected. A king-sized bed lay in the middle with pink fluffy pillows and blankets. The wall of the room was painted pink, even the wardrobe was pink. I wasn't much of a pink girl, so it irked me.I walked towards the wardrobe and opened it, I sucked in my breath. In it were both royal and modern dresses, all made by designers. I opened another part of the wardrobe, which was filled with different bags, and another contained jewelry and other necessities.“What the hell I’m I going to use all t

The only time he lost his composure was when his brother, Ariel was involved in something.Ariel had been getting involved with Nikolai these days, and had been protecting him for some reasons. Well, it was I who instructed him to do so but I couldn't let Azariel know, at least not now.On a normal day, Nicolai would have been a corpse for daring to look at what was mine. IrisI felt a bright light hit my face, and I sat up with a grunt. It was morning, and it seemed like the sun was perched right at my window.I sat up rubbing my eyes with one hand, and rubbing my forehead with the other. A panging headache gripped me as I recalled the events of the day before. The last thing I remembered were the butler's words, “No, milady, I'm a ghoul,” before I blacked out.The first thought that came to mind at that moment was to run, but instead, I passed out. How did I get back to my room? Was it the butler that brought me here?I shivered at the thought of him picking me up. Of course, I had the right to be scared; who wouldn't be? I was face to face with a freaking ghoul and I’d have to see him probably everyday.Ghouls are creatures that rob graves and feed on dead bodies. Maybe he eats the dead bodies of Lucian's wives after he kills them.“Shit! I have to get out of here.” I muttered.I should have expected this from someone like Lucian, with the reputatio

He was holding onto Azariel's neck with the intent to choke him.I took a look at his dead subordinates, they didn't rise up. This meant that he was the only one that was fully evolved. Somehow, I expected that something like this would happen. Azariel released himself from his grip and flung him aside. With an increased speed, he lunged at Azariel again. This time his attacks were more brutal. Azariel dodged with ease, but wasn't able to throw an attack.I noticed something, he didn't make an attempt to attack me despite the fact he had eye contact from time to time. It's like after each day of torture, a part of my memories gets wiped away. But I do know that I have a family. Who they are, I can't seem to remember. Who I was, I don't know.” She punched the neatly trimmed grass frustratingly.“I hate to be a burden to anyone. At least I wouldn't worry much about her.Thoughts of last night flowed in, and I covered my face with my pillow, groaning and kicking my legs up. It was so embarrassing the more I thought of it. Samantha and Eloise had gone to eat their breakfast, and I was alone and extremely bored. I was getting tired of this routine, waking, freshening up, eating breakfast and scrolling away on my phone. Come to think of it, I was more like a prisoner. I had never stepped out of this mansion since I arrived. I was the so-called Luna yet I didn't even know what the pack looked like. There was more to Iris, and it was slowly becoming more evident. It would be bad if news of her upcoming ability gets to the wrong ears. Not everyone could see Kael, even some of the powerful beings couldn't see him, yet Iris who was wolf-less, saw him. “Show yourself, idiot.” I said, as I hopped onto a table, tilting my head to the side.“You haven't changed, disrespectful brat.” A child’s voice echoed in the library.“You speak a lot for someone so small. Don't forget I could easily stomp on you, and you’d be forgotten, kid.” I smirked.“Don't call me that!” He snapped. “You remind me of a girl I met earlier. There was no route and that made it harder. Everywhere was just covered by silly, annoying flowers that irked me.
