CHAPTER 20

(The wedding's day).

Carla was silent for the entire drive. She took a deep breath as the van drove through the black-painted iron gates of the large open-air garage of her new home.

As B.J. parked the vehicle and turned it off, he glanced at her in the rearview mirror. She closed her eyes and stayed that way for several seconds. He would give her all the time she needed.

The moment he tried to get out of the vehicle, she spoke:

"Don't yet." Her soft voice cut through the van.

He obeyed. Carla sighed.

"How much do you know?"

"Excuse me?"

"How much do you know about what's going to happen today," she said without a questioning tone.

"As much as necessary, Miss..."

"Davis," she snapped. "You were going to call me Bastidas, weren't you? I'm not married to him yet."

He cleared his throat but said nothing about it.

She looked at Gladis through the glass, who came out to greet her. The lady was already frowning because no one was getting out of the car.
