The Awaited

Freya ran away with her stolen cargo and the entire time she berated herself. What was she doing acting like some misplaced hero in a dying movie? She was nobody’s hero and by the time Riordan joined them several miles later, she was angry at herself. She came to a halt and got down from the horse, putting the little girl down unceremoniously. Perhaps it was her cute tiny face that lured her into that chivalry because even now she could feel her countenance softening again.

She glanced at Riordan helplessly.

“What are we to do with a kid?” She asked him and he folded his arms and watched her.

“I should be asking you that.” He replied and she huffed. Of course he was no use now. She crouched in front of the girl and smiled.

“Hello. My name is Freya, how about you?” She asked. The little girl said nothing, her wide eyes stark with fear.
