Chapter 1: Save Your Heir
REBEKKA Activity was bustling in the clinic as I held my mop close to my chest and weaved through the crowd to make my way over to the bedside of one of the pack warriors who had just vomited blood on the tiled floor. I put the mop down and cleaned up the mess and was about rinsing it free when I heard my name. “Rebekka! Get over here!” Doctor Purcell yelled as he struggled to hold down a combative patient. I dropped the mop and the bucket and ran over to him, “Yes, Master!” “Hold him down, I need to pull out all these shards!” He commanded. The man on the table eyed me wickedly as I tried to hold his hands down by his side, with a little shake he sent me stumbling backwards and I fell to the floor. I wasn’t even strong enough to hold down an injured pack warrior. “Get out of the way, mutt!” a vicious voice called out to me. I stiffened and looked up, shifting out of the way quickly. The man that spoke to me, along with two other men, were covered in blood and were pushing a gurney hurriedly into the pack clinic. On the bed was the most handsome man I had ever seen! He was shirtless and covered in blood but even that did not dampen how hot he looked. I felt a tightness in my chest as I gawked at him as I got to my feet, Who the hell was that? The initial excitement was replaced by a wave of fear, when I saw his injuries. Why was he bleeding so much? I didn’t think I had seen so much blood in my life. I felt sick. I just stood there as he was wheeled in and Doctor Purcell left the patient he was treating to give all his attention to the hot injured man that was just brought in. I shook off the fear and confusion, I was in a clinic and one day I was hoping I might be able to work here as a doctor, I should not be scared of the sight of such blood or injury. I went about my normal duties of cleaning up after patients and changing soiled sheets. Later that evening, as I was returning from a supply run, I saw a line forming up outside the clinic. What was this about? “Excuse me miss, please why are you lining up here?” I asked the last lady on the line. She eyed me head to toe and then smirked, “Are you sure that you are in this pack at all?” She looked at my uniform, “How can you work in the clinic and have no idea what is going on?” I was caught off guard by her aggression, “What is going on?” I asked innocently. She rolled her eyes at me, “If you are so curious, go to the town square!” she replied. I left her side and made my way over to the town square, today had just been weird. Firstly, we got a huge influx of pack warriors, it looked like they had been in some kind of fight or battle, with whom I had no idea. We were not through dealing with that and now there was a line forming up outside the clinic, was some rare disease going around? The voice of the alpha’s messenger boomed loudly and interrupted my thoughts, “Loyal members of the Half Moon Pack, today, your heir, the son of the great alpha Michael needs your help. He has been poisoned with wolfsbane by devious witches and is near death!” I gasped in shock, the alpha’s son was dying? How? Where? Something pinged in my brain and I remembered the young sexy man that was rushed in by those three menacing men. Could that be the alpha’s son? My heart began to thump in my chest. “He has a rare blood type and as such we need to find a donor for him or else he will die. Save your heir’s life… go to the clinic now and get tested, there awaits a huge reward for whoever shall save his life!” Before I could finish processing what I had heard, I was already running back to the clinic to join the line. How could I be aspiring to be a doctor like Master Purcell in the future and yet allow the alpha’s son to die under my nose? I couldn’t let that happen, I doubted that a low born like me would amount to any good but I was determined to do my best to save his life. I joined the queue and waited impatiently for my turn. Kaitlin glared at me when it was her turn to draw my blood, “What the hell do you think you are doing here?” “Please test me,” I said and bowed curtly. “What good could your blood be to anyone?” she added. “Next!” she shouted, looking past me. “Please test me, Kaitlin, please!” I refused to bulge. “Get away mutt, you are holding up the line!” the man directly behind me shouted. I winced but didn’t bulge, “Please Kaitlin,” I pleaded. Doctor Purcell came over with an annoyed look on his face, “What’s the matter here?” “Dad, Rebekka joined the queue!” Kaitlin ratted off. Doctor Purcell eyed me then looked at his daughter, “Just test her, this is urgent.” “But…” she began to protest. “Just do it and be done with it,” he cut her off. “Give me your hand!” She said in annoyance. Kaitlin jabbed me with the needle and drew my blood, I winced in pain, looked like she did it intentionally to hurt me. She put a drop of it on the yellow Stardust leaf and then gasped when it turned deep red. “Dad!” she yelled. I looked from the leaf to her face, “Please, what is going on?” Doctor Purcell ran over, as soon as he saw the red leaf his eyes widened and he looked at me, “You are a match!” Before I could show my surprise, two guards moved forward and grabbed me and led me into the clinic to a room and a bed, adjacent to me was the alpha’s son, Lord Stephan. Everything happened so fast. One minute I am getting tested and the next I am being laid down and prepped. The last thing I remembered before passing out was the drip being hurriedly fixed into my left hand and then everything faded into blackness.159 – END OF AN ERADAMON POVHe hesitated, his sharp claws inches from my neck, “What?”“I am your son,” I said weakly. As I spoke, I could feel my vision starting to return clearly, strength was starting to filter back into my limp limbs. If only I could buy a few more seconds.“Impossible… you are a liar and a traitor!” he said and then raised up his hand again to finish the job.“Miranda…” I said weakly.I felt him stiffen… his eyes went from angry to surprised and then back to enraged… “How do you know that name!” he yelled. The High witch that was fucking with his blood was already on her knees, I could see her straining, whatever she was doing was killing her faster than it was killing him.If I was going to act, it had to be soon, else I would lose the window. I willed my healing to happen faster, for me to get enough strength.“That was my mother’s name… your first mate…”I felt his grip around my neck slacken and I gasped for air… I could breathe a little better now.“No, no
158 – CUTTING FAMILY TIESDAMON POV“Now!” I yelled. In response, the cloaking spell broke and a hoard of witches poured out of their hiding places.Alpha Michael’s gaze remained on me for a second, something that resembled pain and nerve-racking disappointment flickered in his eyes and then it was gone.I blinked as the full brunt of his disappointment hit me, I shuddered from it. Fuck him! I had no reason to feel this way, this was all his doing. His gaze had shifted from me and he dismounted from his horse swiftly, “You vermin want me? Come get me!” he roared. It was absolute chaos after that and I sat there on my horse watching it all play out.“Kill Michael… Gwen is mine!” a disembodied voice rippled through the hoard as Lady Cecile descended smoothly from above. All the witches and warlocks turned their attention to alpha Michael while Cecile began walking towards Gwen.Gwen came down from her horse and frowned deeply, I could see fear dancing in her eyes.Good, this was what sh
157 – UNION AND BETRAYALDAMON POVI still could not believe it, it was actually happening, alpha Michael was outside the pack and only three of us were guarding him; me, Tennyson and Dogma. This was surreal, was it that he was a man who held tradition so deeply or was it as Lady Cecile said that his ego truly would not allow him to ask for more guards or do anything that would break the solemnity of the ritual?Either way, it didn’t matter, today was the day he died!“Damon!”His deep voice snapped me out of my thoughts.“Yes, alpha,” I jerked the reins of my horse towards his.“Ride with me,” he said.I nodded wordlessly as my horse matched strides beside his.“Tell me about yourself,” he said looking forward as we rode.My eyes widened in surprise as I stared at him, “Sir?”I swallowed.“It is going to be a long ride, I can do without the silence,” he said, he still hadn’t looked at me.It was not as if I had a choice, I had to humor him, it was kind of poetic justice that my voice
156 – THREATS AND PLANSDAMON POV“She slapped me!” Vanessa yelled maniacally as she struggled to get to Rebekka.“Cry me a river,” I replied to her and then shoved her slightly backwards. “It’s over,” I repeated to her, keeping my index finger trained on her.I turned to Rebekka, “Are you okay?”She was breathing heavily and glaring at Vanessa.I smiled, I loved how fierce she looked.“Damon, I am not going to forget this, I will make sure that I made that wretch pay for what she did.”I ignored Vanessa and kept my gaze on Rebekka, “One moment, Darling,” I flashed her another smile.Quickly, I spun around and marched towards Vanessa. For a brief moment, fear registered in her eyes as I closed the distance, I saw her stiffen.I grabbed a hold of her arm and pulled her with me, “Let’s talk, shall we?”“Get off me!” she yelled.I ignored her and kept dragging her along until we were well beyond ear shot of the clinic and then I shoved her roughly.Vanessa staggered and almost fell befor
155 – CATFIGHTREBEKKA POV“What is The Wandering?” I asked in a timid voice.Sir Claude was still there and he appeared to be deep in thoughts as he leaned on the door frame of the lobby. My voice seemed to bring him out of the deep thought that he was in. “Huh?” he grunted.“You told Lord Stephan that the alpha was going for The Wandering… what is it?”He eyed me from toe to head, “You must think that Stephan is the only one that is pissed at you, right?”I gasped and my breath caught in my chest.“Think I didn’t see what happened between you and Damon? Everyone saw it, Rebekka. Congratulations, well done.” He clapped mockingly at me.“I –”“Save it,” he cut me off. “Unlike Stephan, I am not madly in love with you. I don’t care about your excuses and lies.”His words cut through me like a scalpel through skin. I winced at the pain.Unlike Stephan, I am not madly in love with you. Those words echoed in my head. Sir Claude had always been straight with me, there was no doubt about it
154 – LIKE FATHER LIKE SONSTEPHAN POV“Rebekka!” I yelled as I kicked open the clinic door and walked into the lobby. My body was shaking and I was gnashing my teeth to try and contain the rage that wanted to explode within me.“Lord Stephan, is everything –”Dr Purcell stopped mid-sentence when he saw the way I was glaring at him.“Fetch me Rebekka, now!” I thundered. He stiffened and staggered backwards before running and disappearing upstairs.I stood there in the lobby like a sentry, unmoving, just fuming.Rebekka came gingerly down the stairs, even from where I was standing, I could hear her heart pounding in her chest.“So this is what you have been doing behind my back?” The words escaped my mouth as soon as she walked into sight.Dr Purcell was right behind her, a confused and scared look on his face as he looked from me to Rebekka, I paid him no mind, my focus was on her.My eyes strayed to her lips, almost thirty minutes ago, Damon was all over them, a snarl escaped my mout
