I picked up the card and tucked it into my purse.

The cold night air bit at my skin as I walked home from the railway station. My heels clicked against the pavement, each step heavier than the last. My head pounded, my body ached, and my heart was in shambles.

By the time I reached my apartment, exhaustion weighed me down like a lead blanket. I collapsed onto the couch, staring at the ceiling. I wanted to forget the humiliation, the betrayal, the jeering laughter still ringing in my ears. But my mind was a battleground, replaying every single moment.

I pulled out my phone and typed a message to my best friend, Silver.

"I lost everything. I don’t know what to do."

The message sent, but there was no immediate reply. Not that I expected one—it was late.

Curling up on the couch, I hugged a pillow to my chest.

Kenneth’s betrayal wasn’t just about the engagement.

It was about all the years I had wasted.

All the sacrifices.

All the love I thought was real.

Tears slipped down my face, but this time, I didn’t sob. I just lay there—broken.

Out of habit, I scrolled through my phone. But the moment I opened social media, I wished I hadn’t.

Kenneth’s engagement photos were everywhere.

Every angle. Every detail.

Kenneth, smiling.

Sophia, flashing her diamond ring.

Guests, celebrating their "love."

I felt the sting behind my eyes, but I refused to cry. Instead, I tossed my phone across the bed and curled up, swallowing the pain like a bitter pill.

Somewhere in this city, Kenneth was moving on.

Without regret.

Without me.

Across town, Kenneth stood in front of a mirror as his mother straightened his tie.

She smiled at him, pride gleaming in her eyes.

"It’s best you broke up with that illiterate girl," she chuckled.

Kenneth smirked. "Yeah, Mom. Ivana was nothing but a fool."

His mother giggled, clearly pleased. "Look at how pretty and smart your new fiancée is," she cooed.

Kenneth didn’t disagree. Sophia was his equal. Wealthy. Educated. Powerful.

His mother patted his shoulder. "I have a dinner date with your father. See you soon, darling."

Kenneth just smirked as she left.

A loud bang at my door jolted me awake the next morning.

I groaned, rubbing my temples as the knocking continued, insistent and relentless. Dragging myself up, I swung the door open.

Silver stood there, arms crossed, eyes blazing.

Beside her—my mother.

The moment I saw her, I lost all resolve.

I collapsed into her embrace, my body shaking.

She had warned me. Over and over.

And I had ignored her.

I was the prodigal daughter. The girl who threw away her future for love.

She stroked my hair, her warmth seeping into my cold, empty heart. "My baby," she whispered.

We stepped inside, and Silver shut the door behind us.

The room was silent, thick with unspoken words.

Silver finally broke it. "So, what’s your plan?"

I let out a hollow laugh. "Plan?" I whispered, blinking back fresh tears. "I have no plan."

Silver sighed, shaking her head.

My mother sat beside me, patting my back. "Oh, my baby," she murmured.

Her voice was gentle, but laced with sadness.

"You’re still my precious jewel," she said, cupping my face. "This pain will pass."

I closed my eyes.

I wanted to believe her.

"I’ll take a loan," she continued. "Send you back to school. You have so much potential, Ivana. I’ve seen your designs, your passion. You could be one of the greatest in the fashion industry."

Her words touched something deep inside me.

She believed in me—even when I didn’t believe in myself.

But I shook my head. "No, Mom. No loans. I don’t want you carrying my burden."

She frowned. "You’re not a burden."

I looked down at my hands. "I just... need time."

She sighed but didn’t push. She just held me.

They stayed until late afternoon. My mother suggested I move back home, but shame burned deep inside me.

How could I return?

I had abandoned her for Kenneth.

I had chosen him over her.

"I can’t," I whispered.

She held my hands, eyes filled with understanding. "Baby, I never drove you away. My arms will always be open for you."

I nodded, swallowing hard.

She kissed my forehead, and with one final look, she and Silver left.

I exhaled sharply and flopped onto the bed.

Monday. A new week. A fresh start.

I had to move on.

I had to go to work.

Kenneth’s phone buzzed as he stepped into his living room.

Ring, ring.

He answered. "Yes?"

"This is the house agent speaking. We’ve found a buyer for the house. Should we proceed?"

Kenneth barely hesitated.

"Yes. Go ahead."

And just like that, the house I had bought for him, the house I worked heavily for was gone.

Just like me.

I arrived at the boutique for my shift, pushing through my exhaustion.

Mondays were always the busiest in the week.

As shoppers roamed the aisles, eager to spend their money on luxury brands.

Once, I had dreamed of owning my own fashion store.

Now, I was just surviving.

I was adjusting a mannequin’s dress when a voice sliced through the air.

"Look who we have here."

My breath caught.

Slowly, I turned.

Kenneth stood in front of me, smirking.

And beside him was Sophia.

My stomach twisted.

They were here, in my boss store, shopping for their wedding.

I clenched my fists, forcing myself to remain calm.

Sophia looked me up and down, then turned to Kenneth with a smirk.

"Dear," she said sweetly, voice dripping with mockery, "how did you ever end up dating her?"

Her words struck like a slap.

And just like that, the wounds tore open again.

I forced a smile, but inside, something dark and dangerous stirred.

Maybe it was time to call Josh.

"I mean, she has no standards and is classless," Sophia sneered, her voice loud enough to draw attention from nearby shoppers. My fingers curled around the mannequin’s waist, gripping it to keep myself from shaking. The boutique was packed, and now, thanks to her, I had become the center of attention.Kenneth stood beside her, looking amused, his arms crossed over his chest. His expensive watch gleamed under the store lights.I wanted to tell her to shut up, to wipe that smug look off her face, but I knew the rules. Customers were always right. So, I stayed silent.Sophia smirked, taking my silence as weakness. "Honestly, Kenneth, it’s shocking that you ever dated her. What did you even see in her?"Kenneth chuckled. "A temporary distraction."A sharp pain stabbed at my chest, but I refused to show it.A murmur spread through the store as other customers watched, whispering behind their hands. I could feel their eyes on me—some sympathetic, others entertained.Sophia leaned in, her vo

The Girl from the Railway Station, I Continued"Oh," his deep voice came through, smooth but indifferent. "I thought you weren’t going to call."I swallowed hard, gripping the phone tightly. "I’m willing to be your bride for one year."Silence.There was a brief pause, and for a moment, I thought he had hung up. Then, his reply came, calm and collected."Okay."That was it. No questions, no hesitation."Let's meet at a café," he added before the call disconnected.I sat frozen for a moment before shaking myself out of it. This was happening. I flagged down a cab and arrived at the nearest café within minutes.Josh was already there. He sat in a private corner, legs crossed, one arm resting lazily on the table. His gaze was cold, unreadable.I slid into the seat across from him."Being my bride isn’t easy," he began, voice firm. "But you will be richly paid on a weekly basis, and all your expenses will be covered by me."I listened silently as he continued."You will attend family gath

My fingers trembled as I scrolled through the article, the words carving into me like a knife."A young woman was caught attempting to steal an expensive wedding gown at Tarren’s Mall, owned by the prestigious Williams family. The suspect, identity unknown, was publicly confronted by Sophia Montgomery and her fiancé, Kenneth Williams. Witnesses claim the woman was desperate to obtain a luxurious dress beyond her means. Security was called in to remove her from the premises…”Below it was a photo of me, kneeling on the ground, my face streaked with tears, surrounded by security guards. My heart pounded so hard I thought it might burst out of my chest.I felt my stomach drop.I read it again. Then again. The bile rose in my throat, hot and bitter. They had done it again.Kenneth. Sophia. They had set me up, just like before.A shaky breath left my lips as I clenched my phone, my nails digging into my palm. I should have known this wasn’t over. Sophia’s lips curled into a mocking smirk as she folded her arms. “She’s a thief,” she repeated, her voice dripping with amusement. “Her headlines are all over the news.”I stood still, my nails pressing into my palms. The humiliation from earlier still clung to me like a second skin, but I refused to let it show. That was exactly what she wanted, she wants to see me crumble.Josh, beside me, let out a short laugh, stepping forward with ease, as if this entire confrontation was nothing more than a mild inconvenience. “What if there’s nothing like that?” His tone was calm, but there was an edge to it—one that sent a ripple of unease through the room.Sophia raised a brow, her confidence unshaken. “Then I’ll lick her foot.” Her voice was loud enough for everyone to hear, the mockery behind it making my stomach twist.Josh’s smirk deepened. “I’d love to see that.”Sophia let out an impatient sigh before pulling out her phone. With a confident flick of her fingers, she tapped on the scree

A heavy silence filled the room. My skin prickled with the weight of every gaze, every hushed whisper swirling around me.Josh’s words still hung in the air."I never knew the Montgomerys go back on their word."Sophia’s grip on Kenneth’s arm tightened. Her fake sobs had stopped. Her performance had failed. The pity she had tried to wring out of the crowd had turned into suspicion. Whispers crept through the room, each one sharper than the last."She’s lying.""She was so confident a moment ago.""If she’s pregnant, why is she acting this way?"I stood there, my heart steady. For once, I wasn’t the one breaking. It was strange—watching Sophia squirm, watching her confidence crack. And it wasn’t just me who noticed.Josh smirked, taking a lazy step forward, hands in his pockets like he had all the time in the world. “So?” His voice was casual, almost teasing. “Are you going to prove that the Montgomery name means nothing?”Sophia’s head snapped up, her nostrils flaring. Josh blinked at me, as if he hadn’t heard me right. Then, his expression shifted—confusion, then disbelief, then something else entirely."You want me to get you a what?"I wanted the ground to swallow me whole. "A tampon," I repeated, my voice barely above a whisper.Josh exhaled, running a hand through his hair like I had just asked him to rob a bank. He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, staring at me like I had completely derailed his night.“I don’t—” He shook his head, rubbing his temples. “Where am I supposed to get that?”I folded my arms, shifting uncomfortably. "I don’t know. A store? A housekeeper?"Josh let out a short, humorless laugh. “Right. So, you want me to march through my father’s mansion in the middle of the night and ask a maid for that?"I scowled. "Well, unless you have a better idea, yes."Josh groaned, tilting his head back against the couch. He looked completely defeated. This was Josh William—always in control. And yet, one small request had h

I heard his question, but I didn’t turn around. Instead, I faced the dressing mirror, pretending to be too focused on blow-drying my hair. The heat brushed against my scalp, but it couldn’t melt the tension in my chest. Josh was watching me from the bed, waiting. I sighed, gripping the brush a little tighter. My heart felt heavy, like something was pressing down on it, making it hard to breathe. “I’ve known Kenneth since high school,” I said, my voice quieter than I intended. “Back then, he was different.” Josh didn’t say anything, so I kept going. “He never let a hand touch me,” I continued, staring at my reflection. “We did everything together. He’d wait for me after class, we’d share my lunch—he always said my cooking was better than the cafeteria food.” A small, humorless smile tugged at my lips. “We both wanted to be designers. That was our dream.” I let out a breath, setting the dryer down. My hair was dry now, but my thoughts were still tangled. “I did a lot for hi

Josh dodged Kenneth’s punch effortlessly, grabbing his arm and twisting it behind his back. Kenneth let out a sharp gasp, his knees hitting the floor as pain wrenched through his shoulder. His face twisted in anger, but he was helpless in Josh’s grip. “Kenneth!” His mother’s panicked scream cut through the room. She turned to her husband, eyes wild with fury. “Control your son, Josh! He wants to kill Kenneth out of jealousy!” Josh father sat still, his face unreadable. The tension in the room crackled like a live wire, but Josh didn’t let go. Instead, he shoved Kenneth forward. Kenneth hit the floor hard, his breath coming out in a harsh grunt as he clutched his wrist. Josh stood over him, unmoved. “You will never be a match for me,” he said, his voice cold. Kenneth’s jaw tightened as he pushed himself up, rage burning in his eyes. But the humiliation sat heavy on his shoulders. No words, no threats could erase the fact that in front of everyone, Josh had put him in his place.

  • BITTER-SWEET REVENGE   CHAPTER 38: PLAYING EACH OTHER

Kenneth and Sophia were standing there at the doorway. My stomach twisted in that all-too-familiar way—the one I thought I had outgrown. But no—here came another trouble. I sighed in frustration.Josh looked at them and then turned sharply to the staff. “Does anyone come in here now without my permission?”The woman froze like a deer in headlights. Before she could reply, Kenneth strode in with that effortless arrogance he wore like cologne.“Easy, bro,” he said, grinning. “Didn’t realize you were guarding the door like a bouncer now.”Josh’s nostrils flared. “Then maybe you should start realizing a lot more.”Kenneth glanced around, hands in his pockets, acting like everything Josh said was trash.I stayed where I was—halfway between stepping out and staying hidden. My breath caught in my throat. Not out of fear. Not even sadness. Just… frustration.Sophia was silent, her eyes flitting across the room like she was taking mental notes.Josh turned back to Kenneth, eyes sharp. “What ar

  • BITTER-SWEET REVENGE   CHAPTER 37: TASHA

The woman standing in the doorway is strikingly beautiful, with a well-sculpted face that looks like it belongs in a magazine. Every angle of her features is perfectly balanced—sharp cheekbones, full lips, and eyes that seem to flicker with something just beneath the surface. Her dark hair is pulled back in a neat yet effortlessly messy bun, and she wears a simple outfit that looks expensive in the way only truly high-end clothing can. It’s casual, yet she carries it with a quiet confidence that makes it seem like she’s the one who owns this place, not the other way around. She stood on the doorway for a while, almost like someone who doesn't need an invitation to step into the room, but she still waited for one—from Josh—before she could fully come inside. From where she stood, she took a moment to glance around, her gaze moving from person to person, before looking back at Josh. I watch his body freeze, his eyes going wide for the briefest second, and then he covers it, quickly scho

  • BITTER-SWEET REVENGE   CHAPTER 36: DREAM

I dragged myself into bed like a ghost moving through her own skin.Josh’s phone call didn’t matter. At least, that’s what I told myself. Over and over. It was none of my business. We weren’t that kind of couple. We weren’t even a real couple. And yet…My chest tightened.I wasn’t supposed to be involved. I wasn’t supposed to feel this... close. This tangled. This curious. But I was.Too curious. Too attached. It was stupid.I curled up on one side of the bed, staring into the shadows, his words from earlier echoing in my mind—the part about his childhood. His father. The silence in his tone. That tight edge that only comes from carrying years of hurt and pretending it never mattered. He must have been so lonely, I thought.Something in me ached at the idea. Josh always looked so composed—like nothing could shake him—but there were cracks. If you paid close enough attention, you’d see them. And now I couldn’t unsee them.I turned again, burying my face into the pillow. His father's wa

  • BITTER-SWEET REVENGE   CHAPTER 35: WHO WAS IT

I tried to form the words, to say something—anything. But my mouth felt dry, like it had been drained of all moisture. The tension was suffocating, my heart racing as my mind scrambled for something to hold onto."Yes, I’m fine," I finally managed to croak out, the words barely more than a whisper. I forced a smile that didn’t reach my eyes, praying he wouldn’t notice the storm raging inside me.But of course, he noticed. His gaze, once directed at the TV, snapped to me like a hawk zeroing in on its prey. The shift in his attention was instant, piercing. Josh stood up slowly, his movements deliberate as he strolled toward me. Each step felt like a drumbeat pounding in my chest. I couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe. My body froze, locked in place as if my feet were nailed to the floor. Before I knew it, he was standing in front of me—just inches away, close enough that I could feel the heat radiating from him. The space between us seemed to shrink, suffocating me with his presence. I inst

  • BITTER-SWEET REVENGE   CHAPTER 34: SINFUL ACT

The phone was still pressed to my ear when Josh’s father said coldly, “I think I’ve given you enough time to think.”His words hung heavy in the air, slicing through the silence of the kitchen like a blade. I clutched the phone tighter, my fingers trembling as if the device itself had turned into ice. My heart thudded against my ribs, each beat loud enough to drown out the soft hum of the refrigerator.I swallowed hard, the lump in my throat nearly choking me.“I—” My voice cracked, and I hated it. I hated how weak I sounded. “I love him.” It came out more like a whisper, fragile and scared. There was a pause. A heartbeat. Then that same cold voice, sharper this time: “That’s irrelevant. You knew what this was. You’ve had enough fun. Now it ends.”I could feel the sting in his words. Like venom. Why was this man always on my neck? Was it a crime to go to college? To fall in love and be played by his so-called son Kenneth? To exist in a world where I had to work twice as hard for half

  • BITTER-SWEET REVENGE   CHAPTER 33: MISTAKE

His hands were fire on my skin—rough, claiming, unrelenting. One moment I was breathing, the next, I was gasping, pressed beneath him like he was trying to fuse our bodies into one."You're mine now..." Josh growled against my neck, his voice a low thunder that vibrated deep in my core. His breath was hot, his lips trailing down to my collarbone, where he bit and kissed in the same breath—possessive, primal.I moaned, helpless to the way his body commanded mine. Every thrust was a declaration, a claim that made my legs shake, my fingers claw into his back. He was a storm, crashing into me with raw need. And God, I loved the way he broke me apart. My body arched, meeting every powerful movement, every deep stroke that pushed me higher. He kissed me like he was starving, his lips devouring mine until I couldn’t tell where I ended and he began. His tongue tangled with mine, as if he needed to taste every sound I made.“Say it,” he murmured into my mouth, hips slamming forward. “Say you

  • BITTER-SWEET REVENGE   CHAPTER 32: SO WET

The words alone sent a thrill straight to the deepest part of me. My cheeks flushed—not just with shyness, but with a desperate kind of arousal I couldn’t hide. My body betrayed me, arching up toward him like it was begging for more.Josh hovered above me, his eyes dark and burning with desire. He wasn’t rushing. No—he wanted to savor me. His gaze traced every inch of my skin, and I felt completely exposed... worshipped. It made me squirm, but I didn’t want him to stop. I needed him to see me. To crave me.“You’re so damn beautiful when you tremble for me,” he murmured, voice husky against my ear. The tip of his tongue flicked my earlobe, and I shivered, breath catching. “I want to see that again. Again and again.”My fingers curled into the sheets as his hand drifted slowly down my side, brushing my heated skin with torturous precision. He studied my reactions, every gasp and every stuttered breath like a reward. And God, I wanted to give him more. His lips found the curve of my neck

  • BITTER-SWEET REVENGE   CHAPTER 31: YOU TASTE LIKE HONEY

“You won’t regret it,” I whisper—but the second the words leave my lips, Josh is on me.His mouth crashes against mine again, his lips were hot, hungry, desperate. His kiss steals the air from my lungs, and I give in, melting under him. His hands are everywhere—rough, demanding, sliding under my dress.I gasp when his fingers graze my skin, the heat of his touch sending wild shivers down my spine. He grabs my thighs, lifts me like I weigh nothing, and I wrap my legs around his waist. I can feel him. Hard. Needing. Just like me.He walks to his room direction with his lips still on mine, he kicks the door open. It slams behind us.“Josh…” I moan, not even sure if I’m begging or warning him to slow down. But he didn't stop. He growls low in his throat, throwing me onto the bed like I’m his long waited food, like he’s been starving for me. I land on the soft sheets with a gasp, heart pounding.I’ve never seen his room before… and now I’m laid in the middle of it.The sheets are soft bene

As soon as Josh ends the call with Kenneth, I desperately try to explain myself. “Josh, I thought we talked about this. I wasn’t with Kenneth; I actually—”But before I can finish, he cuts me off coldly. “No need to explain, Ivanna.”His voice is like ice, sending a sharp chill down my spine.Undeterred, I lean closer, my hands instinctively clasping his arm. “Josh, it was just a school hangout.”A dry, humorless chuckle escapes his lips as he finally turns to look at me. The amusement in his eyes isn’t warm—it’s cruel.“Before you left, I received a text from Kenneth stating my fiancée would be in his bed any moment now.”My heart feels heavy and sinks. I stop breathing for a second. I feel like someone is pushing a big weight onto my chest. My face turns red—not from guilt, but from frustration. “And you believed him?”Josh stares at me in silence, his jaw tight, his shoulders squared, as if bracing for impact. The silence between us is uncomfortable. It feels like a big storm is ab
