“Let’s have breakfast together.” Alex straightened up and approached me. “I don’t like when you starve yourself because of work.” On his face was no emotion, but his eyes—they carried it all as they softened.

A soft furrow pulled my brows as my lips parted, but before a sound rolled out of my lips, he interrupted. “If you are not okay with that, just tell me what you want, and I’ll get it for you.” Alex's expression sank, his lips curling downward.

How I wanted to turn him down and protest. I was still struggling with the warmth he left in me that day. Wherever he touched always seemed to burn for days with no hope of setting me free. Like he had engraved himself on me.

But that expression on his face was so soft and needy. How could I say no?
